Family, Friends & Fellow Officers Remember...

On the anniversary of 9/11, I thank you and your comrades for your selfless duty and courage that momentous day. Your sacrifice and those of the victims and other first responders will forever be honored in the annals of brave men and women who gave their all for their city, state and for the United States of America. A hero in every sense of the word. Thank you as well for your 21 years of service.

I climbed 110 flights of stairs in honor of you today at the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event in Hoover, Alabama. My husband is a 30 year police officer. Walking the stairs, I thought of what it would have been like for you and all those who sacrificed their lives on that day… such unrivaled bravery and dedication. I didn’t know you but the nation is grateful for what you did that day and the loss your family has endured every day since. I am proud to have walked in your name today. We will never forget.

Jay was a Good Cop, a good friend, and a funny guy! No matter how you felt coming to work, if you were working with Jay, it was something to look forward to!
I remember one particular night, working 11x7, "Uptown," ("Post 5") on Patrol in Midtown Manhattan. What could have been an uneventful and routine night was filled up with Jay's "one-liners" and comments about the job, the environment we were in that night, as well as his personal insight on different things. Lot's of laughs.
He was also one of the "go-to" guys to talk to about arrests, law, and procedures.
That tour in the car was many, many years ago now, but I remember it like it was last night.

Yesterday, 6/18/2022 I climbed 110 flights at the Charleston Coliseum and had the honor of receiving the badge of John Lennon to carry with me on my climb. I am a mental health therapist who serves first responders which drew me to participate in this memorial climb along with family members that are law enforcement.

We never forget. Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice for our country. God bless you and your family.

Today I climbed the bleachers in Thomasville, Georgia to honor Officer John Lennon’s ultimate sacrifice. I am a senior citizen so it took me over an hour to complete the climb. Today has been a beautiful clear day for our rescheduled memorial climb. I cannot begin to imagine how difficult the climb was on 9/11 with the heat, smoke and other pollutants in the air.

In AZ, there is a 9/11 Tower Challenge where participants climb 110 floors in honor of the first responders lost on 9/11.

This year, I received Officer John Lennon to carry. It was an honor and privilege to wear Officer Lennon’s picture during my climb.

You will always be remembered and honored in my home and heart, Officer Lennon.

I cannot say enough or offer enough tears or emotions for the numerous, numerous amazing men and women who gave so selflessly and heroically that day and for still many, the numerous days that followed over the numerous years to come. My sons are just starting to ask about 9/11 as they are learning about it for the first time in school.
I told them about you and the heroic efforts of the police officers and fire fighters that day.
The reason I spoke to them about you personally is because we have the honor of raising a TSA dog named LLennon who was named after you. He was ironically born on 9/11 2006. In our small family in Pflugerville, TX we remember you today and always for your sacrifice.

I attended the Run to Remember 5K in Hilliard, Ohio, which has one of the largest memorials in the country to the memory of those who responded to the tragedy of 9/11. After the run we were honored to read a name from the wall of those who perished that day and to remember that name as we celebrated their lives at Old Hillardfest. We placed a carnation at the base of the wall while "Amazing Grace" was being played on bagpipes. Officer Lennon's name was the name I found on the wall. Thank you, sir, for your ultimate sacrifice.

Time is passing, but there will be no forgetting September the 11th 2001. We will remember every one who died with honor. We will remember every family that lives with grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, and the funerals. On this tenth anniversary of your death, I am still so deeply humbled by your bravery and sacrifice. It is very, very hard for me to write this reflection for Officer Lennon. Eight years seems like yesterday when I think about him and the others. I remember him telling me he finally got his desk job. He was so happy. And he gave me a coveted Port Authority card that I still have. I had been bugging him for four years for one.

He always had chocolates for us, and he and Officer Levi would joke around and keep us company in arraignment court in the City of Newark Municipal Court. God, he was such a grace to his uniform and profession. We all loved him.

I pray every night that his family and friends heal and carry his positivity and light forward into the future. He is missed and loved. God bless.
