Kelly you will always be missed, you gave your all to help honor, protect and serve those in Missouri. You made a difference in the lives you touched, you are greatly missed. No words can truely describe the unselfish sacrifices you made. May you always be honored as the hero you truly were. Taken from us to soon , the world still had so much to learn from you.Always missed NEVER forgotten! #1191

Kelly,
I wish more than anything that I could learn about your life from you but I can't. I have to listen to stories about you and read articles about you. I know that there is a reason for everything but sometimes it is so hard to understand. What kid should not get to know who their uncle was like but then I feel selfish because I am just a neice not your son. Even though I don't remeber meeting you I can say I love you because you are living in your kids.
Love you,

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 9th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect. I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Rest In Peace

Missing my friend during the holidays.

December 27, 2009

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

Trooper Poynter,
On today, the 7th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of Missouri. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. 120 days sure doesn't seem fair for a person's life.

We once owned a towing company and saw many accidents attributed to drunk driving. I have zero tolerance for it. Sorry your life ended this way. Justice
will be executed perfectly one day, just not here.

Six years have passed since your EOW and I know those that love your dearly think of you every day. The individual that caused all this pain received a slap on the hand, I hope that she has to remember every day what she has done to those left behind that love you dearly. A drunk driver also took our Blue Angel, but in our situation the individual that caused our pain also lost his life. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones, wrap your wings around them and help them with their grief. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Kelly,

I cannot believe how much time has gone by. I seen Kaleb driving a while back. He looks just like you, grin and all. Keep watch over the guys.

I came to Kelly's memorial today after Greene County Missouri lost a deputy in a motor vehicle accident. I met Kelly once in Van Buren through a close friend who is also a trooper. I hope everyone else remembers him as I do; as a hero. In his final actions, he gave his life so that others would survive. That's a hero in the truest definition. 120 days for the person who murdered him defies all logic. Thank you for your service to our state sir. We will never forget.

Earthly justice may have been lacking but we all will have to answer to the Highest Judge one day.May you Rest in Peace and may Our Lord bless your loved ones.

It is upsetting that your life was only worth 120 days. Laws need to be changed to protect not only officers but everyone from drunk drivers. If she had used a gun, she would have been given life but for some reason, killing someone with your car is different. Your sons are going to grow up without you and that is worth more than 120 days. You died doing what you loved and I thank you for your service. Rest in peace.

My thoughts are with your loved ones on this 5th anniversary of your end of watch. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol. Justice was never served in your case, the individual that caused all the pain and suffering to those loved ones left behind that live each day without you will never know what they are going through. I hope he has to think about what he did every day for the rest of his life.

To Trooper Poynter, we all mourn the lose of a law enforcement officer but even more we mourn the justice system that apparently died when your killer was released after only 120. I as a Trooper have seen many bad accidents caused by drunk drivers and they normally have been convicted previously. More importantly, know that our thoughts and prayers are with your family and to your brothers on the highway.

As a Missouri resident and an attorney, I am appauled to see that the convict was released after 120 days. But more importantly as sister/brother-in-law of Jonathan Dragus EOW 10/20/05, please allow us to express that Trooper Poynter and what he stood for will never be forgotten. Our prayers are with your family.
