Reflections for Police Officer Clinton Warren Hunter

I was out on leave when I learned of the tragedy, which happened one day before my birthday. I remember seeing you at arrest review and calling you "Red". Im learning to go on in spite of the hurt that I feel when i think of you no longer being here with us, and the pain this caused your family. I find comfort in the Lord and purpose in my heart to keep your family in my prayers. I think of you often whenever I pull into the gate at the main station, and smile just knowing that you will forever be our "gate keeper".

HEY CLINT..NOT A DAY GOES BY THAT YOU AREN'T IN MY THOUGHTS. I THINK ABOUT THE THINGS WE DID IN THE ACADEMY AND ON THE STREET. YOU ARE WITH ME WHEN I MAKE A TRAFFIC STOP OR SEARCH A BLDG. I THINK OF THE PLACES WHERE WE TOOK CALLS TOGETHER AND WE WOULD CRITIQUE OUR OFC. SAFETY. I REALLY MISS MY FRIEND AND I WONDER EACH DAY IF THE PAIN IS GOING TO GO AWAY OR IS THIS JUST GONNA BE A PERMANENT PART OF ME. I JUST KNOW THAT YOU LEFT DOING WHAT YOU LOVED TO DO AND THAT GIVES ME COMFORT. YOU WILL NEVER LEAVE MY HEART BRO AND WITH YOU AND THE LORD BY MY SIDE, I KNOW THAT I AM IN SAFE HANDS. ONE DAY WE WILL SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN AND GET TO WORK ON THE LORDS NIGHTSHIFT.

Though your tour of duty may not have seemed long in some eyes YOU did make a difference. God Bless you. To your family, friends and the Austin Police Department may the Lord take you and guide, comfort, and protect you.

I went to your funeral sad and confused. Confused on how this could really be happening, how you could really be gone. It is hard when something like this hits so close to home. But, I left the service with a new look on the situation. I know now that even though we work for different agencies, I will always have a backing officer with me. I know that when I am enroute to a hot call I will always hear, Frank 405 is enroute to back.

We lost a friend and a brother, but St. Micheal and heaven gained a new angel and officer. An officer and angel who will always be with us.

There are still a few regrets that I have, one is not keeping better contact with you and the other is not having the honor of severing along side of you. At least now I know that you will always be there.

Deputy Phillip L. Taylor
Hays County Sheriff's Office

I would like to first say how sorry I am to the wife of Officer Hunter. I feel so much of your pain, but could fanthom the reality of it. I love you and you are family, you joined this family by a code of honor and we are here for you and your daughter. Please try to be strong and be the best you can be and live each day as if he where still here. Your husband is a hero, he saved many lives that night, it may not seem this way but it is true. If he had no courage to do what he did others may have died. He is a true hero. God has blessed him to continue his duties in heaven. He is now your guardian angel, to watch over you and your daughter. He knows you will be fine and strong.
I hope my email address and this letter finds it way to you. If you need me just to write to, eat lunch/dinner or someone to lean on, please I am here for you as I know you would be here for me.

We love you,

Det. William Flannery and wife Cindy Flannery

We can take solace in the fact that for every officer who loses his or her life, an officer here on earth gains an angel for a partner. Clint, please watch over your brothers and sisters from your heavenly viewpoint. Our thoughts are with you.

To the family of Officer Clinton Hunter, and to his brothers and sisters at APD, our deepest condolences. Our prayers are with you in the tragic time.

Sgt H.L. Hawbaker
Hidalgo County TX Sheriff's Office

To the family and officers of the Austin Police Dept.,
My prayers go out to all of you. Having been a member of APD for a very short time and having been a resident of Austin, I know how treacherous I-35 can be at times. Add to that, an officer attempting to perform his duties, trying to protect many innocent lives on that highway and stop that individual, and Officer Hunter's life taken while thinking of others. The Lord only wants the best with him at his side. May God bless APD and the 93rd. I miss all of you.

Clint, I only knew you for a short time but your memory will remain with me forever. You were a great friend and shiftmate. My deepest condolences to your family, I know they are proud of you, as we all are also, for the sacrifice you gave protecting the public. I know you will be watching over the rest of us as we go about our daily duties. You were a great BROTHER in Law-Enforcement and you will be missed...

I would like to extend my condolences to the family, co-workers, and friends of Officer Hunter. It is a terrible day in Texas Law Enforcement once again, as we have lost another one of our own. May God be with Officer Hunter's family, and the Austin Police Department in this tragic time. Officer Hunter will not be forgotten for the sacrifice he made for the City of Austin, and the State of Texas.

Sgt. J. Hoskins
Saint Jo Police Department

Clint I only had the opportunity to meet you one time. I will never forget the handshake and smile. The professional and positive impression you made on me and the same which has been echoed thoughout the deparment following your passing will always live. No one or nothing can take that away from you. My prayers are with your family and I know God will provide for them. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. Outside of the flesh your soul lives on, one of God's angels got his wings.

My heart aches for Officer Hunter's parents and family. Our walk in their shoes began on December 4 - almost a year ago - when our son was murdered while attempting to arrest a car thief. I am angry that our justice system has allowed our streets to become filthy with terrorists who have no regard for the law and no regard for those who are commissioned to enforce it. Officer Hunter died a hero. May God bless his family.

It's hard for me to believe that you are gone. It's seems like only yesterday that you and I were still running around Hays High School and Hays County, acting like the people that we chase today. You were a good friend in school and I am positive that you are an good officer.

It hurts when you lose a brother officer, but it hurts even more when you lose a friend. That's what you are and always will be, a friend and a brother officer. So until our final role call, I will truly miss you. God bless you and your family.

Deputy Phillip L. Taylor
Hays County Sheriff's Office

May God Bless the family of Officer Hunter. I am sorry to hear of this loss. What a shame that his life ended at such a young age. May God also bless the other agencies in the state of Texas who has lost many officers this year.
