Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Lieutenant Billy Ray Jiles

Billy, we love and miss you very much.

Charlotte & Dan Scoggins

Not only did we all lose a great officer and family member but we also lost a great friend and idol (and past sunday school teacher). I really looked up to billy and thought the world of him. God bless the family and family members of billy and the rest of our officers that have lost their lives protecting us. May they all R.I.P..

Toby, Karen, and Kelsey Folds

Billy was not only my cousin, but my BEST friend. Billy and I didn't really see much of each other growing up. It wasn't until we were both grown that we began doing things together and became closer than brothers. As best I can remember, our friendship really began in 1986. Billy started attending church where I had gone all my life. We began going places together and doing things together and soon it seemed we had always been friends.
When Billy married Holly, I didn't lose a friend, I gained another. They were always inviting me to go places and do things with them. I often felt like the "third wheel", but they insisted on having me around.
I have many fond memories of the years I was able to enjoy Billy's friendship. Some of the best include Oct. 21, 2000, when he stood as my Best Man at my wedding and then Aug. 24, 2002, when he came by the hospital after the birth of my son.
My family and Billy's spent practically every other weekend, if not every weekend, doing something together. Billy and I talked on the phone several times a week.
Suffice it to say that the days, weeks, and months since Sept. 3, 2002 have been difficult. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of something I would normally have called to tell Billy.
I was in awe of the many friends who came by the funeral home and the hundreds who attended his funeral. My wife and I both agreed that we just never really knew how great a man we were spending time with on weekends.
They say time heals, and I know that God will help us all get through this tremendous loss, and I know I will see Billy again one day.
I only hope that when it comes my time to go that I have touched as many lives in as strong and positive a way as Billy did.
Billy's favorite verse in the Bible was Philippians 4:13-"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." It is this verse that I claim daily to help deal with the loss of my best freind, Billy Jiles.

Kevin Bradley - friend of Billy

Lt.
I saw this poem today and it made me think of you. We miss you so much. You know people say it will get easier with time but I haven't seem to be able to find that time yet. It doesn't matter what the day has to bring I still find myself looking to wake up from the terrible nightmare. Things just aren't the same without you around the office. The laugh, the smile, the jokes it is all gone and it just don't seem right, but we must continue to live life to the fullest until we get to see you again one day.

I see the countless Christmas Trees
around the world below,
with tiny lights, like heaven's stars,
reflecting on the snow.

The sight is so spectacular,
please wipe away that tear,
for I am spending Christmas
with Jesus Christ this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs
that people hold so dear,
but the sounds of music can't compare
with the Christmas choir up here.

I have no words to tell you,
the joy their voices bring,
for it is beyond description,
to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me.
I see the pain inside your heart,
but I am not so far away.
We really aren't apart.

So be happy for me dear ones.
You know I hold you dear,
and be glad I'm spending Christmas,
with Jesus Christ this year.

I send you each a special gift,
from my heavenly home above.
I send you each a memory of,
my undying love.

After all "LOVE" is the gift,
more precious than pure gold.
It was always most important
in the stories Jesus told.

Please love and keep each other,
as my Father said to do,
for I can't count the blessing
or love He has for each of you.

So have a Merry Christmas
and wipe away that tear,
Remember, I'm spending Christmas,
with Jesus Christ this year

Thanks to everyone for your notes and prayers of encouragement. I visit the site often and always find comfort in knowing that Billy touched so many lives. Please accept our sincere thanks for everything each of you have done.

Billy's favorite verse from the bible was "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phil. 4:13

Haleigh, Matthew, and I will always be proud to be members of our law enforcement family in Carroll County as well as others who have touched our lives during our tragic loss.

God Bless each of you.

I didn't know Officer Jiles very well, but prayers go out to his wife & children. May God give you peace of mind, & rest for your souls to be to deal with his passing.
I really hate to hear that an officer gets gunned down by such sick individuals. Deputies & Police Officers really do more than their job requires. Alot of times had not been for local Law Enforcements being there for me, then I wouldn't be here today.

May God Bless each of his family members.

WAHT A LOSS TO US THE ALMIGHTY HAS CLAIMED,
AN OFFICER A FRIEND,BILLY JILES WAS HIS NAME

ONCE HE STOOD PROUDLY ALONG THE STREET,
WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE FOR ALL HE WOULD MEET

"GOOD MORNING" OR "GOOD EVENING" HE WOULD ALWAYS SAY.
"HOPE THINGS ARE FINE" AND "HAVE A GOOD DAY"

OFF HE WOULD GO,DOING HIS DAILY TASK,
TAKING CARE OF DUTY,NO QUESTIONS ASKED

CONCERNED WITH SAFETY DAY AFTER DAY,
KEEPING EVERYONE SECURE AND OUT OF HARMS WAY

WITH A BADGE ON HIS CHEST,WEARING IT WITH PRIDE,
AND A HEART OF PURE GOLD BREATHING INSIDE HIS CHEST

HIS JOB WAS PLEASANT AT TIMES,OCCASIONALLY BAD,
SOMETIMES THINGS HAPPENED THAT MADE HIM SAD

YET,HE WENT ON WITHOUT LETTING IT SHOW ON HIS FACE,
MAKING LIFE SAFER FOR THE HUMAN RACE

AN UNSELFISH MAN,HE GAVE HIS BEST TO ALL
HE SHARED OUR PROBLEMS,GOING BEYOND DUTY'S CALL

HE TOOK OTHER'S TROUBLES AS IF THEY WERE HIS OWN,
AND TO MOST OF US,THIS WAS NEVER KNOWN

HE WAS AN INSPIRATION TO ALL,AN EXAMPLE TO KIDS,
DID YOU EVER STOP TO THANK HIM FOR THE JOB THAT HE DID?

To the family of Lt. Jiles,

Words can never truly fill the void left behind. I keep a verse in mind every day I go on patrol that puts things into perspective for me and I hope it can help others. "Greater love hath no man that he lay his life down for another." John 15:13. I know it's only a few words but hopefully it offers some comfort.

Officer Shane Pierce
Lawrenceville PD, Lawrenceville, GA

You were a good husband and father. We all take some peace in the fact you knew where you are going now and may we all join you some day.

It had been over 8 years since the last time I saw Billy. But when I got the call the morning after this tragedy, it brought back old memories of him. Billy was SGT when I started working for Carrollton P.D. in 1988. At that time, the S.O. and P.D. shared a building - and he would come in the 'front office' while on duty and we would talk sometimes talk for what seemed like hours. Billy was a dedicated officer and it was always obvious that the enjoyed his job and was doing what he wanted to do.

I never knew any of Billy's family except his brother Rick. My thoughts and prayers are with all you. Billy will be watching over you from above forever !

Sheriff Langley, you and your department will always be in my heart. I still have many old friends at CCSO --- and I think of y'all often. You'll always be a part of my 'family'. May GOD bless all of you and keep you strong thru this.

As a dispatcher, my heart really goes out to Debra, Kathy, Lisa and the others at 911. You've worked with and was friends with Billy for many years and you will always hear his voice. We're trained not to get emotionally involved with our calls - or the person at the end of the radio -- but we all know that is impossible. I've been there - but by God's grace, my officer survived.

Lt Billy Jiles has departments. He is now one of God's Officers. He'll be on duty in Heaven always keeping an Angel's watch over all.

I love all of you, and may God bless you!!!!!

EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE KNOW WORDS TO DESCRIBE A PERSON LIKE LT BILLY JILES I JUST WANTED TO TRY AND AND GIVE THE PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT LUCKY ENOUGH TO CROSS HIS PATH A LITTLE IDEA ABOUT HIM. HE WAS A LT. IN UNIFORM BUT IN LIFE HE WAS A GREAT FRIEND. HE WILL BE MISSED BUT THERE IS NO WAY THAT HE WILL EVER BE FORGOTTEN.

I graduated with Billy and am proud to call him my friend. I have also known his lovely wife Holly and her family for years and they are all wonderful people. I learned about the tragedy and have been following it over the internet while serving as an infantryman in Hawaii. I can't believe he's gone, but we must remember that he died doing what he loved and trying to help someone. My wife and I are praying for his family. We will never forget his smile or that contagious laugh of his. My thoughts are with all of you ladies and men in law enforcement. Remember that you are all appreciated. Carry on and please be careful out there.

I would like to share a really amazing thing that happened today at the Sheriff's Office.
Today while I was at work a women came into the Office with her three year old grandson. She wanted to know if we could fingerprint him and take a photo in case anything ever happened to him and he become missing. While fingerprinting the little boy the grandmother went on to say that he decided yesterday that he wanted to go for a walk and find grandma's house. She stated that he left walking down the road towards her house which is on a totally different road and while he was walking two gentleman pulled up in a their vehicles. One of the gentleman recognized the young boy to be the ladies grandson and was going to take him to her house, while the other gentleman insisted on following them to make sure the child was being taken where he belonged. After they took the child to the grandmothers and left the young boy told his grandmother that the poilceman was so nice to him and helped him. The lady said she told him no son those two men were not police. He said but mawmaw that police helped me and she asked him what he looked like and all he would say was he had a gun and a badge and he helped me. She was kinda lost and didnt know who the young boy was talking about then later on during the day yesterday she said that she had the news paper and was looking at it and the boy said mawmaw, that is the police that helped me, that is him! The lady said out of all the pictures of the Law Enforcement Officers that was pictured on that page that her grandson picked out the picture of Lt. Billy Jiles.
I was kinda at a loss of words, I mean what can you say. I am going to tell you, Billy is still here today doing his duty and we have a three year old boy that is safe back at home that is living proof. Those of you who know Billy knows he loved kids and I believe with all my heart he was there watching over that little boy.

If Tears Could Build A Stairway

If tears could build a stairway
And memories were a lane
We would walk right up to heaven
And bring you back again.

No farewell words were spoken
No time to say good-bye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why.

Our hearts still ache in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one can ever know

But now we know you want us
To Mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store

Since you'll never be forgotten
We pledge to you today
A hallowed place within our hearts
Is where you'll always stay.

We Miss You!

The Lord Is My Shepherd

I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures,
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the
paths of righteousness for His Name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death I will fear no evil
for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff
they comfort me...
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

Lieutenant Billy R. Jiles,
Your smile and your genuine concern for others will forever be etched in my memory.....
