Reflections for Officer Ronald Sheffield

I WANT TO THANK RON FOR TEACHING THE JOB. I WAS A CONTRACT GUARD AT THE TIME RON WAS KILLED, I HAD JUST BEEN HIRED. WE TALKED FOR HOURS ON MY POST ABOUT FAMILY AND LIFE. RON IS STILL A GREAT MAN TO ME, AND WITH 9/11 AND HIS DEATH BRINGS A GREAT DEAL OF PROSPECTIVE TO LIFE ITSELF.

THANK YOU RON FOR EVERYTHING

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK RON FOR TEACHING ME HOW TO HOLD UP IN A CRISIS. I WAS IN THE BUILDING AT THE TIME, I WAS IN THE LUNCHROOM. RON WILL BE MISSED BY ALL

Ron Sheffield was a very good friend of mine and my husband (Officer Jeff Bare/Detroit Police). He was dating my friend, Mary Pellirito. Next month (September) will be one year since Ron was killed here in the building where we work. He is still missed so much and not a day goes by that we're not reminded of his heroism. Its just too bad that so many senseless deaths happen in the Law Enforcement Community. It takes very special people to do this job and very special families to love those who do it. We take comfort only in the fact that wherever Ron is right now, he's looking over us and protecting us.

Danielle Bare

Officer Ronald Sheffield will be forever in all our hearts. He was always there for anyone who needed him. He cared about everyone and never judged people, even the people who he had arrested. He was the bravest person I've ever met, but then everybody thinks their dad is. He loved his country and gave the ultimate sacrifice for it on September 21, 2001. I love you Daddy and God Bless everyone.

I WOULD LIKE TO OFFER MY PRAYERS TO THE SHEFFIELD FAMILY AND ALL THE MEN AND WOMEN OF ALL US FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY'S.

To My Best Friend and Partner,
Rest easy, sunshine! I will never forget the ways you touched my life. I miss you terribly. Your silly laugh, your smile, your constant "couseling sessions" (as Officer Fore put it.) I will live the rest of my life with the constant reminder of what a wonderful person you were. I love you, ALWAYS, and find comfort knowing you watch over me every second. Your Memory will never fade.

In the wake of the tragic events surrounding the World Trade Center, this is just one more pain in our hearts. Before reading this message I had never heard of or even known who Officer Ronald Sheffield was. However, as a present Federal Law Enforcement Officer and a former Marine, I feel as though regardless of never meeting, we were brothers. I have recently lost my sister in the WTC attack and my condolences and heartfelt sorrow go out to his family. May "God" and his "Mighty Angels" guide Officer Sheffield on his final journey. Ron was the "Best". The "Best" at being a good person. The "Best" at being a good MAN. The "Best" at his job! The "Best" at any endeavor he started. Now I am sure in my heart that he is busy being the "BEST" Angel watching over us all that we ever could have!

St. Michael, Heaven's glorious Commissioner of Police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all it's undesirables, look with kindly and professional eye on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, hard punches, an uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know St. Michael, from your own experiences with the devil that the policeman's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your Heavenly Force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of men. Amen

My thoughts and prayers are with Ron, his family and friends. We all lost a little something that day, September 21, 2001. Farewell Brother, guard God's throne well.

Ron was a friend to both my husband and myself. I worked in the Federal building with Ron. He was a very special person who did what he loved to do, serve and protect. Its always tragic when any law enforcement officer dies, but this time it was even more difficult. His girlfriend and I are best friends, and it hurts so much to see the saddness in her eyes every day. He will be missed tremendously by everyone who knew him. Ron will live forever as a hero.

Ron and I went through basic training together in FLETC. We didn't spend much time together but I do remember when Ron helped me out. I needed a lift to the airport so I could meet my father and Ron took the time to drive me. He wouldn't even take money for gas. It was probably nothing for Ron but it meant a lot to me and I will never forget that. May God watch over your family and comfort them during this rough time. God Bless!!!!

I'm extremely bitter about this officers heroic death, which is totally unappreciated by his own agency. How many more times will this happen before FPS Officers receive the justice they are long overdue?

Ron and I were classmates at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Mixed Basic Class MBPTP 807. Ron also worked with me on several details in my region and elsewhere. We worked the Elian/Cuban event in 2000; Ron kept me laughing from the day we met at the academy to the last e-mail we shared. Saint Pat's day on the waterfront in Savanna was the best, with Ron and Ronnie, Greg and the rest what a great time. When Ron, Ronnie and I met, we realized that we had all just escaped from the Department of Veterans' Affairs Police, and that there really was life after the VA. Ron started to share stories of some of the most bizarre calls he had responded to and we began to compare notes. Ron also seemed to be able to get our Instructors to laugh with (AT) us as well. Ron, I will really miss your sense of humor. God speed you and keep you my friend. Ronnie, Larry and I and the rest of the 807 gang, well, we'll do the rest. "Your are the worst class I ahve ever had!" --Class Coordinator MBPTP 807, After the Beer and Pool party with BOP and INS....... Thanks for all of the good memories Ron.

ONE WEEK BEFORE RON WAS KILLED, I HAD THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH RON, WE HAD NOT WORKED TOGETHER FOR SOMETIME, WE MADE AN ARREST OF A SUBJECT FOR B&E OF AN AUTO. AS WE WERE WAITING FOR A WARRANTS CHECK TO COME BACK, RON HAD ONE OF HIS FAMOUS COUNSELING SESSIONS WITH THE SUBJECT. THESE SESSIONS WOULD FOCUS ON HOW THE PERSON COULD IMPROVE THEIR LIVES THEY WERE SERIOUS, BUT AT THE SAME TIME COMICAL. AT THE END OF OUR SHIFT I TOLD RON THAT HIS COUNSELING SESSIONS WAS ONE OF THE THINGS I MISSED MOST ABOUT WORKING WITH HIM. I AM SURE, WHEN I GET TO HEAVEN, I AM GOING TO HEAR HOW RON GAVE ST. PETER A COUNSELING SESSION. I LOVE AND MISS YOU RON, SEMPER FI. ED(1406)

POLICE OFFICER EDWIN FORE

DEAR ROB,

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR BROTHER. YOU HAVE LOST A BLOOD BROTHER AND WE HAVE ALL LOST A BROTHER OFFICER. BELOW IS A POEM I CAME ACROSS

Part of America Died
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It Happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, and gave us his all,
and a part of America died.

TAKE CARE.

On behalf of the Officers and Agents of the Federal Protective Service here in Sacramento, California we wish to express our sincere sorrow to the family, friends and associates of Officer Ron Sheffield. As we reflect on his unselfish act of heroism, we salute him and once again reaffirm our own commitments to the protection and safety of others. For those family and friends that loved Officer Sheffield, his memory will never fade. For us, he will forever be in our thoughts as a fallen brother that made the supreme sacrifice for serving those he had sworn to protect. Officer Sheffield will be eternally missed and remain always in the hearts and thoughts of us all, his fellow comrades here at the FPS.

Greater love has no man than he that lay down his life for his friends. We have to stand up to evil no matter what the cost. As in the upcoming military conflict we will lose brave men and women who stand up to evil to protect freedom. That is what law enforcement people do every single day. May God bless Officer Sheffield, his family, friends, and co-workers.
