Reflections for Police Officer Eric Eugene DeWit

My thoughts are with your loved ones as this 4th anniversary arrives. I know they have thought of you ever hour of every day during the past 4 years and will continue to do so and the silent tears of love will continue to flow from their broken hearts. I know the pain your mother has in her heart for there is no great loss than to lose a child. Wrap your wings around your loved ones and help them with their grief. Continue to keep watch over them and thos still out on patrol guarding over the Thin BLue Line. You will never be forgotten.

Dear Eric,
It has been almost 4 years since you've been gone. Your Uncle Neil joined you last year but I'm sure you know that. Your Mom gives Kylie, your wonderful daughter, a photo book with pictures of you and memories from when you were her age every year. She does that so Kylie will know her Daddy. Your Mom and Dad and Brothers will miss you all of their lives. They are a family to be proud of but you know that already. We have had too much sorrow in our lives, Eric, and losing you is still something that is very hard to accept. Your picture rides with me in my car along with Neil's and somehow you both give me the courage to go on with living. Your daughter is the joy of our lives and I know you watch over her and all of your family.
Love,
Aunt Candy

Dear Son,

Happy 27th Birthday, Son. It seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating your 23rd birthday with you. It is still very difficult to comprehend that you are physically gone, but know that you are forever in our hearts and thoughts every minute of every day. The pain of losing you is, even now, unbearable. We love you, Big E.

I JUST WANTED TO EXTEND MY CONDOLENCES TO OFFICER ERIC DEWIT'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I DID NOT PERSONALLY MEET ERIC, BUT DO WORK IN THE BORDERING SOUTH TOWN AND OFTEN THINK OF HIM WHEN I PASS OUR POLICE STATION. REST IN PEACE AND GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY AND CO-WORKERS.

Surfing on the internet, I read this article concerning the tragic accident of officer Dewit, with whom I share the same name. Taken by the sincere family grievances I wish to leave a message of hope and faith to the family of Eric.

It has been 3 1/2 years since your tour of duty ended and I know the broken hearts left behind think of you each and every day. Your loved ones will never let you be forgotten and neither will the Blue Family. I'm sure law enforcement was a dream of yours and no one can keep others from achieving their dreams. Keep watch over your loved ones, wrap your wings around them and protect them from harm and help them with their grief. I know their pain, especially parents as we are not suppose to outlive our children. We would trade places with our children in a heart beat if we could bring you back to be with your loved ones. You are a true hero and heroes never die.

Officer Dewit you were the featured officer when I logged on. Your family especially your mother are in my prayers. This path of grief is a hard one. You left for your new beat just months before my son joined you.

I recently found out about Officer Eric DeWit, having cooresponded with his mother, Dariel Purcell DeWit, who was a former classmate of mine at St. Catherine of Genoa in Chicago (1967). I want to extend my deep sadness and condolences to Dariel and her extended family, and to the Matteson Il. Police Department on the passing of its Officer. I am a retired police officer, but believe once a police officer, you are always a police officer. Officer Dewit is now serving the Lord as one of his "soldiers" in heaven, and a member of heaven's FOP. May God have mercy on his soul, and grant him eternal peace.

Mrs. Dariel DeWit,

I would like to thank you for your hearthfelt message, left on Eric Solorio's page.

Please, let me honor your son by allowing me to leave a message on his page. I'm shedding tears at the moment because Eric Solorio was a friend I originally met back in elementary school. Your message and the loss you experienced just three years ago has bonded US together as family.

I will remember your son when I think of Eric. A promise to you: I will continue the work of your son and my friend.

Dear Son,
Yesterday was your 26th birthday. Although you have been gone almost three years, the pain is still unbearable. We miss you terribly. Demi is doing a wonderful job of raising your beautiful daughter, Kylie, as I'm sure you know. You would be so proud of her. Happy Birthday, Son.

You were hilighted on the website
today so I stopped by and read all
the reflections. I was given a 2005
COPS calendar and there you were
on Feb. 17th. So, you have not been
forgotten and according to these
reflections, it's easy to see why. You
were just on the threshold of realizing your dreams, young career,
young wife, young son. Life is so
unfair and my heart goes out to your
sweet family, your co-workers and all
those who loved you. I'm reaching
thru my computer to give you a BIG
HUG!

I was a neighbor of the DeWit family's for years when we lived in Flossmoor. Though I never got to know Eric as an adult, it does not surprise me to learn he went on to serve his community. He always had a good heart and a big smile. I was saddened to hear of his death and my thoughts are with his family.

Eric, I watch as Kylie grows up - she is so beautiful! I didn't know you long or well but I would have as time passed and I regret not getting that opportunity. I am learning about you every day from your Mom & Dad, Demi and your brothers. They tell stories about you and I listen and add their stories to my own memories of you. Slowly I am beginning to see what a wonderful young man you are. Know that your Uncle Neil and I do all we can to help your family and that we will always be there for them. I believe you watch over all of us and smile, laugh and weep with us as well. We will remember you always - You made a difference to so many people!

I just found this web site and cannot believe all of the reflections about Eric, from people who knew him and strangers. I am an uncle of Eric's. All of us miss him greatly. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a constant smile. Law enforcement was his passion, from the early teens. I know he is watching over his wife and daughter.

My husband went through academy with Eric and became very close friends. They talked frequently after graduation, sharing stories from the street. I remember his wedding day and the day he called to tell us about Kylie. Over a year later, we still think of Eric nearly every day, sometimes with tears but more often with smiles. He was such a great guy and we miss him more than we can explain. We are proud to have called him friend.

Eric, I know that you are watching over all of us, especially your brothers and sisters in blue. Bring them home safe. We miss you!

Reality still has yet to sink in that you're gone. It has been a little over a year that we sat in chairs at the police academy together. It still feels like yesterday........You are missed as well as loved........ I know that your spirt watches over us all.
