Reflections for Police Officer Julie Rochelle Jacks

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the family, coworkers, and community of Chatanooga regarding the loss of Officer Jacks. I myself lost my Aunt in a similar fashion on July 26 1996(Deputy Sheriff Sherry Goodman). There isn't anything that can ease your pain but strong support from everyone from family, coworkers, and the citizens, but mostly from God. We allowed our tragic situation to damage what was a very strong family. Only now years later have we begun to recover as a family. Please don't do as I did and hold it in and use your anger as a outlet to the pain. While i will always carry the memory with me I have made great strides to dealing with our pain. I now patrol my aunts old district and see her memorial many times during the night. This may be of little comfort but my sgt read the terrible news at roll call today and your tragedy has opened alot of eyes on my shift. We haven't lost an officer in over a year and we(myself included) were begining to get complacent and overconfident. I know you will soon be overwhelmed with cards and emails but I would like to offer my help to the family and officers as i have seen a line of duty death as a family member and an officer. For your officers I am a member of our departments Critical Incident Stress Management Team and our debriefing team. If anyone would like to talk with me I welcome the oppourtunity to help. Our prayers are with you all.

"This is my shield.
I bear it before me into battle,
but it is not mine alone.
It protects my brother on my left.
It protects my city.
I will never let my brother
out of its shadow
nor my city out of its shelter.
I will die with my shield before me
facing the enemy."

I was asked Tuesday after hearing the news about Officer Jacks if hearing about officers being killed in the line of duty pushed me away from wanting to be an officer. My response to that person was no, it only makes me want to be an officer even more... to prevent at least one other person from being killed. I would rather put myself in danger to protect someone else and that's what Officer Jacks did, not only on that day, but every day she was on the force. Officer Jacks, you will forever be a hero. To her family, friends, and co-workers, I know my words won't ease your aching any, but I still offer my condolences. To her fiance, another officer, may God keep you safe as you carry on protecting the community. May God Bless you all.

To Julie's family, friends and the Chattanooga Police Department, I want to express to all of you my deepest sympathy and assure you, that all of you are in my prayers every day.
You can be very proud of Julie, I never had the opportunity to meet her, but I know that she was very dedicated to her "watch" and she gave the ultimate sacrific for her community and the people she served.
The days ahead are going to be extremely hard for everyone, but hang on, one of these days everything will be "made right".
God bless each one of you and may God keep you always in his care.

God saw she was getting tired,
A cure was not to be
So He put His arms around her
And whispered "come with me."

With tearful eyes we watched her suffer,
And saw her fade away.
Although we loved her dearly,
We could not make her stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hands were put to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Answering the Call

Another day has come and gone and the thin
blue line has become a bit thinner.
Another sister has been lost in the line of duty
because of some crazed sinner.

The calls were dispatched one by one just like
they were on any other day.
This Officer responded with courage, guts and honor
as she went along her way.

Not knowing what lay in wait or whom she was about to meet.
Just answering the call of someone in need at Vine Avenue and Kilmer Street.

The call was answered just like all the others and her response was exactly the same.
“I’m en-route to answer the call.” There never
was anyone to blame.

Each call was completed with pride, joy and honor.
These traits exuded her soul.
This was her last call as her life was senselessly taken.
Her family is now left with a tremendous whole.

The law enforcement family must pick up the pieces
and continue to answer every call.
Not knowing when the next one shall suffer the same
and incur the very same fall.

You’ve finished the race well. You’ve given it all.
You’ve done your very best and answered your last call.

Now your assignment and beat in heaven has
changed just a bit.
So spread out those arms while your new
angel wings are fit.

Hold your head high and spread those wings wide
We know you’re protecting and standing right by our side.

You were called home and you’ve been assigned a
new beat from your heavenly Father God.
Protecting those in uniform left behind in green, brown,
and blue, as we continue to fight the battle each day
that we trod.

You will never be forgotton Julie, It brakes my heart to visit the site and see another fallen sister leave us her wondering why. You are a true hero to all of us that wear the uniform. Your passing will never be in vain, you only strengthen our resolve.

Julie stopped a vehicle for me a week before her death. I will never forget her enthusiasm for being a cop. This was a job that she loved and it showed.
Police officers are like troops in an army who march off to battle every day. They fight a never ending battle and do so with pride and courage. Julie, you performed your duties as a true warrior and did so with pride and courage. Rest easy sister.

OFFICER JACKS WAS A MEMBER OF A SPECIAL FAMILY. A FAMILY OF POLICE OFFICERS, E.M.S.AND FIRE SERVICE PERSONNEL. SHE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BY THOSE OF US IN HER FAMILY WHO ARE LEFT BEHIND BY HER TRAGIC LOSS. AS A FORMER POLICE OFFICER AND MEMBER OF BOTH EMS AND FIRE SERVICE. I SEND MY SINCEREST SYMPHATHY TO THE FAMILY AND HER DEPARTMENT. MAY GOD WATCH OVER, AND BE WITH THEM IN THEIR TIME OF NEED.

When I come to this page, it very little, I found a officer who only worked in Law Enforcement, for only 2 years. I have been in the NYPD for 15 years, its the best!! All the officers are the best!! Looks like in your picture, you are holding an award, looks like you worked hard for it!! RIP!!

Sgt. Matthew Raymond-- Shield: 2456
NYPD

I work at a hospital in Chattanooga and I saw Officer Jacks several times and she was always very nice and very courteous. My heart is broken for her and her family. I wish I could have known her better. She is hero to us all and I cannot say thank you enough to her for giving up her life to protect us. She was my age and it is very hard to see a young life taken this way. God had a plan for her and her work now is in Heaven. Thank you Julie.
