Reflections for Wildlife Officer Roy R. Burnsed

FWC Class 46 lifted each other up for today's FWC Memorial Workout in honor of fallen Officer Roy Burnsed who was killed in the line of duty October 26, 2001. We were honored to have a Major and Lieutenant Colonel join us and helped push the recruits to the finish line. FWC has made these Memorial Workouts a tradition for the past 9 years and continues to actively honor those officers who paved the way and made the ultimate sacrifice.

Here at The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, we are a family. While loss can be very painful for any family, our family is strong. Today, we in Class 39 completed our first memorial workout in honor of Officer Roy R. Burnsed, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on October 26, 2001. We proudly completed the workout within the time constraints as a testament to Officer Burnsed’s own strength and achievements. We will continue to honor this officer and all other members of our family who have fallen. Though he may be gone, we will remember him and his final sacrifice.

Respectfully,

FWC Recruit Class 39

Myself and fellow officers placed wreaths made by your mother at the crash site this morning. The story of your dedication to wildlife law enforcement was told at this annual event. Taps was played as we honored your sacrifice.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s core foundations are based on values and family. These beliefs rang through the streets of downtown Tallahassee as Class 35 participated in a memorial workout in honor of Officer , our own fallen family member. The loss of a family member, especially a fellow sworn law enforcement officer Roy R. Burnsed, is tragic and never forgotten. It is a constant reminder of the dangers involved with protecting the public and environment. As a class, we were proud to start and finish the workout, together, in honor of this brave officer and family member. May your name never be forgotten and your legacy never fade, thank you for your service.

Jennifer,
My first husband was killed in the line of duty just 23 days before Roy died. He was a NC State Trooper. I think ODMP was relatively new then as it was several months later before I learned of this site. I hope you have found the strength to move on with life and have as much happiness as possible while still having a hole in your heart. I kept telling myself to live like my husband would have wanted me to live - not depressed or angry the rest of my life. So with the grace of God, I have been able to find peace and happiness in life again. My prayers are with you and the rest of Roy's family as we get ready to start another year without our loved ones!
