Reflections for Deputy Sheriff George Monroe Selby

God bless to all the family of Deputy George Selby and a deep thanks to a friend and brother who died serving the public. I knew you in school and I knew you on the job. Now God gets to know you like we did here. Keep the smile, the faith and heart.

To all others who leave messages here.. a good man is sorely missed by all who knew him.

A sweet smile and sweet words. That is how I will remember George. I read in today's paper that George thought of himself as a "Peace officer". What a great man. He will be missed by all of those who knew him.

i had an uncle who was a police officer in jacksonville fl. he to was shot and killed in the line of duty. as he lay in the street, common citizens stole his hat and badge off his person. only when i was old enough, did my mother tell me of the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. my father was a memphis police officer for 33 years, retiring as a captain. he was, and still is, my hero.
my uncle and my father are the reasons i am a deputy sheriff now. i firmly believe that JESUS chooses his warriors here on earth, knowing that WE are the few who can fullfill the duties he has bestowed upon us. george selby gave his life knowing this also. this job is a calling..... and we know the ultimate consequences. yet we strap on our gear and badge every day and go where others cannot, will not. george did, and he has been called home now. george is my hero, as well as every other fallen officer. i did not know george selby on a personal basis, but i will miss him like he was my brother.

to the family of DEPUTY SHERIFF GEORGE SELBY...

i deeply regret your loss. and may god show you a brilliant light in this the darkest of times.

respectfully submitted,

My deepest sympathies go out to George's wife, 2 daughter's, family, fellow officers, and to his extended family at Sky View. I was blessed to have spent some time with George 3 weeks ago and his love for his family and job was so evident. Everyone who knew George knew him for his smile and uplifting personality. You will be missed, but your smile will live on forever in our hearts. May all the other officers carry your memory and help protect them in the line of duty. God bless.

Our children went to the same school. They had the same teacher. We've walked the same ground at one time or another. This morning I was able to see my children off to school. You will never be able to do that again. I wonder how things like this can happen, and go nearly unnoticed. I didn't know you well, but we were both officers in this community, and know what that's like. I can't help but look at my children and think, "There, but by the grace of god, go I".

Rest in peace brother.
