Uncle Bill,

Remember Michael Knight? You arrested him for me as a practical joke on his 16th B-day. We had such great times together!!

Michael and his wife were killed in a MVA in Italy 3 days ago. Their little boy {3} was with them, had a fractured clavicle but will be ok. Church friends cared for Mochael's son until his wife's parents arrived from the states.

My heart aches for those I love and miss every day. God promised that he would wipe all tears from our eyes in heaven.

We think of you often and miss you always. Thanks for always being there for me.

Love,
April

The night that you gave your all, my husband's shift responded to your call for assistance. Our local officers are some of the best people anyone could have the privilege to know.

That experience has touched the lives of so many people--officers, their families, ordinary citizens. I never had the opportunity to know you, but my husband often talks about what an incredibly wonderful person you were.

Sometimes I wonder how our police officers can possibly cope with the things that they experience in the line of duty. Those people are truly amazing.

Thank you, Leiutenant Jiles, for giving your life for us.

I have not been at the Sheriff's office long. On a daily basis I hear your name repeated. You were a wonderful man. I can tell by the respect and admiration that fellow officers that had for you. I only wish that I would have had the chance to know you.

^&^ The Gaurdian Angel ^&^

As I spread my wings and ready myself to answer the call,
Some I may catch and some may fall,
Taken from Earth and sent on high,
Heaven's gates open wide,
Ready to recieve those mortal angels in blue,
The ones who protected and served me and you,
They so bravely laid their lives on the line,
Now another one has fallen one more time,
I spread my wings to answer the call,
I will take his soul back with me,
He will be delivered from all,
A thousand angels shed a tear,
As one more Gaurdian Angel is added here,
Watching over all of us from above,
And still protecting us with love.

I never knew you. I do know several officers who have left messages and from their words I know that not knowing you is my loss. I also know that you are greatly missed by your department- several times I've heard comments about you just in daily conversation. You are not forgotten.Your family is still held as part of the family. Officers watch over them regularly as if they were their own. You continue to live in the actions of the Officers you touched.I appreciate the part you had in teaching those who protect us.

Hey Billy,
It has been 1 year since Blake was killed. I don't think of him without remembering you too. Going through the anniversary was like living through it again. I know you are right where you want to be, up there with the Father. You still are a role model even now. Haleigh is in 7th grade with Cory. I saw her when I ate lunch with Cory a few weeks ago. She is beautiful. Cory wanted to know about you and I told him you were one of the finest men I had worked with and called friend. I do miss you. It still does not seem real. Put your hand on us when we need protection and a pick me up from the job.

Hey Bubba,

I just wanted to tell you I love you and Im always thinking of you in everything I do. I would give anything to share my experiences with you. At the end of the month Im going to be working with the FBI hostage rescue team. Im so excited about it. Ashley and I are doing great. I always tell her how you two would of gotten along so well. When she ask me how you were, I would say just look at me. I take such pride in people telling me that I look just like my uncle Bill. It gives me such comfort knowing that your up in heaven with Granny and Granddaddy. The family is doing well. Rico should graduate college soon. We are all proud of him. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. I love you Bubba.

We miss you! It's been over three years now and it still seems as if it was yesterday. I think of you and your family all the time and admire Holly for the job she is doing in raising those two beautiful children, Haleigh and Matthew. Please continue to be with us and watch over us as we continue the fight. I know that no matter where I may be or what I may be facing I will never be facing it alone, I always feel that you are right there beside me backing me up just as you did when you were here. I miss you and I will see you again one day.

While browsing the ODMP your memorial came up on the home page. May God continue to bless your family, protect them and give them the strength they need to carry on with their lives down the unexpected road they turned onto three years ago. Rest in peace; and thank you for your service!

We love you!! I know that you are smiling down on us!! You are with us each and every day as we make our walk without you. Haleigh is on the homecoming court at Bremen and this has been a bitter sweet time for us. You would have been so proud of her. She is also giving softball her all. Each time she bats she looks up to heaven for your approval. Matthew accpeted Christ into his life and we all are so proud of him. He tells everyone he is a new Christian. He is so much like you. Matthew also is getting glasses. He thinks this is so cool.

I was activated today while off-duty to assist with the scheduled arrival of refugees coming into Greensboro by plane as a result of Hurricane Katrina. I had big plans to spend the day dove hunting with my son. Although we were both disappointed by my activation, he understood the devastation and dispare caused by this storm. As I sit here and read about Lt. Jiles and the sacrifice he made, I realize what is indeed a small sacrifice for me to be called to duty to assist others in need. Thanks Lt. Jiles for your years of service.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, September 3, 2005 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Lieutenant Billy Ray Jiles who died in the line of duty on this date three years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Lt. Jiles' sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Lt
Billy it seems like officers are getting killed left and right lately here, it makes me wonder why I chose this profession. Really I feel like god chose this profession for me though. Billy there is never a day that goes by that I dont think of you. It sounds crazy but at least once a day rather it be night or day I look at the clock when It is 9:08 and I always say "I love you billy please take care of me and watch over me, I am not ready to come home to heaven yet, I love my life here on this earth" out loud. I feel like you hear me talking to you. Every time I get in a serious situation I always talk to you and tell you to watch over me. Billy when you died everything at the sheriffs office changed. It was still a good place to work but it was alot different. Billy you always treated me like family and took special care of me. You are the reason I came to the Carroll County sheriffs office to begin with. I always looked up to you when we worked at Douglas County together. I was two weeks out of high School and only 18 years old when I met you and you were my true heroe from that day foward. Billy we were close, when you gave me my badge number 980 I knew that I was working where I needed to be, because that was your badge number with the 80 backwards. If i did not leave the city Billy I would have been there with you at that shooting, that was my assigned sector and that was my shift. I probably would have gotton killed with you but it was not my time yet. You saved my life probably by getting me to come to the sheriffs office. Well Billy I just found about this web site today (07/02/05) or I would have emailed you earlier. I met you on 07/04/97 along with Leann Lyle (your cousin who worshiped the ground you walked on)it is strange I found this web site two days before the 8 year anniversary for me being in law enforcement and meeting you. Billy I hope your not disappointed in me I changed jobs recently. I started working in Alabama as a police officer in Hoover. The department pays good and has excellent benefits and retirement. I am still 100% a DEPUTY SHERIFF at heart. It shows the way I handle calls to, I still got that deputy mentality. I miss being a deputy more than I ever dreamed that I would but I keep telling myself I have more of a future in Hoover. some times I argue with myself though. I will always be a DEPUTY at heart. I once heard a saying: you can turn a police into a deputy but you cant turn a deputy into a police, that is true. Billy I will never forget you. If Holly, Haleigh , or Matthew ever need anything Billy i would be there for them. I would walk across hot coals barefooted to help any of your family Billy. I will always look up to you Billy. Sometimes at work I witness to people about god just like you taught me to. Billy I love you.
