Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Richard Edward Ashley, Sr.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AS AN OFFICER! MAY GOD WATCH OVER YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS! REST IN PEACE!

911 DISPATCHER
TN

may god bless you boys. thank you for your service.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family friends and brother officers of Deputy Richard Ashley. As his school director I never saw him without a smile and a kind word, even under the most stressful of situations. As a friend, I admired him as a warm and caring individual. As a fellow Law Enforcement officer I feel his loss but yet I am instilled with a sense of pride. To his family, be strong and we will continue to have you in our prayers. Richard is in good company and will always be remembered.

I attended BLET with Deputy Ashley, and by far, he was one of the nicest men I have ever met. Through the entire academy, Deputy Ashley never once had a bad word to say about anyone, nor did he complain about the long hours and vigorous training we went through. He always had a smile on his face; even when we were all suffering through the long runs and grass drills. He never gave up. He always faced each and every challenge with the brightest outlook. For those who knew Deputy Ashley knew what a good man he was, and for those who didn't, you missed out on knowing a top notch officer. He will be greatly missed.

I would like to express my grief and sadness as to the death of Deputy Ashley. Our small community has suffered a great loss, of an excellent deputy. In this small town atmosphere it is hard to think that anything this tragic could happen. My condolences go out to the family and friends who knew this man, who gave his life in an effort to keep drugs off the streets and out of the hands of our youths. Heaven needed an angel and God chose deputy Ashley, to serve for his department. He will surely be missed by all who knew him.

To the family & friends of Deputy Ashley,
You are in my prayers and I'm praying God will give you the strength, courage and comfort that you will need to help you during this tragedy. It will be difficult and there will be days that you feel like you can't go on but remember that he would want you to enjoy life the best you can. I know it's hard.....I lost the man I had dispatched for and been married to for 8 years last year. I am from Tyrrell County and spent quite a bit of time in Edenton as a kid/teenager so I know what a shock this must be to the people who live there. Pull together and help each other through this.....you can't do it alone. There are lots of people in the law enforcement community who are more than willing to help you.....sometimes you just need to ask.
God bless you all,
Denise

I am saddened by the loss of the three officers in the plane crash. I work the marijuana eradication program with my department and fly in helicopters for the spotting. Therefore this tragedy hit me close to home. In addition I lost a sister officer and best friend; Officer Kristin Pataki, on May 04, 2002 to a car accident while she was responding to backup a fellow officer.
There are no words to express the pain that is felt by all whenever a fellow officer is lost.
My heart goes out to all family, friends and co-workers in your time of great loss. Have faith that your loved one is in a better place with my friend and every other fallen officer and they all are on watch over us.

Deputy Ashley,

I want to thank you for your sacrifice made while trying your best to keep more drugs off the street. I would also like to offer my condolences to your family, friends and LEO family you left behind. You will not be forgotten.

My father was born and raised in Bryson City, so I have spent a lot of time in this beautiful part of the country. Thank you again for keeping it safe for others.

I was Deeply Saddened when I received news of the loss of Deputy Richard Ashley Jr. I unfortunately didn't know Richard as well as I wish I could have, but I knew him well enough to call him my friend.
I knew Richard as a Cadet from his Basic Law Enforcement Training where I spent many hours with him as an instructor. Richard was a fine and upstanding man. I remember him as somewhat quiet, yet outgoing, deligent and confident. I never saw him get discouraged, only more determined. He was an excellent cadet and I had very high hopes for him in his law enforcement career.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Richard Ashley in this tragic time, for I feel as though I have lost a son. I hope that the family and friends of Richard can find peace and comfort in knowing that he died a hero. The citizens of Chowan County have suffered a tremendous loss. The Chowan County Sheriff's Office has lost a terrific Deputy. Richard Edward Ashley Jr. is walking a beat on Heaven's streets, for he's served his time on Earth.
Rest in Peace Brother ! We have the watch for you ! God Speed !!!
