Reflections for Police Officer Donan James "Jim" Faulkner, Jr.

I speak for everyone in our department when I say that we are saddened to hear about a fallen brother. Officer Faulkner is a true hero. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Faulkner's family and the Peoria Police Dept. God bless and rest in peace.

Deputy Eric Claudin
Woodford County Sheriff's Dept. IL

Officer Jim Faulkner was one of my FTOs and I will never forget the lessons learned while riding with him. Not only was Jim a great officer, but he took the time to pass what he knew on to his brother and sister officers. God bless his wife and family and all those who must resume patrol without him.

Officer Jared Ginglen
Peoria Police Department

My deepest condolences to the family friends and colleagues of Officer Faulkner. You are all in my prayers. Another fine officer has lost his life because a coward wouldn't face up to the justice he deserved for the acts that he perpetrated on our society. Though I never knew Officer Faulkner, I know why he put on his uniform and went to work every day. We are all better off for having Officers like him among us. Godspeed, Jimmy.

Officer Donna C. Hillier
Purdue University Calumet Police Department - Hammond, IN

Smiley, you are truly missed. I pray everyday for your wonderful wife and your 5 beautiful children; may the pain of your loss lessen with the passing days. You were a wonderful man, husband, father, and police officer. I still reflect on that little swish you had in your walk that used to put a smile on my face. And also all the times I took the spare tires out of the back of that "old blue" and put them on the roof of it, seeing your reaction was always comical. I miss you and think of you often
UNLOCK THE ANGEL
From the ashes and the dirt, you rose up to face the challenge
We all found a friend in you , that we could have never imagined.
Unlock the angel that always stood in front of us, like God sent him from above, for us to cherish and believe in forever.
The smile upon your angel face and the heaven in your eyes
replace the hell that we are going through every day and every night.
As if it were destiny for all of us to know you
You are an angel now.
You never know where one might be, in safe homes or crowded streets
But God sent one straight down to us from heaven.

Love you Jimmy.

Police Officer Trish Taylor
Peoria Police Department

God bless you and all who knew you, the offender will be taken care of by God, you are needed else where to take care of something more important now, Thank you for doing the job.

MY HEART IS SAD ONCE AGAIN TODAY. IT WAS PUT OUT IN OUR MIDNIGHT SHIFT BRIEFING THAT OFFICER FAULKNER HAD BEEN KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY. NO ONE IN MY AGENCY KNEW HIM, BUT U WOULD NOT KNOW IT WHEN YOU LOOKED AROUND THE ROOM. THEY WERE QUIET WITH HEADS HUNG DOWN. THIS SENSELESS ACT MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH. IM A TEN YEAR VETERAN AND HAVE SEEN IT MANY TIMES. WE HAVE LOST ANOTHER BROTHER. A COMRADE IN ARMS. BUT HE WILL BE REMEMBERED AS A HERO. I DIDNT KNOW HIM BUT HE WAS A BROTHER. I WILL MOURN HIM......OFC RAY MCDUFFIE

OFFICER RAY MCDUFFIE

Faulkner...you were truly the great one. I will forever remember you and grieve every time a thought of you comes my way. You carried our 3rd shifts and I will never forget our last roll call.....you laughing so hard that you turned red because Green was making you laugh. And then going off duty,"3b4 off duty" in that little voice that began to annoy dispatch but made us all laugh as we drove away knowing that our tour of duty was over and we were going home safe. OK Kiddo.....you are missed and I love you. RMS #935

Police Officer Ruth M. Sandoval

Jim, you also leave behind over 200 brother/sister Peoria Police Officers. It will take all of us to fill the void you have left.

I attended Ofc. Faulkner's funeral yesterday. It was very moving and emotional. I want to pass on my prayers and thoughts to his family and friends.

Gang Unit Officer Jeff Leiniger

Our thoughts and prayers go tonight to all of Officer Faulkner's family. As a mother, I know that I have never experienced such pain and heartache in my life as I did when we lost our son. "Sweet Jesus, I pray that you will comfort this family in their time of grief. We're walking in their shoes - we're just a little farther down the road."

I am so saddened by the loss of Donan. He was a wonderful man, a loving father, and a policemen's policemen. He worked so hard to give his family the life that he wanted for them. He always had a smile and never ever became angry. I have never known anyone to work as hard as he did. He was one of our best officer's in EVERY way. He was the type of police officer that made you proud. He truly protected and served. He is so missed. I pray for his wife, his five children, his mother, his father, his sister, and his brother. Rest in peace Donan.

Peoria Police Department

Words cannot express the sorrow I feel inside. Jim was not only an excellent officer, but he was truly a nice guy. He would do anything asked of him. I am grateful to all the detectives who put in so many hours and tireless efforts to apprehend his killer. While that will not bring Jim back to us, it is somewhat of a comfort to know that the animal that took him away will be brought to justice. My deepest sympathies go out to his wife and children, as it is very evident that they loved him very much. In time, the pain of his death will subside, but his memory will live on forever. We miss you, Jim. You will always be

Dear Donan,

I never met you but I've known those like you - those with badges and blue uniforms and overgrown hearts. One in particular who, like you, fell in the line of duty. Slightly differently, but still fallen, and my heart grieves for him every single day. Though I have learned to pick up and truck on the pain remains there in the back of my mind no matter what I am doing. I sincerely hope that your family and friends can find healing in the Lord but it would be a lie to say it's not a long road to plow. I know, however, that your life brought joy to so many faces and I want to thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice. You made the same sacrifice in your hometown that a similar officer would in mine. While most teens think the cops are an annoyance, I know how insanely blessed we are to have these great people in our lives.

I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all eternity,
Recorded at this hallowed place,
Alas, my name, no more my face

"In the line of duty" I hear them say;
My family now the price will pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.

The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray I keep this thought in mind

I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee;
I ask for all here from the past,
Dear God, let my name be the last.

God bless.

It is truly sad that it takes a tragedy such as this to show us how much we all mean to each other. The community, the police department as well as the other employees of the city have been great. I now know that if I am ever taken from my family, there are people that truly care what happens to them. To all the detectives and other officers who worked on this case, words can not express the gratitude of this department and all those who love Jim. Take care of each other and God bless America.

Sgt. Ronald Scott Cook
Peoria Police Department

I am saddened to hear of the senseless death another police officer. Not only was he an officer, he was a family man and a neighbor. I used to live in Washington years ago, and used to go to Peoria with my family to shop. I will pray for you and your family in your greatest time of need.

I am deeply saddened by the death of Ofc. Faulkner. I am a native of Peoria, and have many family members residing there. When my father called me and told me that a Peoria Police Officer was killed in the line of duty, it hit me very hard. May god be with Ofc. Faulkner and his family.
