Reflections for Police Officer Jeffrey Michael Fontana

To Jeffrey's family (Sandy and the rest of you)

My thoughts are with you all as you go through the trial process. I am so greatful that I did not have to go through that part. The rest is bad enough. I want you to know that I am praying for justice. I read today that the killer is going on the stand today. I pray with my whole heart that he is found guilty and given the death penalty.

I just wanted you to know that you are in my prayers.

Dear Officer Fontana,

I live just a few miles from where you were killed. I was shocked and horrified by your shooting. I would like to thank you, as a citizen of San Jose, for your service and dedication to keep all of us safe. I am deeply saddened by your death, as your picture portrays such youth, vitality and promise. May your family find some comfort in knowing those who did not have the pleasure of knowing you mourn you. I hope your family can get some resolution from the justice system. Rest in peace Jeffrey.

Jeff,
I never knew you, but I've heard good things from other officers at SJPD and just wanted to share that with your family and friends. One day I hope to be with the elite officers of SJPD and to live in your honor. Your memory will never leave my heart.

I think of you as I walk down our halls. I look at your picture and wonder what Special Operations Unit you would be working in now. Time has passed but you are not forgotten. God bless you and your family.

On the 6th anniversary of Officer Fontana's death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. "The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY JEFF!! WE LOVE AND MISS YOU EVERYDAY.

Sometimes you get the bad guy and sometimes he
gets you.
The shot that killed you also killed a part of us.
It killed a part of your family, both at work and at home.
It killed your dreams, your hopes, your future.
But it must not kill our determination to make this
world a better place or our will to make a difference.
America's streets must be running red with blood with
all the deaths of leos. Every time I come here to leave
a reflection, I feel like my words get emptier and emptier. I am truly sorry for your loss...a loss too great
for words.

Jeff,
You have crossed my mind several times throughout the years. I remember what a kind and warm hearted person you were during our school years at Woodside Elementary. You have crossed my mind again this week. The City of Colorado Springs just lost another "brother" within a ten month span. You will never be forgotten and like my husband's fellow officers and friends, your service and their service to the community will be forever appreciated. With most gratitude and warmest sympathy to your family.

My thoughts are with your loved ones on this 5th anniversary of your end of watch. I know they still shed those heart felt silent tears in your memory and will for many many years. You are a true hero and heroes never die. You will never be forgotten. Keep watch over your loved ones as they journey through life. Also, keep watch over those still out on patrol guarding the Thin Blue Line.

To the family OFC Fontana,

I am so sorry for your loss! We too just lost our son at also a young age. It's hard to try to find words even after all these years that can comfort you but remind yourself that your son is in a much better place than we are and at peace with GOD. His job here is done and now it's our turn to make sure he is not forgotten and that no matter how long it will take, Justice will prevail. Be strong for him. And he is watching over you and your family. Thank you OFC Fontana for your Dedication, Service, and Pride. You servered your community well. You will be missed by many. RIP and God Bless.........
