Reflections for Officer John Pedro

I didn't know Officer Pedro well, but remember him as a professional officer who was the epitome of the California Highway Patrol. Every time I stop by the CHP office, see the commercial enforcement truck or go to traffic court, I think of him and wish he was still here. Rest in peace, brother.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer. Tonight, June 3, 2003 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Officer John Pedro who died on this date one year ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Pedro's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Dear Law Enforcement Family,

I do not know you but I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine what you are going through. I am the wife of a police officer and I pray each night that my husband comes home to me. His last words to me before he leaves for work is, “I love you and I’ll be home.” I pray he is able to keep his word.

God be with you and your family.

I never had heard of this website until after the man I had been married to was killed in the line of duty 10-3-01. He was a trooper with the N.C. Highway Patrol where I am a dispatcher. I check this website routinely now & there are days that I just cry when I read about the officers & the family & friends they leave behind. My heart & prayers go out to Officer Pedro's family & friends. If you are like me, things may seem to get worse before they start to get better but know there are many people out there who will help in any way they can....if they offer to help, let them. So sorry that another trooper has been taken from us but I'm sure Calvin will show him around the golden streets. May God give you strength & comfort during this tragic time.

I will leave my condolences to all the famillies and friends of these policemen who died for the law enforcement.
Each year is more difficult and dangerous for the policemen.
It is the same situation in our country.
I think it must be now the same situation in all countries.
God bless you, your family and your friends.

A Policeman's Prayer

When I start my tour of duty God wherever crime may be,
As I walk the darkened streets alone, let me be close to Thee.

Please give me understanding with both the young and old.
Let me listen with attention until their story's told.

Let me never make a judgment in a rash or callous way,
but let me hold my patience, let each man have his say.

Lord, if some dark and dreary night, I must give up my life. Lord, with your understanding love,
protect my children and wife.
