Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Lieutenant Glenn Harold Hicks

A hero was here but now he is gone,
his brave warm spirit carries on.
We felt so sad to hear he fell,
his badge he wore so proud and well.
His works reached out to so many lives,
we struggled hard to understand why.
With a folded flag and taps final call,
a mournful salute snapped from us all.
Yet now he stands a higher post,
he is Heaven's guard, we proudly boast.
With St. Michael, he patrol's Heaven's street,
God's brave soldier still walks his beat.

A day don't go by that I don't think of Glenn, and wish he were here to talk to and to tell him how much I love him. My heart still hurts from the pain of missing him, wishing I could have been with him on his last day and to have been able to tell him goodbye and I love you. I will never forget you Brother. It's been 11 years but it seems as if it was just yesterday. Remembering my Brother and Hero Glenn H Hicks EOW 02/20/2003.

Policeman's 23rd Psalm

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind.

He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God,"
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name's sake He keeps me whole.

When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.

He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life's enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, "Well done...,"
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.

THE ONE THAT I ADORED

My dearest “BIG” brother GLENN

There are some things that I must say,
That I didn't get to tell you,
As you left my world that day.

I thank you for the love you gave,
for the times that we have shared,
for all the times you've comforted me,
and when you showed me that you cared.

The times when you protected me,
the times when you would call,
for picking me up when I was down,
and never letting me fall.

You grew into a special man,
a loyal and true friend,
and touched the lives of many,
until the very end.

Our world was very fortunate,
to have you standing by,
to protect, no matter what it took,
to lay your life on the line, and die.

Forever I shall be so proud,
of what you did that day, for
protecting and serving
and for giving your all,
in the most courageous way.

My memories I shall cherish,
I wish there were even more,
of you my dearest brother,
the one that I ADORED

December hasn't changed
This town looks the same
They still light that tree in the city square
There's red, white, and green shining everywhere
And I wish you were here
And I wonder

Is the snow falling down on the streets of gold
Are the mansions all covered in white
Are you singing with angels "Silent Night"
I wonder what Christmas in heaven is like

There's a little manger scene
Down on Third and Main
I must have walked right by it a thousand times
But I see it now in a different light
'Cause I know you are there
And I wonder

Are you kneeling with shepherds before him now
Can you reach out and touch his face
Are you part of that glorious Holy night
I wonder what Christmas in Heaven is like

Is the snow falling down on the streets of gold?
Are the mansions all covered in white?
Are you singing with angels "Silent Night"
I wonder what Christmas in Heaven is like

As I sit here, in uniform, typing a report, I just cannot help but to shed a tear for this officer, his family and the unfortunate situation. It's been years since it happened, but it doesn't cheapen or reduce its impact.

He died in service to his community and fellow man. I'm sure his family has honored his sacrifice as he duly deserved, and I can only hope he has a special place in heaven...where he belongs. A moment of silence and a silent prayer to all who have fallen.

Well today Dad went on a call and had to chase a boy and they were running in a tree patch and another officer hollered at dad and said what other officers are with you i see two bigger men with you. Dad said no one and the other officer said yes look they are beside you and there was no one there. I know it was you beside daddy to day and you kept him safe and jesus was right there too! Gosh I miss you so much and sometimes i wish things would have been different but if you wasn't there to be daddys guardian angel today i don't know what would have happened! I miss you and love you lots!

MY ANGEL IN BLUE

As the sun rises to greet a new day,
I pray Lord you will show me the way.

To live life with happiness and glee.
And remember the love that's inside of me.

The love that he shared with his first born son,
and the happiness and pride he gave to him.

Three young grandchildren he had and left behind.
As a hero he died; He was one of a kind.

It's true that everyone will die someday.
But why did he have to die that way?

First time in his uniform, I will not forget.
The day he vowed to serve and protect.

My dear Lord, this is what I beg of you.
Please watch over my Angel in Blue.

"GRANDPA"
HE WAS A MAN WHO LOVED US FROM THE BOTTOM OF HIS HEART
WE NEVER DREAMED SO SOON THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PART
DEATH CAME KNOCKING ON HIS FRONT DOOR
HE COULD HAVE HAD SO MUCH IN LIFE BUT HE NEVER WANTED MORE

HE LOVED US ALL EACH AND EVERY DAY
HE LOVED US NO MATTER WHAT OUR ODD WAY
HIS ARMS OPENED UP AND HIS LOVE SPREAD WIDE
HE WAS ALWAYS THERE TO STAND BY OUR SIDE

THINK OF HOW HE MADE YOU LAUGH AND HOW HE MADE YOU SMILE
THINK OF HOW HE WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO GO THAT EXTRA MILE
THINK OF HIM WHEN YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES AND DREAM
REMEMBERING HE IS STILL ON OUR SIDE AND ON OUR TEAM

PLEASE DON'T BE SAD, WIPE AWAY THOSE TEARS
THINK OF HOW HAPPY HE MADE US ALL THROUGH THE YEARS
PRAY TO HIM RIGHT NOW AND KNOW THAT HE CAN HEAR
FEEL BETTER WHEN YOU KNOW THAT HE WILL ALWAYS BE SO NEAR

AS TIME GOES ON AND WE WATCH THE DAYS PASS
OUR LOVE FOR HIM WILL ALWAYS LAST
SO NOW WE SAY GOOD-BYE TO A MAN THAT MEANT SO MUCH
BUT WE'LL NEVER FORGET HOW OUR LIVES HE COULD ALWAYS TOUCH

"A Part of America Died"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.

I love you Paw
