Reflections for Trooper Michael Todd Blanton

Rest easy, Brother, you are not forgotten.

Monroe Co. Sheriff Dept. Bloomington, In.l

January 29, 2004

To Dana
I can only imagine the pain you are going through. I hope you will take comfort in knowing that Mike’s love for you will live on forever. You and your son will be in my prayers and I promise that Mike’s memory and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

To Spencer
I hope some day you will understand that your father died protecting the freedoms most people take for granted. As you grow up, never question your father's love for you. He died doing his very best to make the world you will grow up in a better, safer place.

To my brothers and sisters of the Virginia State Police
My heart goes out to all of you. Go forward with the knowledge that you are filling in the gap of the Thin Blue Line left by Mike’s death. I know you will carry on the mission because, like Mike, you know how important your role is in keeping our communities safe.

Sergeant

It is because of you and other officers like you that I enjoy arresting drivers under the influence.

Rest In Peace, My Brother

September 29, 2003

God bless the family of one of Virginia's Sons and Heros.

You will be in our thoughts daily.

Trooper
VSP

Dear Mike,

We miss you so. It has been over 6 months since you left us and there is not a day that goes by that I dont think of you and your rosey cheeks. You made an impact on me from the first time we met, with your welcoming smile and firm hand shake.

Sometimes I wonder if this career is really worth it. Is it worth putting your life on the line? Yes it is. For those of us who are brave enough to go out and fight the fight, god needs us there and the people need us. You saved a life the night you went to heaven. That is one DUI that didnt kill and innocent citizen. You sacrificed your life to save others and brother you will never be forgotten.

Mike, I talk to you often, especially when I am working and sometimes I feel as if you are riding along with me! God, I wish you were. I know you are looking over us like a guardian angel everyday when we mark 10-41. I am sure you are laughing as we poke fun at one another and try to make the shift go by faster and that you are fearful for us when we stop a car at 3 am. When I am doing FST's on a DUI stop....I know you are there, I feel your presence! The site on Gaskins road has been visted by many, both officers and citizens, noone has forgotten you and we never will.

I miss you Mike!

Trooper

God Speed brother...May you rest in peace. You will not be forgotten.

Trooper
New York State Police

I'm sorry Michael....There he was fleeing the scene of the accident, not listening to my commands, I under the assumption he was a just another DUI....I'm sorry, I didn't know. I caught him, and time stood still as I listened to the tragedy play out over the radio. I shake as I write this Michael remembering you and that night like it was last night. I pray for you and your family and will never forget either. We were brother soldiers, fighting our battles on the same streets together. I pass that spot every day and remember you. God Speed Michael, and God Bless your family and friends.

"Tha authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgement on themselves...
Do you want to be free from the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you...But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, and agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer..."

His day will come Michael, and God will be there with you by his side to make it right.

We will see each other again!

Dana
I think of you and Spencer often. I know your pain first hand.
I wish I could make everything alright for all of us. We have to remind ourselves that we are not alone in our grief.
I pray André and Michael are at peace. Even through their lives here were way too short, they made a positive impact on some many. We were blessed to have them in our lives.
I will continue to pray for your family.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

Here it is again, another day, month, year. It seems it will never stop. My heart and prayers to the wife and son of Trooper Michael Todd Blanton and also his police family. I know how hard this is for all of you, we as a department were dealt these feelings on April 24, 2002 we lost our beloved Captain. It will take a very long time to heal, but you will go on with life. I never knew that hurt could be this real, from someone other than a family member. I am old, been in police work for almost 20 years, its all I know but losing my captain took a part of my heart from me, and it will from you also. Its like we work with the best, and the best is what is taken. I live in Tx. but I am from Roanoke area. Va. is also my home. And, every officer that is taken from us, we will never forget. I am so proud of you Trooper Blanton.

Michael, our visits were way too short and far too infrequent. I only wish the time could be caught up. Yet, life continues.

I'm sure by now the world knows what values you upheld as a Virginia State Trooper, they're the characteristics that made me especially proud to call you my cousin. For those who did not know you, they may ask any of your brothers at the Virginia State Police, or adjacent agencies. And once informed of your stature, they will all be a step ahead in the good fight if they embody just one of your values of excellence.

You will be remembered as a strong, fair, family loving man who respected God and all his creations. For this I am blessed to have known you. In this, I also pray all of your family at home there in Virginia can take comfort in -- that you are now with our Lord Almighty.

And to those who carry on your service with diligence, pride, and professionalism, our endebted gratitude! Thank you for being there at all times, at all costs, and at all risks. May Michael's efforts continue to shine through your daily duties and detail. Let us not forget his attention to his intentions.

Dana, God continue to Bless and keep you and Spencer. Lynn and Mark, be comforted by your knowledge Michael is safely "Home."
To Michael's fellow Troopers: God Speed and all the Lord's blessings for your safety as you continue your work and cope with your losses.

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen.
