Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Ann Marie Guinta

ANN, WE SURE HAD SOME CRAZY TIMES IN THE ACADEMY. I WAS DEEPLY SADDENED WHEN I HEARD OF OUR LOSS. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND WATCH OVER US. P.S. "GIVE MY BROTHER A HUG FOR ME".

Ride Along

So you don’t like the ticket I just gave you.
Well, come take a ride with me.
A trip to the scene of an accident.
Where a person now struggles for freedom, and for life.
All because someone was in a hurry, or late for work.

You say you didn’t call me and you don’t need my help.
That this is a family matter and none of my business.
Come take a ride with me.
Where a child now cowers in the nearest corner, or bedroom closet.
They cover their ears and ask god “ please make them stop”.
Still think no one needs my help.

You’ve said all we do is eat donuts and drink coffee.
Come take a ride with me.
On the countless days after taking four calls in an hour.
We think we have time to sit down for dinner.
Only to be call away again.

You think we’re cold and have no heart.
Well, come take a ride with me.
To a place where the pipes now lay to rest.
A brother or sister who gave their life, for someone like you.
A place where tears fall like rain for their family,
For our family, and yes even for you.
Yeah, come take a ride with me.

I covered DeKalb County at the time of the end of Ann's watch. I can honestly say that I've never covered a death where more people had so many genuinely positive things to say about your dedication to law enforcement, your community and to your son. God obviously took notice of your character and called you to stand a new watch in Heaven.

Annie,
I miss you today and every day for so many reasons and now we have another little reason on the way. I'm so sad that he'll never know you as the huge presence that you would have been in his life, but I can promise that he'll hear plenty of stories about his really great Aunt Annie the superhero and he'll know just how much we love you.

When Ann graduated from the academy we worked a territory together. The everlasting impression she left on me was that she was never afraid to jump into the fray and help in any way possible. She was a good officer who did her job, which is the highest compliment I can give her. On the day of her accident we would have been working in the same area and I regret that I didn't get to talk to her one more time.

She will never be forgotten.

I love you Ann and I miss you everyday. XOXOX

Ann, you are great. I am honored to have served with you. Whenever you were in my ajacent territory, I knew I had great back-up. You are one of the best who cared about the job and it showed. Yeah, I too remember that smiling face. Blessed are the warriors.

Officer Guinta I wish that I had known you. In a way I have, you are representative of the fine officers that carry on the work across our nation. My sincere condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Ann.

I wish that I could have spent more time with Ann. I only saw her once a week. When we were doing ride-a-longs at the end of the academy, I got to meet Ann on my first ride with Center. I could not forget her huge smile.. Then when I worked day watch and got to see/speak with her once a week.. I wish to have spent more time with Ann. I drive by her memorial on N.Decatur daily.. What a wonderful person.. I have learned so much more about Ann in the past year from all of her close friends.. God bless you and your family.

I never met Ann, but I know a lot about what kind of person she was. I met Ann's family at Police Week in Washington, DC. What a wonderful group of people they are! Her son is adorable; I have a picture of him in a miniature of his Mom's uniform in front of the Capitol. Judging by her family and the words left in this forum by friends, Ann was an awesome individual. I wish I'd had the privilege of meeting her. She's patrolling in Heaven now, with some of my good friends. Her son gave me a patch from her agency, and her parents gave me a memorial patch. I will treasure them always.

Once a Sister, always a Sister. You will never be forgotten. God bless you for all that you did and all that you will do. All of your brothers and sisters in blue will know that you will be watching over them. Our prayers and hearts go out to your family and friends.....

Officer Guinta gave her life answering a call to help a stranger. May God watch over her daughter and fellow officers. I am reminded daily by the ODMP at how quickly our lives can be changed. Before I leave for duty I always kiss my wife good-bye and put my hand on my wifes belly and tell the baby good-bye as well.
