It has been two years now since Tom's death. His memory is alive and well here at SPD. His friends and family should know that his death was not the end. His memory fuels us to become warriors and fight the good fight. We carry on and think of him often...

Remembering you on the 2nd anniversary of your death. May God
comfort all those who are still grieving your passing. Life is difficult at
times and the Lord Jesus wants to help carry our burdens. He gives us
many beautiful promises in His Word to help us through our valleys. I
pray you will feel His presence and know His peace. Thank you for your

Wow! Such nice comments! It is now a year later after your death and I understand that that is not enough time to heal the wound your leaving left. I ask our Lord and Savior to comfort all of those still grieving with His compassion and His peace. What a wonderful person and what a wonderful legacy he has left behind. You can be very proud of him and his life well-lived in such a short span. God bless!!

You gave the ultimate sacrifice. You may be gone, but you will NEVER be forgotten. We are all family in this job, sometimes we are the only family each other has. In pace requiescat, Rest in peace! Keep a watch on the rest of us as we go on shift each day.

My prayers are with your family. I lost my husband in the line of duty 3 days before you lost yours. We all loose a loved one when an officer dies because we are all family. May God be with you.

As an instructor, I am deeply saddened by accidents that occur during training. These are accidents that took the life of a loved one, friend, co-worker. But God has a purpose for these fine HERO'S. May they sit upon thrones of gold and serve him, for no harm will come unto them now. RIP BROTHERS/SISTERS.

On behalf of the entire Mesa Police Department, we send our best wishes and prayers to the family and friends of Sgt. Tom Hontz. Tom was a true hero, a man who wore his badge with pride and served his community with honor and respect. His sacrafice will never be forgotten. Though we will continue to serve in his absence, our hope is that he will be forever watching over us. Thank you Sgt. Hontz for your dedication and courage. May we all strive to be the type of police officer you were. Your memory will be with us forever. May God bless you and your family.

Officer Jody McInnis
Mesa Police Department, AZ

To the Family and Friends of Sgt. Tom Hontz and to The Scottsdale Police Dept:

Being an officer on the street puts all of us in extreme danger. But being a SWAT Officer, everytime you go on a call, you take the ultimate risk. Respect for SWAT as they are "the elite of the elite". Sgt. Hontz was at the top! He will be remembered for the honor, fearlessness and greatness that he portrayed!

I was a Hostage Negotiator with our agency for 11+ years and worked very closely with our SWAT Team. The hardships of training, and the callouts are very vigorous, not to mention the long hours at callout sites. The reward of having all of us go home safely at the end of the call, and the safe resolution to the incident is the ultimate reward.

After hearing of what an excellent and dedicated Officer Sgt Hontz was, he is probably organizing another elite team in Heaven!

Those Brothers and Sisters that have gone to Heaven before us are making us stronger here on earth. We will strive to live by their high standards. And we will never forget them.

Rest in Peace Sgt. Thomas Hontz.

Thank you for all you did for me and the confidence you had in me from the day I was on the street alone 15 years ago. I know some of the field training opportunites came about because of you. I thank you. Thank you for taking care of business each time I called and need your assistance along with others on the swat team when a search warrant was being done. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and thank you for listening to my thoughts thru out the years....We will greatly miss you. God Bless you and may your days now all be joyful! Always your friend, MJ

On behalf of the men and woman of the East Providence Police Department I extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Sgt. Hontz and to the Scottsdale PD. We recently experienced a similar tragedy with the loss of Captain Alister McGregor to an accidental shooting during a SWAT training exercise on December 27, 2001. Everyone here feels your pain and is praying for you and for the family. If we can assist you in any way, please call us anytime. God Bless!

Police Chief Gary P. Dias

My deepest condolences to Officer Hontz's family. Courages men and women such as Officer Hontz put on their uniform everyday and go out to protect the innocent. They are innocents themselves but unselfishly are willing to put their lives on the line. These people are called heros. Officer Hontz is a true hero and will be remembered as such.

I was very saddened to hear of the accident of Officer Hontz our prayers go out to his family and all the other Officers that work with him. We will pray for all your safety. God Bless The Faith Family

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family, friends, and fellow officers. God Bless You and grant us all peace.

From what I have read Sergeant Tom Hontz is the kind of man I would follow into battle any day. His loss is the first Scottsdale has had to suffer, and shall never be forgotten. His family and friends have much to be thankful for, as Tom will be your guardian angel for eternity.
