Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Michael Shostak

Mike,
It has been 4 years today since we have been together. So much has changed here. Breanna is now in 1st grade and she is going to be as tall as you.Brent came by and took her out on his new GSXR 1000, she had to wear your helmet, she was so happy, she told Brent to go faster I think she is going to be just like you.It is nice to see that she can be so much like you even with you not being here.It has not been easy for us at times we both miss you so much but we both know you are doing something bigger where you are now. We love you.

Mike - your passing left a great void in West District...My years at Lee County were filled with memories of many fine Deputies..I am proud to say that you were one. I visited the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in D.C. and said hello to all 8 officers I have served with over the years who now are inscribed forever in that hallowed place...you are in good company.

Mike, This was the first year I was able to attend the Law Enforcement Memorial in Tallahassee. Seeing your name on the wall brought back all the memories of working with you. May God continue to watch over your family and know that you are not forgotten.

Mike,

I first met you when you were assigned to me during your FTO program. You never know what to expect when you get a new rookie, but we became instant friends. I learned you were married and had a young daughter. Your family and mine all became friends. I even had the privilege of having you as my best man at my wedding. It was a pleasure to have you as a friend. I’ll never forget that night I responded to a crash involving a fellow deputy but only to learn that it was you. I was the second car on scene. We were talking and you were joking around. Everything seemed to be ok, but we later learned that it wasn’t. You never woke up after your surgery. Two weeks later while I was at the hospital, you passed away. It was the saddest day ever. This was the first time that a friend of mine had past away. Not only were you a friend but also someone that I had trained and also my best man at my wedding. You were taken to early but God must have had something else in mind for you. After you past away, my daughter told my wife that she was scared that I wouldn’t come home from work like Mike. After the funeral my daughter started calling me every night to say goodnight and she still does to this day.

We all miss you.
You can rest now and let us take it from here, God bless.

Your friend,
Ron

Mike,
I have known you since you were only 15 years old. You were one of the best. God took you for a reason and I will try to remember that. I miss you. The pain is still here. Rest now and watch over me. God speed my brother.

To my husband and best friend I wish you could come home to me I miss you so much. I don't like this new life I'm really alone. When you were here life was so happy I miss those days now It's just sadness. If we could only have our life back. I love you.

I am a 5 year patrolman and I have a 2 year old at home. I am even close to the same age. I read this and went and gave my daughter and wife a huge and kiss. I leave for work ever day wondering if I will make it back. Only God understands why he takes daddys and husbands. The only peace I have is knowing that I am a son of God and I will meet with all again some day. God needed another angel in heaven and we see who he choose. To the family, in my prayers you will be.

Unfortunately you have become the 200th LOE killed in the line of duty this year, a number that has not been reached since 1981. The whole county suffers a loss every time a LOE is lost.
Rest in peace my brother. You will not be forgotten.

So sad another good Officer has died in my state and so close to home. My heart and prayers go out to Deputy Shostak family and friends.

God Bless you
