Reflections for Sheriff Dwight Calvin Woodrell, Jr.

Officer Oelke,

Thank you for being there for my friends family. I dont know if you realize how important it is for those of us that were there that morning. My friend Phillip.......who died 04-29-06 (at 35 y.o.a. because he couldnt let go of that morning) promised Dwight that we would take care of his family. Even though we are all seperated and scatterd........someone stepped up and did the right thing.

Thank you my friend!!!!

Dear Officer Scott Oelke
Thank you on behalf of my husband Larry Woodrell and myself for escorting Karen and the Kids at the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial Service in Oklahoma City on last friday. It would be nice if an officer or the sheriff of Pawnee County would do it but for what ever reason they choose not to be a part of this service. You are the type of officer Dwight would have been very proud to call a friend. So again thank you God Bless you and your family.

Today I had the opportunity to meet the family of Sheriff Dwight Woodrell Jr. This was a very special day for me because I was assigned to escort Sheriff Woodrell's family at the Law Enforcement Memorial service in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I have seen this family for the last five years at different services and to see how the children have grown up and how strong Sheriff's Woodrell's wife is makes me proud. I know without a doubt that Sheriff Woodrell was a loved father, husband and friend. I pray for the family and hope to have the chance to see them again. I salute you Sheriff Woodrell. God Bless you and your family.

Dwight,

I have been trying so hard to figure out why things ended the way they did.......but I think I have finally figured it out.......even though both of them managed to keep their lives after this..........I realized they both have a Judge to face far greater then any District Court Judge, Attorney or Jury that we could ever put together.

They still have to face the Ultimate Judge for their crimes.........and its not about evidence........he seen it all as it happened........while it may not bring you back my friend.......justice will truly be done when the final Judge hears the case!

I miss you so much my friend.......and I pray that your family's strength continues as it is. See you again my friend.

Dwight, im sorry we didnt do better than this. Im not happy nor am i satisfied with the outcome of these 2 trials. some say we won, i say we not only lost you, but we lost the battle all together. seems like to me that these two monsters got an easy out. lucky for them i wasnt the judge, jury or the arresting officer. now its in gods hands. rest in peace, i will see you soon. we'll keep an eye on karen and the kiddos, they are stronger than you would have ever expected, be proud of them, we sure are.

I read in the paper today...May God's gentle Spirit surround you. My prayers are with you.

Dwight lived to be the Sheriff of Pawnee County and he died being the Sheriff of Pawnee County. He was a respected, working Sheriff who led his deputies by example. I ask myself, why did this have to happen? Then I come to the realization that GOD must have needed a good Sheriff in Heaven. Dwight was the greatest dad to his kids, Calvin,Jessica,Wyatt and Jasper. A good husband to Karen, a great cousin to Larry and the very best son and brother to Dwight Sr.,Cathy and Kim. I will cherish all of my memories of the Best Sheriff of Pawnee County ever had. As Christmas comes closer, I seem to be thinking of you more often. I miss and love you lots. MERRY CHRISTMAS Dwight.

Sunday was the Bluelight services in OKC.Karen did a great job putting it together and finding the right people to speake and to sing. The OHP had their entire cadet class there and it was great, all those blue light in the night. I wish that more people would come out to the memorial and see just how many family's have gave so much for them. So they can lay there head down at night and have a peacful night sleep. We had one more thanksgiving without you, And your dad ,uncle and Larry went on one more hunting trip without you. We all miss you so much.

It's so sad that it has been over four years since Sheriff Woodrell Jr. was brutally taken but hopefully his family can at least get some closure as a judge as ordered the two career criminal defendants to stand trial in February and May of 2006.

Sheriff Woodrell's career speaks for itself and his family is no doubt proud like the rest of the Oklahoma residents. This was a Sheriff who was out on the front lines enforcing the laws in his county as the citizens elected him to do. I pray for justice because Oklahoma not only lost a great law enforcement officer, but after reading the reflections from his family, Oklahoma lost a great family man as well.

In loving memory of Sheriff Woodrell,
Jr.: This is so sad that he is gone,
leaving a loving widow and 4 sweet
children behind. You were so young
and capable and still had so much
more to offer. Thank you for your
service and your supreme sacrifice.
You are truly missed and thank you
for touching so many lives. You died
just one month after one of our own

Yesterday, was four years since you were prematurely taken from our lives. Those of us who know anything about you, know that you loved serving and protecting this community. You have left behind a legacy that is sure to have a huge impact on many law enforcement officers and private citizens for years to come. Thank you for your service, and we will never forget your sacrifice.

It has been four years since you were brutally murdered. Please know that you are not forgotten. A blue candle is being lit this week in my home in your memory.
Your wife's reflections about you are so touching. Although I know you are with your family in spirit, I so wish you could be physically present in their lives. I pray for their continued strength and comfort and wish the very best for your loving wife and kids.

This is my Shield
I bear it before me into Battle
But it is not mine alone
It Protects my brother on the left
It protects my city
I will never let my brother out of its shadow
Nor my city out of it's shelter
I will die with my shield before me
Facing the enemy.

On this, the 4th Anniversary of the end of your watch, though I never knew you, you my my utmost respect. You gave the ultimate sacrafice that you could give to the citizens of Pawnee County. Though you are gone, you will never be forgotten.

A warrior can lose
But will never be defeated.
A warrior can be beaten
But can never be conquered.
A warrior will die
But will never perish.

Rest in Peace my brother.
