Reflections for Police Officer Dominick A. Pezzulo

Officer Pezzulo, today I learned you were neighbors with my parents and you and your family were a blessing to them. They remember your kindness and selflessness fondly. May you rest in peace and thank you for always looking out for others including my family. You are a hero.

I was only a baby when 9/11 happened, and I don't have any recollection of it. I'm also very new to the job and on the other side of the nation from where it all happened, but the lives you changed and influenced are able to tell your story still. I was able to meet one of your co-workers during your time as a teacher, and see his passion for law enforcement and the immense drive he has to live life to the fullest in your memory. That co-worker, acting as my training officer, has shown me how to be a true officer through lessons of empathy and being willing to go the extra mile for the people we serve. Please know that LAPD Olympic Divison will never forget you and that we hope you are watching over us every day.

Your sacrifice and those of the victims and other first responders will forever be honored in the annals of brave men and women who gave their all for their city, state and for the United States of America. A hero in every sense of the word. Your heroics were the stuff of legend.

My heart still aches. I was a freshman in High School. I remember being so afraid not knowing what was going to happen. If the attacks were going to continue or if the WTC was the only target. All I know is, tears fill my eyes every 09/11. I will never forget this day. It is because of First Responders like you that make this country great. Your selfless acts. While we are running from evil... You are running with a sword and shield in hand to it. Ready to make the ultimate sacrifice if needed. My heart hurts for all of the men and women who died this day. God bless you ALWAYS! AMERICA!

Officer Pezzulo is a true hero in every word. Just watched the movie about him and words cannot express the feelings about what this Officer must have gone through during those moments that he was desperately trying to rescue fellow brothers who were trapped.

Dear Officer Pezzulo,

May you rest in peace. Like the many other officers who perished that day, I did not know you. I was in college back then in Boston and witnessed the tragedy through a small TV screen.

Yet, the memory of that day is as vivid as yesterday. I cannot even imagine what you and your loved ones went/have gone through. Bless your family for their loss and sacrifice and your parents for raising a person so empathetic and brave as yourself.

12 years later we remember you and you will never be forgotten for your selfless act and for giving your life up not only for your friend but for total strangers. Thank you. I believe in a world with more people like you and hope one day I can be such a person.

Family of Officer Dominick Pezzulo (Port Authority). On Saturday, September 8, 2012, the Wausau WI Memorial Stair Climb took place. I climbed the 110 flights of stairs in memorial of Dominick. When i finished the climb, I spoke Dominick's name and rang the bell. It was an emotional journey for me, representing all the persons who lost their lives in the 9-11 tragedy. I have his picture and will keep it close as a reminder of the heroism he showed on that day 11 years ago. Peace to you.

You are a true Hero to us all. May you rest in peace, God bless you, your family and all those police officers that lost their lives that terrible day. I was only 5 but still remember that day due to having a father in law enforcement. You saved thousands of lives including the lives of your fellow officers.
