I am running a 9/11 memorial race in Lake Zurich, Illinois, tomorrow, 6/10/2018. When I picked up my race bib, attached was a photo a firefighter or a police officer lost on 9/11 who each runner was assigned to “run with”. I got a photo of Kenneth Tietjen. I looked up his name, and ended up here. Even though I don’t know you, Mr. Tietjen, I am so proud to get to run with you tomorrow.

I am so very sorry Ken.
To all that read this, Ken was just a genuine nice person. A gentleman, mild mannered, well mannered, humble and brought up right. It is my understanding that Ken was working at the world famous Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan that day. When he heard the call for assistance(8-13) he commandeered a taxi cab and responded to the scene. He without hesitation gave his all to save the life of strangers.
The world would be better off with beautiful soul, I am so very sorry

Dear Ken:
As I wind down my 27 year career, I always come to reflect on what you and the rest did the horrible day. Neither my words, nor words from any government official, can ever due you justice for the sacrifice you willingly made.
Successfully saving 25,000 innocent people is no small feat in any circumstance. But to do it while buildings are on fire and about to collapse, that is a feat of bibical proportions. Your sacrifice cannot and will not be forgotten, no sir. For to do so, would be a grave injustice and disrespect to you and your family.
In that vein, I write this reflection. To keep a promise I made to all of you who gave everything you had on 11 September 2001. Each reflrection is not only showing deserved respect for you, but to keep alive in the minds of our fellow countrymen, that a police officer is not only here to "eat donuts", or "write some tickets", but rather to answer the cry of the wolf at the door, when others cannot or will not respond. And in answering that cry, the price paid is veery high.
Our blue may have gotten thinner, but our line has held. Our countrymen are safe, and our country proud. Proud of you, one of America's Finest, now and forever. I pray that our God in Heaven hears me every night when I lay my head on my pillow, and give Him thanks for all I have, WE have, as a result of your actions. Rest in peace my brother, we have the watch. I have only the words I lived my career by, to give you: "Above all else, honor".
God Bless You, God Bless your family, and God Bless America. Amen

Your's was the first 9/11 funeral I attended and I felt honored to do so. It was even more of an honor to speak with your family members after the ceremony. May they have comfort in knowing that you are with the LORD.

There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.

You were called into this profession and our Lord and Savior has blessed you because:
According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because God honors it.

You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for your fellow man, while serving, defending, and protecting others in your community.

Thank you for your service to America. Your efforts saved thousand that horrible day.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends. You will be in our hearts forever.

I tried to attend as many funerals as I could during these darkest of days as my way of showing respect to families and coworkers of all of my brother and sister Officers and Firefighters. I cannot find the words to say how sorry I am that we have lost these great heroes. I cannot express my thanks enough for your bravery and sacrifice. My prayers are with you and all of your families......................AC

There are not many people and/or officers brave enough to do what Kenny did on 9-11. His bravery will be rewarded by God. May he watch over the rest of us while we do our jobs with the same dedication, loyalty and love that he always showed.
