Reflections for Police Officer Dennis Joseph McNamara

I firmly believe that police officers are special agents of God... and Officer McNamara was needed with his superior. He shall go on patrolling from above and guide us and keep us safe... just as he did here on earth. God Bless all emergency personnel and the families & friends who worry about their safety each and every time these brave souls take to our streets. Be strong McNamara family.... you will be with him again.Peace.

a person who truly appreciates

Dennis,

This has been very hard for all of us. You left us doing what you did best..."stirring something up". I can remember when you trained me like it was yesterday. If I close my eyes I can still see you looking down at my shiny shoes and telling me to "get myself a nice pair of boots. You're not gonna chase anyone down with those shoes on". I fondly remember breaking them boots in on foot in the Parketeria looking for a stolen car. I'll never forget that smirk you would get on your face like you knew something that the rest of us did'nt. When we meet again someday you can fill me in. You're resting now and I will never forget you. We will never forget you.

My prayers and thoughts are with the McNamara family and U.D.P.D. Thank you for your service Officer McNamara. Rest in peace.

Yesterday was the funeral for Officer McNamara. The show of love and respect for a fellow officer was overwhelming. I have always been proud to be a part of the UDPD family but never have I been more proud then I was yesterday.
Dennis was an incredible man both at home and on the street. Since this awful event took place, the outpouring of support for Dennis and his family has been incredible. Dennis touched so many lives. He will forever be in our hearts. The world is a better place because Dennis was in it. God bless you.

Yesterday was the funeral for Officer Dennis McNamara. It was a beautiful and honorable send off for a beautiful and honorable man. God bless you, Dennis, and please watch over your family and the rest of the UDPD. You are forever in our hearts. God willing, this will be the last funeral we have to go to for an Upper Darby Police officer. I will never forget that night or yeesterday when we laid you to rest. You will never be forgotten, and we will take care of Diane, Spike and Melissa.
Dennis, your death will not be in vain.

Although I only knew Officer Dennis McNamara on a professional level, I can say that I am honored to have known him in any capacity at all. Dennis was always a pleasure to talk to and deal with on the radio or on the telephone. He never had an unkind word to say and always made sure that he got the job done, no matter what. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to his family and the Upper Darby Police Department. We all lost a truly great man. January 30th, 2002 will never leave my mind for as long as I live. And Dennis will not either. And to the Upper Darby Police Department, please be safe. You all make me proud to work with you and know that you protect all of us in the Township of Upper Darby. God Bless you all.

Dennis, may you rest in peace.....you deserve it.

UDPD is FOREVER CHANGED...
A family is FOREVER CHANGED...
..because of a cold, heartless beast with vicious intent.

Whatever we can CHANGE for the BETTER will be a wonderful tribute to the memory of Dennis McNamara and what he stood for during his life.

Thank You Dennis! We'll see you again!

I would like to send my condolences to the family and friends of Dennis McNamara. I am a native of Upper Darby and previously served with the SEPTA Transit Police Department. While there I had the pleasure of meeting Dennis while stationed at the 69th street terminal. I have friends with the Upper Darby Police Department, and know Dennis will be sorely missed. I am sorry for your loss.

Though I did not have a privilege to meet you, after speaking with many of your co-workers it would have been an honor.

May the road rise up to meet you,
may the wind be always at your back,
may the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rain fall soft upon your fields,
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of his hands.

God Bless your family and friends.

Some people come into our lives
and quickly go,
Some stay for awhile,
touch our hearts,
and we are never, ever the same.

Rest easy now, Dennis. May GOD bless your family and friends.

I had met Officer McNamara only on a few brief occassions when I had the chance to be present in Upper Darby District Court,, yet the impression he left on me is one which will remain there for the rest of my life. In those brief meetings, it was immediately noticible that he had all the qualities and attributes my father had told me were needed to distinguish a good cop from a great cop - honesty, integrity, fairness, compassion, humbleness, integrity, respect - an overall true love of blue. To see that Officer McNamara was all of these in a few short encounters is what truly distinguished him as a great cop.

Don't Forget Your Blue Ribbons -- author Unknown
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond's glint on the snow
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain
I am the gentle autum's rain
When you waken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds circled in flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand on my grave and cry
I am not there. I did not die

He will never be forgotten....

I've lived in Upper Darby all my life. Today was by far one of the saddest. I just returned from the Memorial Service for Officer McNamara, the first, Hopefully the last, in Upper Darby for an Officer killed in the line of duty. I really didn't know Dennis, I've said hello in the neighborhood if I saw him. As I do all our fine officers. But I didn't know him. I see that that was my loss. God Bless you Dennis, your wife Diane, and children, Spike and Melissa. I didn't know you, but I miss you. As will the whole community of Upper Darby Twp.

Citizen Charles Jones

Just last year two of our departments officers were killed in the line of duty. I understand what your agency is going through and my prayers are with your department and the officers family members. It is one of the hardest things a police officer can hear, when they call out officer down. Please be strong and god bless all.

Deputy Sheriff Eric Godman
Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Dept.

My personal prayers and thanks go out to Dennis and his family. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

This is a terrible loss for all. My father, Nick D'Alessandro, is an officer of the Yeadon PD and he is also a friend of Officer McNamara. I pray that the families of all fallen police officers be safe and secure. My apologies to all those who have been hurt and will be hurt in the future. All are in my prayers, especially my dada.

Beth D'Alessandro

On a personal level, I would like to express my condolances and sympathies to the McNamara family, on the loss of their son, brother, husband, father and friend. Dennis was taken too soon for any of us. Dennis was a policeman's police officer and a friend and hero to the residents of Upper Darby Township. We will miss you and love you, Dennis.
