Reflections for Border Patrol Agent Roberto Javier Duran

Roberto,
I'm here in Charleston at the academy and I got to thinking about all of my classmates. I still remember how much you helped us rocks with our spanish, even though it took time away from your own sudying. You were a class act and are missed.

We just finished the 4th annual 5K Border Fun Run in your honor and it keeps getting bigger and better. Your impressions on us will never dull. We can look into the faces of your children and see the same love and compassion that defines you.

You are having an affect on so many people that never met you personally, but get to experience your family and friends through this annual event. Keep looking out for us from way above, it is our comfort and our strength.

Robert, it has been several years since you left us, and I can honestly say that losing you affected me. You were the first Agent I knew personally who died, and it really made me sad. To this day, I tell a story about you to other Agents, describing your conviction to the job, regardles of who is telling you otherwise. To this day, I honor your memory, and continue to miss you as a fellow hard-working Agent, and friend. I miss you.

On this day three years ago, the Lord called two servants home, one from the U.S. Border Patrol and one from the Chattanooga Police Department.
While their tour of duty may be over, ours continues in their memory.

May 6, 2005

Bob, after the years have gone by I still miss your uncanny ability to make the best of any situation and to ensure that you got the best out of everybody.
Working with you was always something I would look forward to. I know I'm a better person for having the pleasure of knowing you. God Bless

To along time friend,
Rob, knowing your was special, you could alway be counted on to make people laugh during the worst underway periods or the best port visits. The Border Patrol family and the rest of us lost a special person and a close friend. Your memories will live with us always. God bless my friend. Fair winds and following seas may the winds fill your sails and the sun shine on your face forever. Rest in peace my friend.

From the time we met you enthusiasm and dedication to duty more than impressed me. That dedication will inspire Agents young and old as they see your name and read the things you have done to try and make this country better. I hope to complete some of the things which you were unable to complete, Rest in Peace knowing that there are those of us that will finish what you started.

To the family,
I think of you often as I pass by your old apartment, here one of his favorite songs, or see something that we used to talk about. I pray you have the strength to live the life Roberto envisioned for you. There are so many of us; friends, classmates, coworkers, who will always be there for you. Never think that Roberto's sacrifice was in vain. Years from now, we will continue to reflect on his outstanding work ethic and family values. He was, and is, an inspiration to us all.

Roberto,
I will never forget the mornings, waiting to get cut after the long midnight shift on the border. Those are the memories I will always hold dear. Good luck, and God Bless, my brother. You've served your time. Thank you.

Special Agent David Gaucher
U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services

I remember the first night I worked with you on desk; all you could say is "i'm the nugget here". Well, with your enthusiasm and knowledge you didn't act like a trainee or a "nugget", you took charge by completing casework that no one could figure out. You were the first to respond to sensors or calls for service. You might of sounded a little fast on the radio but it was your personality; get the job done.
America can be proud that you served the country in a very noble way. Not many people would have the courage to protect our border that is in such turmoil. You can stand proud as a true warrior.

May god bless you, my brother.
