Family, Friends & Fellow Officers Remember...

On July 9, 2001 our police department lost Officer Justin Woolam to a drunk driver, too. My heartfelt sympathies go out to Trooper Vazquez's family and the department he left behind. The road before you is a long one, but I'm sure Trooper Vazquez would not want you to give up. You will honor him by carrying on your service to your community. My prayers for God's mercy and blessings are with you all.

In 1994 I was nearly a victim of a drunk driver while conducting a traffic stop. Despite our best efforts to be safe, despite the latest training, God is in control. Only God knows what plans He has for each of us and why He took Trooper Vasquez when he did. My prayers and thoughts go out to Trooper Vasquez's family, friends and fellow Troopers.

I was deeply saddened by the news of Trooper Vazquez' death. He was murdered while he was in the act of helping to keep the highways of Ohio and our Nation safe for others. My heart goes out to his spouse and children. I have never had the opportunity to meet Trooper Vazquez, but he is still like a brother. Thank you for your committment to your profession, my brother.
