Yamil and I went to the academy together and graduated this month back in 2002; it’s hard to believe that it’s been ten years now. Yamil was the best student in our class, and that is the pure truth. All of us knew that he would make an exceptional police officer and I felt that Clarksville PD was fortunate to have him.

Yamil was extremely fit, very intelligent, and he always spoke to others in a very respectful and unpretentious manner…….I never once heard him use a curse word or get angry during the academy. That speaks volumes for both his character and his beliefs as a Christian.

I would run into Yamil frequently in the latrine inside the academy barracks where we were staying; he was very meticulous about the appearance of his hair. I used to joke with him that he could moonlight as a hair model and that he was “wearing out our mirrors” because he’d comb his hair so much.

When I returned to my department after the academy, we lost contact with each other…….. it was the nature of the beast. We were all new police officers and we were busy learning our trade, and those first few months on the job allowed very little time just to be with family, let alone friends.

I felt like I’d been hit by a bus when I was told that Yamil had died and I didn’t want to believe it. We hadn’t been out of the academy long and surely it was a mistake. When I received the terrible confirmation, the savage injustice of it broke my heart. This was an outstanding police officer, family man, and friend who was taken from us far too soon. I was blessed to have known Yamil for the short time that I had.

Dios los bendiga, mi amigo. Te recordaré siempre!

every time i hear the ssong "daddy's little girl" i get so emotionnal thinking of my father and the things i will not get to do with him. Also every time i hear kongas it reminds me of him when he played them in the chruch. Sometimes i feel jealous of my friends becuase they get to do what they want with their dad and i wont get to because he is in heaven, most girls dont appreciate what they have even if their parents are devorced they are so lucky that their dad is still alive. Now i got a second chance and have a second dad, a second chance( as i out it) and i love him so much but i wont change my dad for anything both of them r me fathers.

I miss you man, I never forget Guard mount for Nobel Eagle, you were always quoting that Bible verse to me, saying we were "free fro the law because of Christ. " I didnt really get that back then but i sure do now. I remember that day Duayne The Rock Johnson came through our check point. You were like a kid, you were so excited. wonder if he noticed the way you cut your side burns. I cant shake the thoughts of that last drill, i walked in late and saw the empty boots on the drill hall floor. You had been gone a month and I didnt have a clue you were gone, i rember just thinking someone had droped there boots or something. l Then at roll call when Top called your name. I dont know what i felt. Hell of a way to find out. Ive been pissed a lot since then, missed your funeral, couldnt deal with it cause chain of command wanted us to go about buisness as usual. wouldnt even let us put the flag to half mast. I guess im writing this to say im sorry, i didnt shead a tear that day, I didnt go to your funneral, i just got mad. you were always there for me, took to church when we were in covengton. led by example, Greatest soldier i ever knew.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the seventh anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Baez is a true hero, every morning before our shift he would say "we are frred from the law, freed by Jesus Christ." it wasnt till he was gone i came to truly understand what he ment.. through Jesus Christ and His forgivness and sacrifice we are freed and do not have to face judgment...... Everyone who didnt serve with yamil missed a blessing words can not describe.

POLICE OFFICER
PHILA PA

March 8, 2008

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Cop on the Take

First he takes the oath.

Now look at all he takes.

He takes it in stride when people call him pig.

He takes time to stop and talk to children.

He takes your verbal abuse while giving you a ticket you really deserved.

He takes on creeps you would be afraid to even look at.

He takes time away from his family to keep you safe.

He takes your injured child to the hospital.

He takes the graveyard shift without complaint because it's his turn.

He takes his life into his hands daily.

He takes you home when your car breaks down.

He takes time to explain why both your headlights have to work.

He takes the job no one else wants--telling you a loved one has died.

He takes criminals to jail.

He takes in sights that would make you cry.

Sometimes he cries too, but he takes it anyway because someone has to.

If he is lucky, he takes retirement.

He takes memories to bed each night that you couldn't bear for even one day.

Sometimes, he takes a bullet.

And yes, occasionally he may take a free cup of coffee.

Then one day he pays for all he has taken, and God takes him.

Please remember that the "He" in all this represents all police officers, both men and women who have served and are serving our cities and their citizens we have all sworn to protect.

Blessed are the peace keepers!

I was deployed with Yamil and he was an outstanding soldier and I also met his wife and then small children and Yamil was an excellent father and husband. He cared deeply for his wife and his family and I remeber him talking about after deployment finally getting to do what he aspired to do which was being a Police Officer. He will never be forgotten and God Bless his family.
