Reflections for Police Officer Michael T. Scanlon

Mike
Everyday I wake up and the first thing I put on is a bracelet that bears your name. I carry you with me as a constant reminder of your sacrifice and that your family carries on without you. God bless your family as they carry on and thank you for watching over us.

I remembered that day so well. I was the sergeant on the desk the day Michael called on the radio for help. I remember this event so well. Mike was an good officer. Above all he was an outstanding person. No one can imagine the terror in our hearts knowing we lost one of our own and how it happened. The guy took Mikes scout care to drive himself to the hospital, leaving Mike behind. I know vey few can appreciate my officers and the work they performed that night and the assistance we received. I never had a chance to thank all and the officers that came to work early to assist. Thank you all. Till this date I think of that those events of 2002.

My faithful servant.
You were called upon to serve others.
You were asked to see, what no man should ever have to see.
To go through, what no man should ever have to go through.
But you did so with pride, honor, and integrity.

My faithful servant.
You were called upon to defend those, who could not defend themselves.
To provide justice to those, who did not respect it.
To lay down your life, if the time called for it.
Again, you did not question what was asked of you.
You did it with love, compassion, and loyalty.

My faithful servant.
In times of adversity, you prayed for strength.
In times of triumph, you praised your Lord.
You served your Country, State, and city proud.
Your service will forever be remembered by the many lives you’ve touched.

My faithful servant.
When your service on this earth is finally complete.
I will welcome you home with open arms.
I will embrace you and proclaim,
“Well done thou good and faithful servant.”

Rest in peace my brother...you will never be forgotten.

I was only 5 years old when i witnessed this happened, i came up stairs when i heard all the commotion. I did not listen as i was told to stay downstairs and i followed them out the backdoor and into the backyard, where i seen everything. In such shock i ran inside and didn't say a word, i didn't know what to do. You are a hero to me and this country. I respect you and anybody in a uniform with all I got. Rest in peace Michael, God Bless your family.

11 years this afternoon we said goodbye......
11 years this evening we shared our last meal.......
11 years tonight we lost you.............

11 years have passed but you are not forgotten. Our children are growing up quicker than I'd like. They are strong, kind, loving, smart, intensely loyal, and sweet. They are the joys of my life.

Thank you for watching over them when I cannot.
We love and miss you!

Thank you family and brothers of officer Scanlon. I had the pleasure of meeting Officer Scanlon one day as I stopped by the eighth, he's the first person I ever met and became a friend to immediately. He even drove my classic car that day. I was so hurt when the city of Detroit lost officer Scanlon. He was truly one of our jewels.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the tenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your family for shariing their devotion through their reflections. To his mom, I share your anguish in losing a beloved child which surely has to be life's greatest sorrow.

Rest In Peace
