You will NEVER be forgotten...

Justice has been served for the unfortunate event that occured to you and your family. Once again, your best friends Speight and Stauffer had your back. They stood strong and represented true friendship and integrity through the re-occuring nightmare. Your co-workers and other friends who were there that night also showed bravey and professionalism while defending you and their actions. I know you guided each and everyone of them on the path to make sure justice was served. You will not be forgotten and this is another step forward for those healing on a daily basis.

There are no words to describe the loss of Deputy George Selby. You have moved on Brother, You are now in a better place at God's side. I will miss you my friend. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office and Memphis Police Department will forever be changed. Your family is remebered in our prayers. I thank you for the service you gave your life for and I feel that I am a better man and officer just because I knew you. I often visit this website after the death of two dear friends from the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003). Unfortunately, I just had to add the name of another friend. Jeffery Hewitt, Buncombe County (NC) Sheriff's Department, E.O.W. April 4, 2004.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Deputy Selby. I am deeply saddened to see the death of another very young man. From the reflections written about Deputy Selby, it is obvious that he was a wonderful man and officer. My heart breaks for you.

These are senseless occurrences that continue to happen. Thank you so much to the men and women who continue to serve their communities and this great Nation. God Bless You.

George, I think about you alot like the good times we had in civil and B.R.A.T. units. And I will never forget you sneaking up behind me and my wife going along with it and making me jump out of my skin and seeing you laugh about it til you cried. now we cry missing you. God blessed your family and us with you for a short time but we know you are watching.

though i am not with an agency or anything your memory still lives on and never will it be forgotten. that was one of the coldest decemembers ever. now this is for you and your friends anyone who would like to get intouch with me as the cold lonesome wind blew a group of officers gathered around the flag pole in the middle of the night the officers ranged from rookies to seasoned veterans, each having their own memories of him there were no words spoken as the red and blue lights pierced the darkness. the stinging tears flowed for a fallen friend as all eyes watched old glory being lowered to half-mast. the only sound to be heard was the old flag popping in the wind after a moment of silence the group then fell out one by one and the flashing lights were extinguished as each officer drove slowly into the night. a great man once said that he knew each time a sparrow falls. SO NOW DEAR LORD HEAR OUR CRIES AND FEEL OUR PAIN FOR THIS TIME IT WAS AN EAGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rest in peace, rest now and enjoy the fruits of your labors. May God bless the family and friends for the tragedy that has happened to such a great and giving officer. Any man that assumes the position of the job of law enforcement is surely blessed by god and deserves the highest regards. Rest now, we have the shift from here on out.

Deputy Jeff McCammon
Desoto County Sheriffs Dept.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Tonight, December 4, 2003 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Deputy Sheriff George Monroe Shelby who died on this date one year ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Deputy Selby's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

i miss you so much ! it's been a year now, and it is still so hard !!! i expect to go home for Christmas and see you cooking in the kitchen, telling your silly jokes or how the biggest buck got away on your last hunting trek... not fixing a plate, but rather eating out of the pots and pans, and at the same time trying to get Taylor and Payton to sit at the table and eat. i will forever miss you and will always cherish you...my life will never be complete without you. you were a wonderful brother. i am so proud of you...i hope you heard the words from God, "Well Done"....

Romans 13:4
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

This bible verse was the basis of our work when I was in Narcotics many years ago.

George, words can't express what I feel about your death. I can only assure you that my family will forever be there for Jessica, Taylor and Payton.

Please watch over us and help keep us safe as we continue to do what we too love to do. Your missed my friend but you'll never be forgotten!

George the day I received the call about you getting killed it hit me like aton of bricks. It hurt me so bad that I still find myself waking up thinking about you. I still remember the last time I saw you before I left going to Quantico in August. You were standing down stairs in front of Division 9 court room with that devilish grin . Rest my brother I love you my friend.

I'll never forget the cold, rainy night of December 4th. The hallowing feeling of hearing "officer down, shots still being fired on the scene". I raced to get to you Deputy Selby and I didn't even know you. Somehow, somewhere we are connected as brothers in law enforcement but I couldn't get to you quick enough. I'll never forget when I heard that we had lost you George. You are truly a hero in our community and you are truly missed. Watch over us George as we go about our tasks and handle our calls in a manner that is pleasing to you. We are forever here for your family and will see to it that they are provided for. Take care my brother. Sore with the angels, you've done your time in hell. Godspeed, George. In valor there is hope!

Officer R.S. Woolley
Memphis Police Department

I went to the office today and looked up a case for investigation and remembered that it was one that you and I worked on together. I remember your sense of humor, your smile, and all the pictures I have of our team and it makes me miss you all over again. It was my pleasure to work with you. I think of you and our other fallen brothers and sisters everyday. Please keep a lookout for us, we need it. You will NOT be forgotten.

Shelby family and friends, Please know that you will be in my prayers tonight. I too feel your pain, I am dealing with the death of my brother OHP Trooper Chris Van Krevelen who was killed in the line of duty on Thanksgiving Day. To all the officers and co-workers please be careful and know that there aren't enough words to thank you for the job you do. To the family, your loved one paid the ulitmate price for his community, althought we never met I feel I know the kind of man he was, that is something to be proud of. Cherish all your memories and in calm moments reflect on the legacy he has left behind. I can't tell you why but I know God only takes the best. I'm sure my brother and your loved one are together on their new watch and I'm sure were all in their zone. I pray God's comfort in your lifes now and always.
