Reflections for Patrolman David John Scott

Officer Scott, I am watching your girls get a new house on ABC's Extreme Makeover and I know you are too. What a beautiful family, you must be so proud. This time of year brings fond memories of another LEO friend whose EOW was in November. You are probably great buddies in Heaven patroling the streets of gold. Tell Billy he's missed and thanks to you for your service.......watch our backs....

My wife and I were brought to tears watching the TV episode featuring your family, and feel that their new home couldn't have been given to someone more deserving. You have a beautiful family and hopefully now things become a little less stressful for them. Keep watching over them, you can tell you made a lasting impression on them and are always watching over them.

Rest easy brother in blue and thank you for your service.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the seventh anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

To his wife and children: I hold you in my heart's embrace today and pray for your solace. Trina, thanks for all the work you do for COPS.

POLICE OFFICER
PHILA PA

March 8, 2008

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

David,
I had a dream last night that you were here with me. It was one of those dreams that I didn't want to end. The girls are growing, as I am sure you can see. They are keeping me going, but I wish you were here to share their lives with me. You were taken away from me too soon. Many times I feel empty, but I know you are here. I wrote this poem for you last year on your anniversary, but I am just putting it in here for you. I love you and always will!!!

As I walk through a dark tunnel in my mind, I ask myself what happened to the light that left me behind.
Seeing the good in the world was getting harder everyday, because some crazed lunatic took that light away.
Just one moment in one day has torn apart my house, because I am no longer an officer's wife, I am a surviving spouse.
Our children's lives are now forever changed; I can see it in their faces, Daddy is not here to share in their special occasions.
First day of school, graduation, and wedding day. Does this person know how much he took away?
My husband died a hero, this I know is true; and I can hear him say to me, "I did what I had to do".
Many people often tell me my husband's in a better place. But each and everyday I wish I could touch is lovely face.
Others say he is Heaven where he will hurt no more; so why do I still wait for him to walk through my door.
When you are remembering this fallen police officer,
this heroic man, also remember he was a husband, a father,
and my best friend.
As I walk through the dark tunnel remembering the light the used to be, I know my husband, David, is still watching over me.

Officer David John Scott,
I just returned home from C.O.P.S. Kids Camp 2007 and it was a very difficult ride home for me. Your gorgeous daughter Diedre is largly to blame for that. See Diedre, along with a few others, made a huge impact on me this past week. I knew going into this for the first time that it was not going to be easy to see all of these families trying to make it everyday without their mom, dad or spouse in their lives anymore. BUT, I never expected to fall in love with some of these kids the way that I did. Your daughter Diedre is one of the most amazing kids I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She has a smile that stays with you, a kind giving nature and a heart of gold! Officer Scott you can proudly look down from heaven and know that this little girl of yours has already and will continue to make this world a better place! You and your family will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

May God be with you and your family,
Sincerely Officer Stephanie Thomas GBPD

P.S. please watch over them as they travel home today.....

Cop on the Take

First he takes the oath.

Now look at all he takes.

He takes it in stride when people call him pig.

He takes time to stop and talk to children.

He takes your verbal abuse while giving you a ticket you really deserved.

He takes on creeps you would be afraid to even look at.

He takes time away from his family to keep you safe.

He takes your injured child to the hospital.

He takes the graveyard shift without complaint because it's his turn.

He takes his life into his hands daily.

He takes you home when your car breaks down.

He takes time to explain why both your headlights have to work.

He takes the job no one else wants--telling you a loved one has died.

He takes criminals to jail.

He takes in sights that would make you cry.

Sometimes he cries too, but he takes it anyway because someone has to.

If he is lucky, he takes retirement.

He takes memories to bed each night that you couldn't bear for even one day.

Sometimes, he takes a bullet.

And yes, occasionally he may take a free cup of coffee.

Then one day he pays for all he has taken, and God takes him.

Please remember that the "He" in all this represents all police officers, both men and women who have served and are serving our cities and their citizens we have all sworn to protect.

Blessed are the peace keepers!

Jamie

Patrolman Scott,

May you rest in peace, and god bless you and your family! You should be proud to know that I was fortunate to hear your wife speak at a COPS seminar, and she paints a beautiful picture to a well deserved and earned Patrolman! Thank you for letting all of us learn from her. God be with you and your family.
