Reflections for Major Alister C. McGregor

always on my mind

November 10, 2003

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME
MY NAME FOR ALL ETERNITY
RECORDED HERE AT THIS HALLOWED PLACE
ALAS, MY NAME, NO MORE MY FACE

" IN THE LINE OF DUTY" I HEAR THEM SAY
MY FAMILY NOW THE PRICE WILL PAY
MY FOLDED FLAG STAINED WITH THEIR TEARS
WE ONLY HAD THOSE FEW SHORT YEARS

THE BADGE NO LONGER ON MY CHEST
I SLEEP NOW IN ETERNAL REST
MY SWORD I PASS TO THOSE BEHIND
AND PRAY THEY KEEP THIS THOUGHT IN MIND

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME
AND WITH HEAVY HEART AND BENDED KNEE
I ASK FOR ALL HERE FROM THE PAST
DEAR GOD, LET MY NAME BE THE LAST
Please say a prayer for all of our law enforcement officers across the nation.

“May his badge and all it stands for shine brightly throughout eternity”

There's a tear in your eye, And I'm wondering why, For it never should be there at all. With such power in your smile, Sure a stone you'd beguile, So there's never a teardrop should fall. When your sweet lilting laughter's like some fairy song, And your eyes twinkle bright as can be; You should laugh all the while and all other times smile, And now, smile a smile for me.
When Irish eyes are smiling, Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring. In the lilt of Irish laughter you can hear the angels sing. When Irish hearts are happy, All the world seems bright and gay. And when Irish eyes are smiling, sure they steal your heart away.
For your smile is a part of the love in your heart, And it makes even sunshine more bright. Like the linnet's sweet song, Crooning all the day long, Comes your laughter and light. For the springtime of life, Is the sweetest of all, There is never a real care or regret; And while springtime is ours Throughout all of youth's hours, let us smile each chance we get.
When Irish eyes are smiling, Sure, 'tis like the morn in spring. In the lilt of Irish laughter You can hear the angels sing. When Irish hearts are happy, All the world seems bright and gay, and when Irish eyes are smiling, Sure, they steal your heart away.
Love you Brooke!

You and your family moved in down the street just a few months before you died. Though I never got a chance to meet you I was saddened to hear about what happened. You, your family, and the other officer have been in my prayers.

I could not agree more with the previous reflection.

You taught so much in life, and still do in your death.

We are all better people now.

I just wish you were here to see it happen.

Thanks Al.

Unsinkable ships sink
Unbreakable walls break
Sometimes the things you think could never happen
Happen just like that
Unbendable steel bends
If the fury of the wind is unstoppable
I've learned to never underestimate the impossible

If only I had known this before you left us.

I have been introduced to this community (ODMP), but not by choice.

I cry, not only for you, but for all your brothers and sisters that have been taken since your death.

I know you are there for them, in heaven, to gently guide them through there ultimate fate and sacrifice.

When the years have done
Irreparable harm
I can see us walking slowly arm in arm
Just like that couple on the corner do
'Cause girl I will always be in love with you
And when I look in your eyes
I'll still see that spark
Until the shadows fall
Until the room grows dark
Then when I leave this Earth
I'll be with the angels standin'
I'll be out there waiting
For my true companion
True companion

Al, I will always love you too.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY DAD!

Derek Cliff and Ian

Major McGregor,
I spoke with you only a handful of times, but I heard about you often. My husband thought highly of you and learned much from you. Your passing has touched many lives, as did your love and dedication throughout your life. May God keep you safe in his arms and his angels watch over your loving wife and beautiful sons.

Al...It has been nearly six (6) months since you left us. I think of you every day...I'm not alone, because, I hear many guys (and gals) mention your name at some point and time during their tour.
Alister...Gone...But...Not Forgotten...

Brooke...You too are greatly missed. I hope you come back soon. I'm sorry I missed you the other day at the Station...come back soon...

My thoughts and prayers are with you both...
Love,
A Brother EP Officer

Somebody killed a Policeman today,
and part of America died.
A piece of the country he swore to protect
will be buried with him at his side.

The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights;
While a young widowed mother, must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

Yes, someone killed a Policeman today,
maybe in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort, behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks the beat, on a dark city street,
and he stands by each rookie's side.
He answered the call.....of himself he gave all,
and part of America died.

Al, If words could only say how much you are missed. There is not a day that goes by that we don't think and talk about you. You were one of the good guys. You were a great friend, witty and always ready to have a good time. We will miss all of your great conversations, your wisdom and friendship. You left lasting impressions on many including us. All of the times we spent with you are in our memories and will be forever. We loved and miss you. We would give anything to hear you cluck one last time. You know what we mean. Life will never be the same without you for more than you can imagine. You touched many greater than you probably knew. Love, The Hen
