Reflections for Police Officer Walwyn Wellington Stuart, Jr.

On the anniversary of 9/11, I thank you and your comrades for your selfless duty and courage that momentous day. Your sacrifice and those of the victims and other first responders will forever be honored in the annals of brave men and women who gave their all for their city, state and for the United States of America. A hero in every sense of the word. I hope your daughter, who now an adult is well and forever proud of her father.

Stewy, the Chess Man. I never did get to engage you in a game of chess. I was always sleeping in the barracks when you asked me to play. 7 years later, youre gone and Im getting some feelings out on ODMP. I remember vividly, you and I running side by side in that wicked cold road in seagirt, during one of our PT Tests. Our lungs were screaming, we wanted to stop and rest and quit. But we kept each other going until the end. I think you beat me by a few seconds actually. I wont hold it against you bro. You were another SOLID guy. A strong silent quality person. After the academy, we lost touch. So much has happened man. I saw your wife and baby on TV. It broke my heart. You will always be in my conscious mind my brother. RIP.

Officer Stuart:

Christmas approaches again as I read of your heroism for the first time. Though we never knew each other we are bound in a way. Ninety years before September 11 New Yorkers were shocked by the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in Washington Square. I am the grandson of a survivor and was thinking of that when I examined the city from the top of the towers in 1989 and again when I left in March 2001. Though you and so many others have fallen we remain to carry on the struggle. I never take a day for granted. I never forget my obligation to honor your memory and ensure in my own way that your family and so many other heroes families remain protected. God bless and keep you sir.

I saw your story on CBN's 700 Club. You weren't suppose to be working that fateful day six years ago. Your decision to redirect a subway train, outside of the normal protocol, saved hundreds of lives. It wasn't even your normal post. I was so relieved to hear that you were both a brother in blue, and a brother in Christ. Well done good & faithful servant. You represented both "brotherhoods" with Honor, Bravery, & Courage. To your family I pray today that the Lord give them peace & comfort during this time of year.

Sir:
This reflection is a milestone for me, and a small token of my profound respect and admiration for you. With this reflection, I now fulfill my promise I made to all of you, some time ago...that each of you who died on 11 September 2001, shall have a reflection written from me, to each of you. And I have been honored to complete this labor of love, as I am writing to real heroes.
There is nothing that we, your fellow brothers in blue, can ever say or do enough, to give back the enormous sacrifice you made. But perhaps there is one crucial fact that maybe you can take pride in...the fact that you along with all the others, gave another chance at life to 25,000 innocent people. In addition, we, your brothers in blue can and do feel the immense pride who have instilled in all of us who wear a badge, by your heroic actions.
Somewhere there is a family that is still hurting from losing you, and perhaps that hurt will never go away. But they can rejoice in knowing that after completing your assignment, you went home. And someday, we will meet in a better place, a place that God has set aside for those of us who protected those who could not protect themselves.
Rest in peace, and watch over those of us still here. As you patrol the streets of Heaven, may God hold you close to Him, may He shower your family with His grace, and as always, God Bless America. Amen

Palm Beach Sheriff's Office-Florida

To the family and loved ones of Officer Walwyn Stuart and his fellow officers with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department and most especially to Walwyn:

Mere words seem insignificant to honor your heroism and courage which will never be forgotten. On this the fifth anniversary week of the tragic devastation wreaked upon our nation, those brave men and women who lost their lives safeguarding others are remembered and revered.

May your spirit continue to soar and your memory continue to inspire.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect and gratitude for the distinquished service Walwyn gave to his community and country, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 11, 2001.
