Reflections for Police Officer Scott T. Stewart, IV

To Scott's family- I hope this brings you peace.

I'M FREE

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me.

I took his hand when I heard him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I've found great peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life's been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief,
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now: HE SET ME FREE.

love
Marge

I'm so sorry for your loss, I went through the same pain, in Jan. of this year. People somtimes don't understand what we Police Officers go through, but for some reason I have overcome the pain of losing someone, Ofc Stewart's family will too, and they will realize, that he died a hero, and is not only missed by the fine people of the Deroit Police Dept, But by Police Officers from around the World !!!
God Bless, my prayers are with the family of Scott, and his brothers & sisters on the JOB !!!!!!

Officer Matthew Kelly
Haverford Twp Police. PA

Rest in Peace brother.

Lt. David Stevens
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office

The following is a poem that a Detroit Police officer wrote, he knew my brother:

"For those whom remain"

The phone wakes us up this time once again
To tell us we'd missed our duty again.
We all should have been there to see the unseen
We all should have been there to help intervene.

The ER is now working at a fevered pace
While we wait outside and beg for God's grace.
The doctors come out with tears in their eyes
The chaplin tries to help us through our good-byes.

A pain in our soul begins to set in
Our duty is now to his family and friends.
To support and console is not the only task
We do this with honor and without being asked.

We meet at the church to pay our respects
And we go to the cemetary full of regret.
"Amazing Grace" from the piper again this time
We try and help each other not to lose our minds.

With salt on our cheeks and grief in our eyes
We leave our partner with one last goodbye.
Tossing and turning as the night goes on
Wrestling half asleep with what went wrong.

A brother has fallen from our ranks yet again
Leaving nothing but guilt for those whom remain.

I was informed of Ofc Stewart's death at a shift briefing by my SGT, who was genuinely upset by the circumstance and how easily a situation can turn bad even though the officer is doing everything right. I am an officer in South Carolina, and I only hope to convey that thoughts and prayers are with the family from all over the country and the world.

May God hold your family in His loving arms until you are together again....RIP

To my best buddy...Stewie...we meet many years ago in Ft. Riley, we had plenty of fun together and choose the same of field of work knowing the dangers involved. You would like to know that your family treated me like your brother, but again that runs in the blood. Stewie..."Its not the way you died that made you a hero, but the way you lived". I love you Stewart, we shall meet again (roommates Again?)....Mike

Dear Scotty,

I will miss you more than words can say. I came to visit you, but I was one day late. Your friends and co-workers have been a great support for the family. I know why you loved to go to work, they are a wonderful group of people. Please watch over the girls, I will never let Jordan forget you. I love and miss you. You were a wonderful person. I will think about you every day.

Love,

To my friend and partner, Stewie.I took you under my wing 4 years ago in the hopes of teaching you as much as I could about being a policeman. Today I look back and realize that you taught me more about being a good cop and a good friend than I could have ever hoped to have taught you. For those who did not know Scott Stewart, he was the most tactically sound police officer I had ever worked with. Scott's street-smarts, intelligence, creativity and unquestionable courage made him one of the finest street cops this city has ever seen. I will miss Stewie the cop each night I hit the streets, but most importantly, I will miss Stewie, my dear friend.

To the family and friends of Fallen Officer Stewart:

As Minneapolis grieves her own loss, please know that you and your city are surrounded by communities that know and understand your pain, your anger, and your sorrow. There is no quick heal--the grief that you bear must be worn away with time. But in the meantime, don't be afraid to reach out--to grab hold of what remains: each other and the memories you have of a great hero. Celebrate what was and what may come.

Monica and Stewart family I only new Scott for a very short time. As my first incounter with Scott was at a family funeral service. The Love and caring that he showed for Monica and others was truly inspirational. As I was fortunate to meet Scott's parents it was evident of his well bringing up as well as morals. As he has fallen, his love for his family, Monica and most importantly to the citizens of Detroit is truly a loss. On 8-11-02 the world truly lossed a hero and great family man. May god bless Scott his family and Monica. May Scott never be forgotten for his courage and the will to protect and serve. I will always think of him as a hero. God Bless all that has been exposed to this tragedy.

Very Respectfully

It is in great sorrow that I leave this message, as words cannot describe the loss felt when an officer is taken from among us. however, it should be known, that there are no safer streets, than those in heaven, which are patroled by officer's who gave the ultimate . Officer's like Detroit PD's Officer Stewart.

My thoughts are with you, the family of Officer Stewart, and the men and women of the Detroit Police Department.

Scotty,

What a sight yesterday was. 3,000 of your brother/sisters came to HONOR you. The guys from the crew did an outstanding job and they are the ones that will look after your family from now on. Speaking of family, they are fine...So don't worry they are in good hands. REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER and watch over those of us who are still fighting the endless war in our streets.

You were and always will be an inspiration to me. I will never forget you!!!

Scott,
I never knew you, in fact I just went to your funeral. All I can say is that we lost a true hero when you were taken from our ranks. May you rest easy and may your loved ones begin to heal from their tragic loss. I will never forget the officer that I learned so much about today.
