Sherry,
Thank you for sharing your brother with me! The pictures and memories made me feel as though I knew him, too. I am so glad I met you, and I know Dad and Rob are watching over us, also glad that we know each other now. Thank you for my Arizona COPS bear- he sits proudly on my shelf! That was so thoughtful of you. Take care and know that someone in NC is thinking of you and praying for you and your family!
God bless~
Lori

Rob,
It has been over three years since you passed. We miss you greatly. I know you are watching over us as we work each night. Many times, it is easy to forget the real dangers that we face. I have your photograph in my locker, so I am reminded of the many dangers we face, each night as I put on my uniform. Thank you for your service. Rest in peace.

Although we have never met Officer Nielsen, we know this will not be a day you will soon forget. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue to face the days ahead. We, too, lost our son, Deputy Shane Bennett, on this same date two years ago. They are probably together watching over us each and every day. May God Bless!

Rob,
You were a great guy and a better cop. You were always there to lend a hand and could always be counted on in a pinch. Thank you for your service. To Ann Marie, I never met you but Rob spoke of you often. I hope you remain strong and know that you both are remembered.

I was there when this crash happened. I am very sorry for the family members of Officer Nielsen. I know what it feels like to lose a family member when you are not expecting it. I just want to express how much it means to me that Officer Nielsen died while protecting the community. I wish I got a chance to tell him that and I wish I got a chance to give my regards to the family and friends of Officer Nielsen.

We will all miss Rob very much, no matter what was going on he could always make you smile. He was the type of person you could count on to be there if you need help.

I will miss out chats on our days we would overlap working the same beats but I will always know he is up there watching over each one of us as we do the job he loved so very much.

Take care Rob I will miss you very much.

Thank you for your dedication to the people of Chandler, and the state of Arizona. Nobody but God knows the road that lies ahead of us each day, but he chose you to walk that road back home that particular day. I know you are involved in more important work now... His work. Let us hope that there will be a solution to the problems & fires with the Crown Vic's so that nobody else has to experience this horrific tragedy.

From one Moose to another.... God Bless, and watch over us from above. We can always use the extra protection, brother!

On behalf of the Nielsen family, we thank you all for your loving kindness and heartfelt words. My Moosie was a pretty special guy and it's nice to know you all agree! We will all help each other keep our chins up as our broken hearts heal. It will be a long process, but together it will be easier.

Thank you to everyone at Chandler P.D., Mayor Dunn and the city council, the citizens of Chandler and the hundreds of others throughout the state that made Rob's funeral so amazing. We couldn't have asked for a better form of closure or anything more respectful and fitting to honor Rob. A special thanks to all of you who were part of the services: speakers, vocalists, palbearers, etc. I will always remember.

Today is the 4th of July - a holiday Rob treasured. A few of us went to the cemetary this morning to place flags there. Today we remember my husband and his love for service as well as so many others who have given their life, the ultimate sacrifice, for our betterment. I pray for them all daily.

Thank you all again. There is a special place in heaven for you.

I had the honor to attend the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy with Officer Nielsen. During that time, Ofc. Nielsen and I had a few conversations while running at the back of the pack. Although I knew Ofc. Nielsen for only a short time, he made a lasting impression, and he will be missed by his classmates, of Class 343.

Officer Joel S. Freed II
Kingman Police Department

Well, my good friend, the ceremonial tribute is over and you are now to rest. You worked hard enough here and you have a well deserved rest. However, just because you are kicking back there, you will not be forgotten here. The Moose will be a ride along on every call. Your stories and cad mail will occupy the boredom of many a slow graveyard shift.

I shall miss our morning cad conversations, but I'll not miss a day talking to you my friend. I'll say hello to you each day and I'll ask you to guide my words as you did my "FINAL CALL" tribute to you. God bless and keep you forever !! I pray we shall meet again !!

Good day sir !!

Chandler, Arizona PD

I can still recall the day I met Rob. We were at the police department during the new employee orientation. While standing in the hall near the Records Department, I remember him smiling at me, extending his hand and saying, "Hi, I'm Rob Nielsen". I could tell right then what kind of person he was. It was written all over his face. Funny that a smile and a hand shake would create such a lasting impression on someone in our line of work. Thank you Rob for being the kind of human we all should be. In the words of Pablo Francisco, "Those are my tortillas"!

Thank you for everything brother!

Officer Rob Scotford #446
Chandler Police Department

Rob brightened many days for many people. His smile alone was contageous, but his stories about Lawnchair Larry, Donner and some outrageous recipes for unique dinners were always good for a laugh. We will miss Rob, but the memory of him will always make me smile. I look forward to our next meeting!

On behalf of both Alex and Myself, as well as all of your brother and sister officers at the Los Angeles Police Department we would like to extend our condolences to Officer Nielsen's family. It is a tragedy any time an officer gives his life in the line of duty but this one hit us particularly hard. We have become very close to members of the Chandler Police Department over the years and hold them in very high regards. We are deeply saddened by this passing and again extend our heartfelt condolences to all of Officer Nielsen's friends and family.

Police Officers John Munguia & Alex Orti

I applied to many Police Departments in my quest to become a Police Officer. I flew to AZ from NJ in 2000 to test with Chandler PD. I must say that not being hired by Chandler was my greatest disappointment. Chandler is a great PD and Ofc. Nielsen was lucky to have been with such a fine department. I wish we could have had a chance to work together, I'm sorry to see you go.
REST IN PEACE BROTHER
