JoAnne, I remember the tragic night as if were yesterday. I also remember we spoke a few days prior to that and you were the same professional Cop with a great sense of humor...

Before I left Missouri in 2003 I visited BlackJack park. There was a ray of sunlight shining on one particular bench so I decided to sit there. Out of 20 or so benches the one I choose was the one dedicated to you. You got me again. RIP

JoAnn, it has been seventeen years since we lost you. As a fellow officer I am very proud of you and what you stood for. As a family member the hurt inside me remains.

You were a member of a great department who stood by the side of your mom and dad until they were laid to rest next to you.

All my love, prayers and great memories,

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

A poem to reflect a Hero.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow,
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.

I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush,
of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am in the star shine of the night.

I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room,
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing,

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I do not die.

I was a police explorer with the St Louis County police Dept from 1985-1988. I always rode along with JoAnn. I learned many things about law enforcement from JoAnn and I loved riding along with her because she was a great police officer and a great friend to me. I had a daughter on Oct 30, 1993 and I named her JoAnn after my close friend!!

We all miss you JoAnn and are always thinking about you in our prayers!

To the memory of Officer Liscombe---

~~~Touch The Sky --- Kiss The Sun~~~
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
Let me see you smile…
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
Soar up high just for a while.
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
Let your soul be free…
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
Love someone unconditionally.
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
Let me take your hand…
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
In time you’ll understand.
