Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Dennis Joseph McNamara

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am the song that will never end.
I am the love of family and friend.
I am the child who has come to rest
In the arms of the Father who knows him best.

When you see the sunset fair,
I am the scented evening air.
I am the joy of a task well done.
I am the glow of the setting sun.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

Thank you for your service to the community.
My prayers are with you and your family.

Upper Darby resident

To the McNamara family & Upper Darby Police Dept, I would just like say how sorry I am for your loss. As a lifelong resident of the Twp and a Police Officer this hits home. I met Dennis on a vehicle stop in 1996 when I was working in Millbourne Boro. I talked to Dennis for about 10 minutes and felt as if I knew him for 10 Years. From that point on I knew if his squad was working that I could count on seeing that UDPD van pulling up in my rear view mirror, just to make sure I was ok on my stop. To Dennis's family stay strong through the prosecution of this animal, I know the Upper Darby Police Dept as well as the law enforcement community throughout the country will suport you. God Bless You

Dennis was an Officer every Officer would like to be. He was respected, dedicated, and one of the most honest and professional Officers you will ever meet. I am one of the lucky Officers to have known Dennis. I did not work with him in his department but he was always around to back me up along with other Officers from Upper Darby. Dennis's death is a tragedy. My sorrow is with his family and his extended family at the Upper Darby Police Department.

As a lifelong resident of Upper Darby, I cant ever remember a darker hour. I never thought that this could happen in my town, to the men and women that I know and see each day. I always had the highest respect for our officers but now it is respect that I cant even describe. Each day you watch over us and help us, some appreciate you and some do not, but always know how much this resident appreciates you! Words can not express this loss, My thoughts and prayers are with Diane and her children, and also the Upper Darby Police Department. Thank you Dennis!

Dennis,
I was there when you lay on a rain soaked street;
as good a cop any could meet.
I was there when the Doctor said there was no hope;
and seemed we could not cope.
I was there when your wife asked why;
and the only answer was to look up high.
I was there when your children came in;
and wondered what a sin.
I WILL BE THERE to answer the next the call;
for your name will never fall.

Dennis,

I only had the pleasure in talking to you on a few occasions, but I never told you that I appreciated what you and the rest of the Upper Darby Police officers were doing to keep our neighborhoods safe for our families.
So, Thank you Bro, May God Bless you!

My deepest sympathies to Ofc. McNamara's family, and fellow officers. Although I never really knew him well, I was familiar with him from working in that area. To all my fellow brothers in UDPD, you all stood by me in a time of need, rest assured, Ofc. McNamara will be standing by yours now. Stay safe.

Dear Officer Dennis McNamara ,

I'm deeply saddened to hear of your death.I grew up in Upper Darby and was taught to respect and honor all of Upper Darby's Police officers. I did take my "Pride In Blue" very seriously.

Officer Dennis- you helped my family survive the unexpected loss of Officer Tony Tonzola #104 UDPD. Thank You for standing by my family as his color guard.We will remember you always.

You were a wonderful, decorated officer who took much pride in Upper Darby's finest unit.You will be saddly missed by all.

You are a true HERO forever.

You will never be forgotten.

God bless you and your family always,

Tracy Valeriano ( Tony Tonzola's daughter)

POLICEMAN'S PRAYER

Walk with him tonight Dear Lord
Along each darkened street
Walk with him tonight Dear lord
Along his lonely beat
Keep him happy through the night
And please make sure he's warm
And guide him to a sheltering door
In case there comes a time a storm
And let him know
Though he's not here
My prayers are free from fright
Because, Dear Lord ,I, know so well
You're on his beat tonight

Dennis, I am very proud to have served with you.

Although I did not know you personally, my sister knew you. Since January 30, 2002 my sister and I have talked about you constantly and all she can ever talk about is what good things, you have done for the community and how much you are willing to help another person out. It was a tragic day for Upper Darby Township and I would like to send condolences from the entire firehouse. We wish that you will continue to protect the community and give your fellow officer’s an angel on their shoulder. It is with great difficulty that I write these words. Dennis you were a friend and coworker. I fondly remember our tours together when I first hit the street. If not for you I would not have broken my nose just 11 days after starting on the street, or had the determination to see jobs through to the end. I still remember the night we stopped home and your daughter's, she was about 4 years old, determined march to the Dairy Queen for ice cream. Your family always came first. I will miss some of the conversations we had about all sorts of things. Memories are nice, but having you still with us would be better. Please watch over all of us and just keep backing us up. Rest in Peace Dennis, you have earned it.
