Reflections for Officer Joseph Jerome Daniels

TO A FELLOW COMRADE , WHO I MET AT THE BIRMINGHAM POLICE ACADEMY IN DECEMBER OF 1992. WELL MEMORIES ARE HARD TO EXPRESS RIGHT NOW BUT I'LL DO MY BEST. AS I REMEMBER HIM TELLING ME IN THE ACADEMY TO OPEN UP AND FREE MYSELF FROM ALL MY SHYNESS. WHAT A FRIEND , WHO HAD LITTLE FEAR MUCH OF ANYTHING , AND CARED FOR HIS FELLOW MAN WITH ALL HIS HEART. I HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN SOME DAY MY FRIEND BECAUSE I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE BECAUSE YOU KNOW HOW GOOD WE ARE ABOUT FINDING PEOPLE . WELL THANKS TO GOD FOR GIVING OFFICERS LIKE YOU THIS KIND OF PLACE TO GO .

Patrol Officer/Preston Nelson
Homewood Police Department

What bravery! You are what the life is all about. You knew the dangers, and you continued to serve with pride. Your duty above self is personified. You now may reap the great reward of a beat in Heaven. God will face you with open arms, and welcome you into his heavenly place. We will see you again officer, and when we do, you will look as professional, and dedicated to the mission, as the day your duty was ended so senselessly. My prayers are with your survivors. May they be always proud of your accomplishments, and daring to move forward with God in their lives. Rest well, we will continue the watch.

God bless and RIP Officer Daniels. You are a true hero and an example of courage and bravery to us all. To the cowardly S.O.B. that did this, taking away a 4 yr old son's father; may you not only be caught and pay for your crimes, but may you burn in hell for your actions. You took the life of someone who allowed you to be safe and free, safe and free to rob someone else instead of appreciating the freedom and service provided by Police Officers like Joseph Daniels.
To the little boy of Officer Daniels; Your daddy is a hero and don't you forget it. He's sitting next to God now, watching over you and waiting until he will meet with you again. Be strong and never forget.

THE POLICEMAN’S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain’t. Because those of us who carry badges can’t always be a Saint. I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I’ve been violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept many unmanly tears. I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around except to calm their fear. If you’ve a place for me Lord, it needn’t be so grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don’t, I’ll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward now, policeman, you’ve borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven’s streets, you’ve done your time in hell."

When Ofc.Daniels started his day on the 18th, he had no warning about what he would encounter on his off time that evening. It goes to show that the unknown risk that every officer in this country faces each day is tremendous, on or off duty. My heart goes out to Ofc.Daniels family. And to his co-workers, who will be affected greatly by the loss of a fellow brother. Rest in Peace Ofc.Daniels, and please know that you will NEVER be forgotten.
