Reflections for Police Officer Frederick L. Richards

Galveston has suffered another Category 4 Storm. Many have lost their lives in the East Texas area. But thank GOD it's not as bad as in your day.

What's so sad is, it WAS so bad in your day. Thank you for your service and may you forever Rest in Peace, Brother.

Recently, this country experienced a spate of natural disasters; an earthquake on the east coast, the latest hurricane and Texas is suffering through a huge brush fire.

Natural disasters are a way of life that must be dealt with head on. Today we are blessed to have radar and various other early warning devices that allow us to prepare for what is coming. In 1900, these devices weren’t even a thought.

Think how, if we knew then what we know now, this brave Police Officer might have been able to live out his days to retirement. However, it was not meant to be and the City of Galveston lost four brave men and countless others.

To the people of Galveston, I say, bravo to you for your courage and tenacity to hold on. On this anniversary of his ultimate sacrifice I say to the brave Officer Richards and his brethren who died as a result of that storm, I say, God Bless you and may you forever Rest in Peace, Brother.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 109th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
