Reflections for Trooper Michael Todd Blanton

Mike,
God Bless you and thank you for your service. The example you set for me as my FTO was unforgettable. You were the sharpest Trooper I have ever met.

Hey Mike,

Didnt have the honor of knowing you personally but all I ever heard about you were good things. Everytime your name is mentioned all I hear is that you were hell on a drunk driver. You stood on the thin blue line between order and chaos and never backed down. Im sure you are standing tall with the badge on your chest and a gun on your hip protecting the gates of heaven. Rest in peace brother, a job well done...

Mike,

Hey bro, it seems like yesterday we were attending the VSP 97th basic academy (1998). I left VSP almost one year prior to your death and became a police officer in Orange, CA where I grew up. Its pretty crazy out here being a police officer to say the least, but hey isn't that what our job is all about? There have been so many times that I have questioned why I continue to do this job, but all I have to do is think about the ultimate sacrafice you made. So everyday I keep pushing forward bro to do the best that I can to protect those I serve. I will never forget you bro...never! God Bless your family and all those you left behind.

Mike,

Noticed that a South Bend, Indiana officer was shot and killed today and of course, it got me thinking of you. I was thinking of you just a few months ago on the anniversary of your death. I miss you Mike. I miss talking to you. Please know that you are never forgotten brother.

Thank you for your sacrifice. And thank you for your dedication to getting drunk drivers off of our roads. You once arrested a friend of mine for DUI and got her off of the road for awhile at least - thank you. I called the State Patrol office the night she was arrested and left a message thanking you then too. In the 40 plus years she drank and drove no one else had the courage to tell her it was wrong. You did. You saved untold lives with your dedication to keeping drunks off the roads. I am so sorry you lost your life in trying to keep yet another DUI off the road too. Thank you. Thank you.

Mike-

I was thinking about you today. I can't believe that I am here writing this message over a computer and not being able to just pick up the tx and call you. It was a priviledge to work with you in the USAF. I will never forget our times conducting the tours of Cheyenne Mountain in the Springs. Beth and I will never forget when you and Dana took us to the Colorado Springs zoo that evening during the holidays. I look at that picture someone took of us often. I will never forget the day that you were in the office with me and you got the call that little Spencer was coming....you were so calm, and so EXCITED. I remember when you talked me into buying a 1995 Chevy Cavalier because you liked yours so much.....I am so sorry that I was unable to make it to your funeral. It was like everything was against me trying to get there. I know that Todd was there for both him and I. I would have very much liked for us 3 to be together one last time. I miss you, and someday I will see you again, when God tells me it's time to come home. Until then, I will continue to do the job that Todd, you, and I love. The same job that you made the ultimate, the supreme sacrifice for. THANKS Mike. I love you brother.

Two years have passed since that horrible evening and I think about you often. Being back in Colorado Springs revives fond memories of our rides back and forth to work and all the laughter we shared during those years. I know you are watching over us and keeping us out of harm's way. I pray for your family and Dana and Spenser and hope they have found peace without you even though that void will never be filled. You are not forgotten...We miss you.

You are remembered today and everyday.
Thank you for your service.

Thank you Trooper Blanton. You once pulled over and arrested a friend of mine for DUI and never backed down from pursuing conviction - which you got. Such courage and devotion to duty is rare. I cannot tell you how much your actions meant to me and to others who had tried for years to "wake her up" to what she was doing to herself and those around her.

I'm sorry you had to pay the ultimate price for your devotion, but I'm inspired that you did it in an attempt to get yet another drunk driver off of the road. Thank you for your sacrifice.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Tonight, January 29, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Trooper Michael Todd Blanton who died in the line of duty on this date one year ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Trooper Blanton's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

It's been a year, it's hard to believe. You're still on top of all of our minds and hearts. Your "Brothers in Blue" as well as many others miss you! I think back to the night after your accident, it was rainy and cold. This evening it will be different, it snowed and as the sunlight hits the hill this evening it will glisten so bright. An 88 year old stranger once told me, "The glory of friendship is found in the inspiration that comes when we discover that someone else believes in us and is willing to trust us. Life is truly a gift of Love and we receive it best and live it best by holding it with open hearts and hands." We miss you and those rosey cheeks Mike!!
