Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Matt Herzog

Happy Birthday Matthew, we all miss you, but find solace that you are with Our Lord. You are forever in our hearts.

April 30, 2007

I miss you Matt.

March 5, 2007

Dear Matt:
It's our fifth Christmas without you. I wonder when I will
ever get you out of my heart. It seems so silly since I
never knew you. I go by your house and even though
it has been sold, it will always be "your house." Someone put red flowers on the accident site so I guess that's one reason I always think of you. I go by
it so many times a day. It's heartbreaking to see so
many officers whose names will be added to the memorial in WA, D.C. Every story is a tragedy, but I find
it especially sad when Dads are robbed of the opportunity to raise their children. And your parents
and Amy were robbed of ever seeing your children. It
still makes us sad and I guess we will always have our
regrets. But we are grateful for you and the difference
you made and the lives you touched, both in those who
knew and loved you and those of us who didn't. God
bless, dear one and Merry Christmas. Without Jesus,
it wouldn't be merry.

I just wanted to say that you have two wonderful Parents. They Love you and miss you so much. We had a chance to meet with your parents in Renton this past weekend. They told us about your family and alittle about you and what had happened. I am so sorry! Your parents are so proud of you.

I don't think that there is a day that your MoM and DaD don't think of you or speak of your name. I saw that in there eyes! Please watch over them and keep them under your wings.

Thank you for giving us this opportunity of meeting with your parents.

RIP Deputy Sheriff Herzog and GOD BLESS............Please say hello to my son Joselito Barber....

Matt, I have had the honor to get to know your parents, who epitomize inspiration, grace and strength. Their courage and outreach to others who have suffered line-of-duty loss would surely make you proud. A few days after the 5th anniversary of your passing, I thank you for your service and sacrifice. Matt, you are not forgotten.

It has been 5 years since you were called away and I know those that love you miss you as much today as they did 5 years ago. You are thought of every day and will never be forgotten. You are a true hero and heroes never die. Keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol watching over the Thin Blue Line. My thoughts are with your loved ones today.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep

I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glint on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain

When you wake in the morning hush
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight
I am the soft starlight at night

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep

Forever remembered,
Forever missed .....

Here it is 5 years already. With thoughts of you, LK

The Absent One

As we gather at the table and watch each smiling face
The heart fills with emotion to see the vacant place.
We may strive to hide the longing in the midst of mirth
And fun
But we're thinking, thinking, thinking
Of the loved-the absent one.

When we gather 'round the fireside with merry laughter
And jest
How we wish the absent dear one
Was here with all the rest.
Still we join in all the frolic, but we wish the day was done
For we're thinking, thinking, thinking
Of the loved-the absent one.

Yet when the day is over and they all have gone to rest
We feel the Heavenly Father does all things for the best
So we cheer our drooping spirits with the rising of the
Sun
But we can't help thinking, thinking, thinking
Of the loved-the absent one.

The Gift
We recieved a gift today, a gift of love from someone we hold dear,
A gift of love so hard to give, we fear.
But this gift which brings us full circle, you see,
Helps us all to heal and equally.

This gift of love is the most that can be given,
The return of a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend.
We promise to keep him and to hold him in our hearts forever,
To care for him, to watch over him, and to honor him,
And when it is our time, to rest, next to him, for all eternity.

You have asked us not to thank you,
But what else can we do?
For giving us this gift that is so important to you,
You give us what we need to live just one more day through.

And so we pledge to you our heart and soul,
For receiving what we need to make us whole.

Our Love To You for this most precious gift.

Happy Birthday, Matt!

April 29, 2006

I remember the day I met you,
And the day God made you mine,
I remember the day God took you,
And will till the end of time.
We made our vows together,
Until death do we part,
But the day God took you from me,
My whole world fell apart.
Sometimes I think I'm dreaming,
I can't believe it's true,
That I can go on living when I no longer have you,
And the memories of the happy years,
When we were together;
The joys, the tears, the love, the fears,
Will stay with me forever,
And when I'm sad and lonely,
And everything goes wrong,
I seem to hear you whisper,
"Cheer up and carry on."
Each time I see your picture,
You seem to smile and say,
"Don't cry I'm only sleeping,
We'll meet again someday."
