Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Shane Ronald Bennett

It is sad that we have lost another person in the law enforcement community. I often work with the Harris County Sheriffs office and they truely do a wonderful job with what they have to put up with. Shane as I understand was a good cop. God bless his soul.

Tragic loss to a brother, father and hero......I along with other Police Officers bleed everytime we read these tragic senseless losses. God bless Deputy Bennett and his 18 month old daughter......sadly she will never have any recollection of her father because of some scumbag.

Godspeed my brother!!

As a resident of Harris County, the news this morning left me with a heavy heart. My personal condolences go out to the family and friends of Deputy Bennett.

To his family I say thank you for supporting him in his desire to make our world a better place. I personally appreciate the fact that he dedicated his life toward keeping people like myself and my family safe.

To his colleagues with the Harris County Sheriff's office I also say thank you. As a citizen of the community that you are sworn to serve and protect, I share the same feelings as each one of you for having this soul taken from our midst. I will continue to raise my son to respect each and every one of you and appreciate the commitments you have made to being there for those oppressed.

With the utmost respect,

So young, so soon. Dying a hero, going where others dare not go, saving lives at the expense of his own. Thank you, Deputy Bennet for your unselfish commitment to your community and the strangers who depended on you 24-7. You are now patrolling streets of gold with God's Finest. Tell 762 to show you the ropes, he has been there since 11-13-01, and being the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet, he would want to help. Your family, friends and fellow Deputies will be in the prayers of many. Godspeed.

Isaiah 40:31

My heart goes out to the family of Deputy Sheriff Bennett. In our line of work we do what is necessary to protect life. We think of our own, but our job is to look out for the afflicted. I feel so much grief for his little girl. I pray that she will always know in her heart that her father died a hero.
To Deputy Bennett's family; These are tough times, but God is with you and him.

Teresa, Mr. & Mrs. Bennett,
As my phone rang at 3:30 a.m. with the news of Shane's death, my thoughts went to all of you. Words are never going to let you know the pain your extended family is feeling for you and we just can't tell you enough how sorry we are. Continue to hold your heads high in his honor and remember he is a hero. There are so many of us that will stand by your side and be there for you to hold on to when you feel like you can't make it through another minute.
We love you all.

Rest in peace, Deputy Bennett, your watch is over now. As I sit here with tears rolling down my face remembering our two local deputies who lost their lives in November, I know your department, your family and friends are in for a long painful heartbreaking journey but my prayers will be with them. You're in good company with some of law enforcement's finest patrolling the golden streets now. You will be remembered as a true hero. May you fly high with your new wings.

My heart goes out to this fallen hero's family, friends and co-workers. Heaven just received another angel. I hope the passing of time will help heal your hearts, as you mourn the loss of your peace officer. "Blessed are the Peace Makers"

Shane was one of the brightest, most energetic and upbeat individuals I have ever met. I was fortunate enough to be assigned as his first FTO back in 1997, and was amazed by his enthusiasm for the job. The loss the law enforcement community suffered today and the personal loss suffered by all those who knew Shane is greater than anyone could ever know.

Dear Law Enforcement Family,

I do not know you but I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine what you are going through. I am the wife of a police officer and I pray each night that my husband comes home to me. His last words to me before he leaves for work is, “I love you and I’ll be home.” I pray he is able to keep his word.

God be with you and your family.

My heart goes to the family of deputy Bennett and to the Harris County Sheriff's Department. My wife is from Houston and I was just there less than a month ago when another deputy was shot, luckily not fatally. It takes special people to do this job that we all love so and I assure you that Deputy Bennett died doing a job that he loved. Always remember that God is watching and he will take care of us and comfort us in our time of need and sorrow.

Words cannot adequately express the feelings those of us in law enforcement get when we hear of the loss of a fellow officer. The current home invasion (AKA "pseudo-cops")tactics that these gang members and drug traffickers are using scare the heck out of all of us in Law Enforcement. There aren't too many officers in Texas who have not yet responded to these calls. While no one can say what was going through the minds of Shane and his partner before walking through that door, I can tell you without reservation that it took very brave individuals to go on in. None of us knows what lies on the other side of that door, but we all know that it is our duty to go through it.

From your South Texas brothers and sisters, please accept our deepest condolences.

Sgt H.L. Hawbaker
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department (TX)

God bless Deputy Bennett and his family. Another hero loses his life protecting those of us he did not even know. A true hero.
