Still have a scar above my eye from a fight I got into with Mike Curtin at the Drill Instructor Academy on Parris Island. We fought over what bar to go to that night. Nine stitches later, he got his way...

75 Steady late tours, and long hours at BCB is where I had the privilege of walking for a moment in time with Mike Curtin and Joe Vigiano. Often, the name "Sons of Thunder" will come to mind when thinking of them.

There was just something about these two. Joe; Quick, Bold, Fearless. Fearless. Yet seeming to carry within a deep, poignant sense of compassion. Perhaps it's what fueled him. Mike; A Rock. Solid, Restrained, Intelligent. A Powerhouse. Yet possessed of an almost unbearable grace.

If someone were to tell me that they were only ever on loan to us from the heavens, I would believe them. If someone were to say this is an example of what God's Angels look like when living as mortal men, I would believe them. No, not the harp playing kind. The warrior kind. God's policemen.

It seems so right that they were together in life. So, I suppose it shouldn't be surprising that they were taken together at the end of their time here. But it still hurts.

Mike, Joe; It was an honor to have known you, and impossible to forget you. I trust you are safe home, and Semper Fi.

For the first time this year I went to the memorial. I have visited at the wall in DC, but never there. It was just not that easy to do. Just like the memories of the war I have to face. I knew what I would be facing the minute I got in line. So we face that pain. It took awhile but we found your name. I just had no words at that point. Brother continue to rest at peace. YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!

From the Halls of Montezuma,
To the shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean:
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven’s scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By The United States Marines.

Rest In Peace Michael!! Love your cousin Ellie<3

To the family and friends of Sergeant Michale Curtin,

I just recently, for the 1st time visited NYC ( May 28, 2010 - Memorial Day Weekend ) . I had the opportunity to visit the Statue of Liberty and took a 2 1/2 hour walk on the streets of NYC to visit and pay my respects to all the Heroes and victims of 09/11. On our walk we passed a memorial with the tiles people from around our nation sent to hang on this chain length memorial fence. I took several pictures and the one that caught my eye most was the one of Sergeant Michal S Curtin, that said "Some Gave All". I, of course, came back home to Oklahoma and done an internet search so I could pay my respects to this fallen hero. Thank you so much for your service!! You have NOT been forgotten and you never will.

God Bless you, your family and all your NYPD fellow officers!!!
