Reflections for Police Officer Jeffrey Michael Fontana

Jeff,

I remember your enthusiasm and excitement at the C.I.S.T.'s prior to your graduation from the SJPD Academy. Your parents sure did raise a wonderful man. Your smile and manners truly set the standard of what a great San Jose Police Officer is.

You are missed every single day at the PD and in the community. It was my honor to have spent some time with you as you went through your final tests.

Rest in peace Jeff, just know you are and will always be remembered.

I attended your candlelight vigil tonight with your family and friends. You are so loved and respected. It was an honor for me to be apart of the tribute that your parents, siblings, police family, the Mayor and Council members paid to you.

Brother Jeff,
It has been 4 years. We will never forget. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

HEROS Live Forever.....

October 28, 2005

To Officer Jeff Fontana, his family and friends, and fellow officers with the San Jose Police Dept:

It has been four years since you were so brutally murdered. but your valor and bravery will never be forgotten.
It is disgraceful that it is taking such a long time for a trial of the despicable criminal who robbed you of your life. This ridiculous delay adds additional stress to your family that they do not need.

Last week I learned of the candle light vigil in your honor which is to occur two days from now. Unfortunately, I will be out of town and unable to personally attend but I will be with you in spirit, and will ask several friends to join me in prayer and our own little candle lighting in your memory that evening in San Diego.

I am so sorry that you were robbed of your life at such a young age. From reading the reflections about you, it is obvious you were well-loved by many, and respected by your peers. Your picture shows that infectious smile that must have lit up a room.

May your family continue to be embraced by the support of their law enforcement family, and other police survivors.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Jeff gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 28, 2001.

To the family of Jeff Fontana,

I'm sorry for your loss, I'm sure even with time it doesn't get any easier. It must be so difficult to wait so long for the trial date to be set. I just learned of the candlelight vigil to honor him and will attend. He is a hero and gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect others.

Jeff,
I just returned from the Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington DC, where I made an etching of your name engraved on the wall. I place an American flag and a rose on your memorial as a tribute to my fallen brother. You will always be a member of the SJPD family. May God bless you.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Tonight, October 28, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Police Officer Jeffery Fontana who died in the line of duty on this date three years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Fontana’s sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I AM SAD TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR SUDDEN DEATH BROTHER. I DIDNT KNOW YOU BUT I RESPECT YOU FOR GIVING THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. WE ALL GIVE SOME BUT YOU GAVE ALL.. REST IN PEACE AND KEEP AN EYE ON US STILL ON THE STREET.

POLICE OFFICER JACK SANTOS
SAN FRANCISCO POLICE

Jeff, It still seems like I should see your face in Briefing every night. I look at your academy mates and I am painfully reminded that you are missing from the row. My daughter says a prayer for you everyday and sometimes offers to "go get Jeff from Heaven and bring him back." If only...but God has other plans for you my friend. We think about you everyday, and we miss you every hour. Watch over us...I know I don't have to ask. God bless you and keep you.

Officer G.B. Huiskens
San Jose PD

I met one of Jeffrey's colleagues last week, and it was clear that Jeffrey was loved. It is never easy to lose a brother or sister, especially one so new to the position and ready for the world!!

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends....

May you rest in peace.

There is never a life without sadness.......
There is never a life without pain
So when to your heart comes the sadness
Of losing dear one you`ve known.....It`s the touch of Gods sickle at harvest...
Since he reaps in the fields he has sown......

Jeff

After serving five years with the San Jose Police Department, I am sad to hear about any fallen officer. This one hits home. I remember seeing this brave young officer after he graduated from the academy. It is hard to understand why this young offcier's life would be cut short due to a cowardly act. I pray for Officer Fontana and his family. I pray that God will give you all the strength to overcome the pain that you all feel. I pray that the person responsible for this act will be brought to justice.

God Bless You
