Reflections for Correctional Officer James C. Hesterberg

Jaimie was an inspiration to us all. He was a good man, a good officer, and a good friend. He will be sorely missed by all. Peace be with you and your family....

Officer Hesterberg was my best friend for the last 28 years. I wish his family all the very best with the loss of this beautiful soul. Special thanks to all the officers that have given so freely of their time and energy on behalf of this fallen comrade. Take comfort in knowing that he would do no less for you. God bless you all. All who knew Officer Jamie Hesterberg will remember his thundering laugh, he ready smile, and his easy-going manner. We will miss him greatly in the days to come and we mourn for our fallen brother.

To Debbie and the children, I can only express my sympathies and heartfelt thanks to Jamie for the sacrifices he made in the line of duty.

TO THE FAMILY

When tomorrow starts without me
And I'm not there to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today
While thinking of the many things
We didn't get to say

I know how much you love me
As much as I love you
And each time that you think of me
I know you'll miss me too

But when tomorrow starts without me
Please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand

And said my place was ready
In heaven far above
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love

But when I walked through heaven's gates
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me
From His great golden throne

He said "This is eternity
And all I've promised you"
Today your life on earth is past
But here it starts anew

I promise no tomorrow
For today will always last
And since each day's the same way
There's no longing for the past

So when tomorrow starts without me
Don't think we're far apart
For every time you think of me
I'm right here in your heart

Life in your job was, and is, so dangerous and unpredictable. It is good to know that people, like you, are out there defending all of us. Your service makes me so proud of this country, in that you give so much. You have served in hell, now it's time your reward in heaven. God will meet you with open arms to your new beat on heaven's streets. When we meet again, you will look as professional and proud as when your life was taken so tragically. Rest easy, we'll continue the watch.

Although we live in a large state, our law enforcement family is a rather small one. My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to Officer Hesterberg's family, friends and law enforcement family he leaves behind.

He did a job that was neither glamorous nor easy, yet so desperately needed in this society. There is no way to fill the place he left empty. He will always be remembered in this family as a hero.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Hesterberg and his family and friends, though I did not personally know Ofc Hesterberg I am familiar with the job they do in Alaska, a job that most police departments handle in the lower 48, and a job that does not appeal to most people but needs to be done. Know that your sacrifice will not go unnoticed and we will continue on in your memory.
