Reflections for Police Officer Dennis Joseph McNamara

Dennis I still can not believe this has happened to you. I wish I would have told you in person that I appreciate some of the things I learned from you while serving in the First Platoon together. I hope you know I really respected you as a cop even when I was being a smartass.
And thanks for the favor you did for me I didnt forget.

I started my career as a Lower Makefield Township Police Explorer in neighboring Bucks County, and wanted to extend my utmost sympathy to the family and friends of Officer McNamara.

C.J. Rusk, Deputy Sheriff (Patrol Div.)
Dare County Sheriff's Office (NC)

I am sorry for the loss of your friend, son, and husband. It is sad when someone who protects and fights for the lives of so many dies while performing that duty. For that he will always be a hero. My Heartfelt Sympathies For everyone who knew this great man. Although I may not have ever have known or have met him it hits very close to home.
So Dennis, You are OUR HERO.

DJ

As a daughter of a retired Upper Darby Police Officer I offer up to God my prayers for Officer Dennis McNamara, his wife and children. Your husband and father will never be forgotten. Faith and love and hope will help heal us all.

Dennis,
We were hired together, went to the academy together, and sworn in together. We worked together for 8+ years. We had good times and bad but we always had time together. You are a great man and a great cop. You are loved and you will be deeply missed. The one thing I will miss the most is knowing you had my back. There is a void in the hearts of your fellow officers that cannot be filled. I am honored to have known you and called you my friend.

Highway Patrolman John J. Callahan
Upper Darby Police

It always saddens me to hear of another officer down. I never met you but I feel the pain your death has caused. My prayers go out to all our fallen officers. My prayers are also with your family. Watch over your brother officers, you may be gone but not forgotten.

God Bless you Dennis and may you watch over all of us now.

Officer Chris Eiserman
Folcroft Police Dept.

Dear Dennis,

Words alone cannot express how we feel now that you have gone onto Protect us from up in Heaven. Our Hearts are heavy with grief and sorrow and we know as time moves on we will continue to remember all the good that you brought to each and every police officer and citizen that had the good fortune to know and work with you. You have made the ultimate sacrifice that any human being could ever make, and that was to give your life to protect others. We will always keep a light burning in our Hearts and Minds as a reminder of your sacrafice.

For those of you who did not know Dennis personally, let us tell you what kind of person he was, so you to can know how it was to work with and know him.

Dennis came on the job after some of us and he brought with him the same desire we all had when we staretd. Dennis kept that alive in us by his daily actions in the job. He could snoop and sniff out things that would ultimately turn into good arrest. He would go the extra mile in the job and it reflected in his numerous commendations and letters of thanks in his file.

If you ever needed something accomplised, you knew who to go to.

Having Dennis as your BackUp was a relief, because he had a nack for letting you know you were on the right track when the hairs would stand up on the back of your neck. You could not ask for anything more in a cop.

Dennis' dedication to the job was a reminder to all of us, why we do what we do.

Not only has the department suffered a great loss, but all of Law Enforcement has suffered another great loss. The loss of a Good and Decent Person.

We will have a hard time filling this void and we ask all of you to pray for GOD'S strength for Dennis' wife and children and for all Police Officers still on the job.

Sometimes our job is a thankless one but I know that it is the only one where you could meet a guy like Dennis McNamara. He really did make a difference in the world.

We will miss you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours my brother, please keep an eye on us down here.......

**God's First Police Officer**

In darkness silence of the night,
when all appeared safe and secure.
What this officer had no way of knowing,
he was beginning his shift of last tour.

Should have been a routine traffic stop,
he requested them not to exit their car.
However they had nothing left to lose,
and the shots could be heard from afar.

Things then became so very personal,
as his lifeless body lay on the ground.
Then you heard the words that stand still,
start me a rescue unit, Officer down.

A mist of glow befell upon the scene,
and the Archangel in spiritual radiance shown.
Watching over those in the uniform of blue,
they are his charges, children of the throne.

While you never took the time to meet him,
our heavenly Father knows them all by name.
Their honor, integrity, courage and pride.
though none ever sought any glorious fame.

On bended knee, his head bowed low,
through tears that had come and gone.
Michael gathered this Officer in his arms,
slowly begin the Ascension's journeys on.

There at heaven's magnificent gate,
was God, waiting for this soul to embrace
"Welcome home my son, my first Police Officer,
come now and walk with me in eminent grace".

As it is a loss when any brother of sister in blue is taken from the ranks, this loss is hard because it is the loss of a friend. Having known Dennis for 8 years, both while as a Paramedic, and fellow Police Officer, he was always willing to lend that helping hand, or watch my back. Dennis was a great officer, and a good friend. As a resident of Upper Darby Twp., and as a fellow Law Enforcement Officer, Ofc. Dennis McNamara will be fondly remembered, and sorely missed. All the prayers of my family go to the family of Ofc. Dennis McNamara, and to his family at UDPD.

Malvern Boro Police Dept.

God bless this hero, his family, friends, and his department in this tough time. I give my deepest sympathy as a fellow cop and Reservist.

Baltimore City Police

I didn't know officer McNamara personally, but I do know some of his fellow officers and I did used to live in the township. I feel pain and sympathy for his family. No one should have to go through this . Police officers are never treated with the respect they deserve and they certainly don't receive the pay that they should. They do it because they want to and that makes them heroes from the start.

MAY GOD BLESS THIS OFFICERS FAMILY AND HIS ALTERNATE FAMILY IN BLUE. WE DO A JOB THAT NOT MANY PEOPLE IN THE JUDICIAL OR GOVERNMENT AGENCIES WOULD BECAUSE IT MEANS GIVING YOUR ALL FOR ANYONE AND WE EXPECT NOTHING IN RETURN EXCEPT A THANK YOU IF POSSIBLE. THIS DEFENDANT HAS AN EXTENSIVE RECORD AND WAS STILL ON THE STREET DUE TO THE LENIENT SENTENCES HE WAS GIVEN BY THE JUDGES HE APPEARED BEFORE. THIS WAS AN OUT AND OUT ACT OF A COWARD AND WE PRAY THAT WHEN HE FINALLY MEETS HIS MAKER HE WILL THEN BE MADE TO PAY THE ULTIMATE PRICE FOR ALL HIS CRIMES.
OFFICER MACNAMARA IS NOW WITH THE LEGION OF SAINT MICHAEL AND WILL NEVER MORE FEEL PAIN OR SORROW.

P/O PAUL D KELLY SR RET.
PHILADELPHIA, POLICE DEPT.

Our Hero, Our Cop. Officer Dennis McNamara #121

Criminals would look at him and sneer,
For he pursued them without fear.
He would work the streets day and night,
Chasing evil with unrelenting might.
Robbery, burglary, or even a stolen car,
He would chase you til you were caught no matter how far.
His work made the community a safer place to be,
Because he caught all of them even those who tried to flee.
His endless fight against crime,
Would take him before his time.
That's why on January 30th our hearts would drop,
We lost our Hero, our Cop.

"In the high heavens,
The ageless places,
The gods are wringing their great worn hands,
For their watchman is away, their world
Creaking and cracking....

Who will dust the cobwebbed kingdoms now?
For our lawgiver lies below his people,
Bigger bones of a better kind,
Unwarped by their weight, as white as limestone
Under green grass,
The grass that fades."

I remember that night clearly. I heard the general broadcast go out for the man who had shot you. I was saddened to hear that you had passed. And while I never even knew you, or had the pleasure of meeting you, I am forever touched by your loyalty and courage. Rest in Peace now brother. You will not be forgotten.
