Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Anthony Scott Futrell

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

You are my friend and I truly miss you. The days that we shared at the academy always stay fresh in my mind. Thanks for your friendship and we will meet some day soon.

God Bless Karen and the kids because NO-ONE can replace Scott Futrell. (Karen's oldest child - smile).

To the Futrell's , the amount of "reflections" on this page is a testament to the love , respect and admiration that people had for Scott. You're all forever in our prayers. To Scott, I'm a better officer for having known you.

Thoughts go out to the family and friends

Husband of a RCMP member. ( Royal Canadian Mounted Police )

We cops in NC are going to pay solemn respect to our fallen brothers and sisters of the badge this Friday at the Annual Peace Officer's Memorial Day Ceremony, held in Charlotte this year.

I attended the funereal of my friend, Boone PD MAJ Bob Kennedy, in neighboring Watauga County. Due to time and distance constraints, I could not attend the funeral of this fine sergeant, but at Bob's service we paid our respects and grieved for the loss of three brave men, not just one.

This veteran officer now patrols the streets of Heaven with St..Michael. I appreciate his many years of service to the Queen City and I pray for his family, friends and colleagues.

God Bless and be safe.

May God bless Sgt. Futrell's family. Scott recruited me to CMPD and was not only an outstanding officer, trainer, and individual, but a huge asset and inspiration for all officers who entered the profession of law enforcement. He was the definition of "High Speed". Rest in peace. You are in a better place Brother.

Officer Adam Emerick

Scott, You are truely missed by everyone in Richmond County and especially the Special Response Team which you trained for countless hours. You will not be forgotten. ( 1* )

As a law enforcement officer and member of Civil Air Patrol, my thoughts and prayers go out to the families of these officers. In my CAP capacity, I have flown and will continue to fly these Erad missions. We have posted the officers' pictures and bios in our CAP flight ops room and think of them and their sacrafices every day. SEMPER VILIGANS

To Scott's wife and children, May God wrap each of you in his loving arms and ease the pain of your broken hearts. I will miss Scott's smile and wonderful personality. To Scott's "Brothers in Blue", know that he still flies with you...only at a higher level now. Gob Bless each of you!

In my time with CMPD I did not know a more professional and squared away officer than Scott. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I am a better officer because of Scott and what he taught me over the years. CMPD is a better department because of Scott's service. You are truly missed brother.

The family of Sr. Trooper Michael Rao would like to express our deepest condolences to Sgt. Futrell's family. At times the pain feels unbearable (it's been 7 weeks since Mike's death), but as time passes, it has eased. The law enforcement community is the most wonderful and supportive family we have encountered, as we have learned by leaning on them. May God grant you His peace and comfort as you adjust to living with the loss of your husband, father, brother, son, and coworker.

Sgt Futrell and I went through SWAT instructor school together in Dec 1995. As the school progressed I got to know him better and realized what a truly talented officer he was. Though I only knew him for one week, I felt as though I'd known him forever. He will be truly missed. We are all better people for having the opportunity to know him. Rest in Peace.

It always hurts my heart to lose an officer. Makes it even harder when its one of my own. Being a dispatcher I get to meet a lot of officers, and Scott was just one of the many I work with. He will be missed, but will NEVER be forgotten. Rest in Peace Brother!
