Words cannot express the pain that comes with the loss of a fellow Officer and Father.

Officer Henderson, you are a true hero for being on the job each day to protect society from those too violent to walk the streets. Because of your dedication, the world outside that forgets us, could rest easy.

On this, the day of your tragic and unnecessary death, I offer my deepest condolences to your daughter and family, your friends and to those fellow Officers that continue to walk the toughest beat.

Rest in peace Brother, you are not forgotten.

On behalf of Concerns of Police Survivors we regret the loss of yet another man in blue. Thanks to Officer Henderson for his service to his state and community. You will not be forgotton.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and co workers.

Georgia Chapter - Concerns of Police Survivors

The Officer's stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
They hoped their shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as their brass.

"Step forward now, Officers.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The men squared their shoulders and
The Policeman spoke first
"No, Lord, I guess We ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

We've had to work most Sundays,
and at times our talk was rough,
and sometimes we've been violent,
Because the streets are tough.

The Corrections Officer then added,
But we never took a penny,
That wasn't ours to keep...
Though we worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And we never passed a cry for help,
Though at times we shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive us,
We've wept unmanly tears.

Together they say,
We know We don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted us around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for us here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
We never expected or had too much,
But if you don't...We'll understand.

There was silence around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Officers waited quietly,
For the judgment of their God.

"Step forward now, Officers,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

We worked the same shift for many nights and years. The times I would make the transfers to your institution with more inmates we would get a chance to speak briefly. Though 36 miles apart the night your watch ended, all of us felt as if our own flesh and blood brother had been taken away from us. On behalf of all Officers and Staff of the Ga. Dept. of Corrections we send our love and pray for the wellness and healing of your family and daughter my friend. May God be with them and you will never be forgotten.

CORRECTIONAL OFFICER 2 JAMES HENDERSON I AM SORRY TO SEE WE HAVE LOST ANOTHER WARRIOR WITHIN THE WALLS . I ALSO HAVE BEEN A CO FOR 16 YRS ,WE ALL ARE TRAINED THAT 'TO TELL YOUR FAMILY THAT WE MIGHT NOT MAKE IT HOME ONE DAY FROM WORK" I WAS A CO FOR THE GDC AND WAS PROUD TO SERVE THE CITIZENS OF GEORGIA, I HAVE NEVER WORKED AT A MAXIMUM FACILITY , BUT I CAN UNDERSTAND FROM OTHERS WHO HAVE WHAT YOU WENT THRU! FIGHTING FOR YOUR SURVIVAL DAILY, MOST PEOPLE DONT KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS,ONLY A FELLOW CO CAN TRULY UNDERSTAND THIS. I COMMEND YOU TO DO THIS FOR EIGHT YRS MY BROTHER .BUT YOUR JOB IS DONE HERE ON EARTH . GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY, AND I PRAY JUSTICE WILL BE DONE TO YOUR ATTACKER! To Officer Henderson's Family-

I am deeply saddened by hearing of your loss. I too am in the corrections field and understand the fears of the officer and the families.

Officer Henderson served bravely and dutifully in his duties. He was serving his country honorably. Although this does not bring him back, I hope it provides some level of comfort to you.

Again, my deepest sympathy is with your family and the co-workers too.

USPO Justin

My heart goes out to the family of Officer Henderson. I live with this fear everyday and hope that I never have to face it. Officer Henderson you will always be remembered.

Corrections Officer Ryan Bassett

The keepers of the gates are never recognized, heralded or honored, for theirs is a silent service. There is no primetime drama depicting the rightious Correctional Officer, No video game and I challenge anyone to find a positive written word.
The world only knows that someone needs to watch the gates that they themselves can not. The world doesn't appreciate that they are safer at night because the gate keepers are on the job. Only they and those in the know however realize the sacrifice, misery and oftimes horror of working behind the walls.
James Henderson-Correctional Officer Thank you, for giving my kids one more day in the sun, my wife one more safe trip to the store, myself one more reality check.i never met you but I know you. Go easy my brother. Today you are HONORED!

Lt. Dave S. Harney
Hendry County Sheriff's Office

May you rest in peace, my sincere condolences to your family and friends. No one can understand why we wear blue, or know what the risks are...but your family will say goodbye to a true hero, your watch is finished Officer Henderson, thank you and God Bless....

Dear Law Enforcement Family,

I do not know you but I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine what you are going through. I am the wife of a police officer and I pray each night that my husband comes home to me. His last words to me before he leaves for work is, “I love you and I’ll be home.” I pray he is able to keep his word.

God be with you and your family.

My sincere condolences to your family in this trying time. Law enforcement and correctional officers have a difficult and dangerous job -- made even more difficult when a dedicated officer is taken by anotherin a senseless act. May God be with you and your family in the days to come. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

As a former GDC Corrections Officer at Lee Arrendale in the S.M U. and A.L. Burruss C.T.C. and now as a Deputy Sheriff I know the risks Officer Henderson took everyday he put the blue on. GODSPEED Henderson. Your bravery to come to work everyday and then come back the next day to do it all over again w/ the same convicts, is the same bravery a peace officer has except 1 item. You alone are your body armour and weapon. The only weapon you may have is your will to Survive in a world where those around you will do anything for nothing. GDC! GDC! Onward My Christian Soldier....
