Reflections for Officer Robert Joseph Nielsen

You are in my thoughts and prayers everyday. Even though you are gone I still look for you, wondering where my daily greeting is. You were always there to cheer me up when I was down. I am sad that you are gone but still smile when I think of the times we spent on graves; the Donner saga, and chili cheese fries. You served us well on earth and will do the same in heaven. I will see you again someday but will miss you for now and find comfort that you will forever be code 4. God bless to you and your family.

Sallie Edwards, Dispatcher
Chandler Police Department

Rob,
You will be deeply missed by all! Your smile, which I swear was tattooed to your face, your sense of humor, and the stories of Donner and Jack N Box will live in our hearts forever. You were a great cop and an even better human being. You were America's Warrior here on Earth and now it is time for you to be God's Warrior. Go forth and begin your new mission in peace knowing that you have completed your mission on Earth with the highest of Honors! Rest easy knowing that Ann Marie and your family will be taken care of by the Department and all it's members. I'll have to catch you the next time we meet to get that brownie you promised me the other day. Rest in peace my Brother. We love you.

Dispatcher Roy L. Stanifer #3872
Chandler Police Department

Rob,

We will miss your beautiful stories that brought light to our days. You were a hero here on earth, now it is your turn to serve Our Lord. You were a remarkable example of what an officer should be. You will be truly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this tragic time. How many more will it take before the problem is fixed? God bless you all.

Another Hero entering heaven's gates to patrol with God's finest. To his family, friends, and co-workers, may He give you strength everyday to honor your fallen Hero. To those of you in uniform, he lives through you to all those who will never have the priveledge of meeting him. Officer Nielsen, enjoy your Heavenly perch, you've done your time in hell...Rest in Peace.

Isaiah 40:31

Oh behalf of the FBI Agents Association, I express my sincere condolences to the Family, Friends, and Colleagues of the Late Officer Robert Nielsen. I've spent quite a few months working in Phoenix and the surrounding area since Sept 11, 2001 and the agencies in the area are among the best in the country. Ironically, I'm headed for training in Chandler this month. The death of Officer Nielsen puts a damper on that training, already.

I draw strength (and I hope Officer Nielsen's colleagues will, too) from the following passage of scripture in Romans 13:4 : For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

If God is for us, who can be against us? Amen!

Darin L. Paul, Special Agent
Federal Bureau of Investigation, Detroit Division

I did not personally know Officer Robert Nielsen but we worked within the same department. I would see him in passing and knew of his name. When I heard the news of his death, my heart sunk and I immediately felt an agonizing pain as if I had lost my own family member.

Rob, we hardly knew you, but our compassion and admiration for you will forever live strong. I know you are with a higher being, and hope from time to time you will look down on us with a big smile.

God bless,

J. Robinson #317

We ask ourselves, "Why?"...."Why did God take such a good person and great officer when we need his help down here???"...Well, Rob continues to help us, even though he's not here w/ us on earth, he is w/ us in spirit. Rob looks down on us and smiles with every sunrise and sunset. I know he is looking out for all of us and I can't describe how much I miss him. He greatly touched everyone he met and taught me to laugh in the face of adversity. And for that, I am a better person. I love and miss you, Rob. I'll never forget the laughs we shared. God bless you and I will take good care of Razorball for you!!!

Once again, we lose another brother in the "Ford Crown Victoria". This will stop and we need to send a message to Ford that it is their problem and ask how many more officers need to die for them to care (Just in AZ alone, 3 have lost their lives and 1 severely burned). It is time for us to look to other automakers to secure police vehicle packages.

To my fellow officers in Chandler, my heart is with you in this time of need.

To Mrs. Neilson, your husband is now walking the streets of heaven making them safe for all of the angels and making a place for you and your family when God calls you home.

For: Among us, sent down from Heaven, are those that walk a "Thin Blue Line", that's a given. Like guardian angels to watch over me and you, are those that wear the uniform blue. They lay their personal feelings aside, they do their job, they have such pride. And if one should fall among life's thing, the badges they wear, turn into to wings.

God Bless, Officer Don Vine #5896, Phoenix PD

TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF OFFICER ROBERT NIELSON MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU. WE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH SOMETHING SO HORRIBLE. UNFORTUNATLY I UNDERSTAND YOUR LOSS, I ALSO LOST MY BROTHER ONE YEAR AGO. WE WILL NEVER FORGET THOSE WHO HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES FOR OUR SAFTY AND FREEDOM.
REST IN PEACE OFC NEILSON, YOUR TIME ON HELL IS OVER, NOW YOU WILL WALK THE GOLDEN STREETS OF HEAVEN.

To the family of Officer Robert Nielsen:
My heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your loved one.
I myself was in an accident almost 5 years ago (6/30/97) while on duty. My vehicle rolled 3 times and became consumed in flames with me in it. What horror to think that this was to be my fate, as I was trapped in an inferno. But I guess it was not my time, for two teengers pulled me out, as my patrol vehicle exploded in flames. When DPS Officer Juan Cruz (who I personally knew) was killed in an accident, I re-lived my nightmare. I cried for days after his death, asking why I was spared and not he. Again when Officer Schechterle from Phx PD survived his accident, I cried for him and asked God to spare him.

I want Robert's family to know that there are many of us praying for them, and for the soul of their loved one. I offer my suffering and nightmares for Robert Nielson's peace.

Know that a true Hero has gone to Heaven and will join others gone before him, to prepare a place for all of us for internal rest.
Rest in Peace Brother and God Bless.

I worked with Officer Rob Nielsen on the night shift up until this past January. Officer Nielsen was the kind of cop who had a year on the job, but you would think he was a ten year vet. He was smart, witty, and had a great sense of humor. He was a hard worker, and loved to chase burglars and thieves during the graveyard shift. He had a penchant for writing, and would send short comedic stories over the car computer to other officers on his team during slow night shifts. I swear he could have wrote novels had he not chose to be a police officer. Rob was a big guy, the kind you like to see arrive on scene of a fight or confrontational type incident. Rob was familiar to the handlers on the K9 unit, as he had been out to "decoy" for us in the past. We have a nice photo of Rob on the briefing room wall taking a bite from one of our dogs. Rob, you will be tremendously missed by you friends at the police department. You most certainly will never be forgotten, or dimished in our thoughts as times goes on. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your wife Anne Marie, your parents, and the rest of your family.

Officer Nielsen, seeing the submission of your last mission on earth makes me wish that there was a way for this to end. But I know that there are brave souls that are determined to go on, no matter the cost, for I am also one. I pray that although your time on earth was short, I hope you lived life to its fullest. If there was one life that you touched and made a difference, it was all worth it. RIP Brother

Four officers died yesterday in the United States, once again exhibiting the perils of this job. Four fine officers died doing what they loved to do. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and the Chandler Police Department. Rest in peace.
