Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Donald Kenneth Bond

"Why do bad things happen to good people?" This is an age-old question that only God can answer. Deputy Bond made an incredible impact on the community that he patrolled, but now it is time for him to walk on the streets of gold. He gave his life in an ultimate sacrifice of the love and devotion that he presented each day that he pinned on the badge. To the family: Donald Bond's life was a testimony of professionalism, courage, and respect. I will never forget my fellow brother in blue...

I JUST GOT OFF OF WORK AND AM SITTING ALL ALONE. I START TO THINK OF ALL OF THE STRESSES OF THE JOB AND HOW I WISH THEY WOULD JUST ALL JUST GO AWAY. I THEN REMEMBERED TO CHECK THE COUNT AS I HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE COMPUTER FOR A FEW DAYS. I WAS WISHING TO SEE THE NUMBER THE SAME COUNT LIKE THE LAST TIME I CHECKED, ITS NOT. I THEN READ OF MY FELLOW BROTHERS AND SISTERS THAT HAVE GIVEN SO MUCH AND ALL OF MY MINOR PROBLEMS SEEM TO GO AWAY. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO THANK ALL OF YOU FOR GIVING YOUR ALL. WE WILL REMEMBER EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. REST EASY NOW, EVERY THING IS 10-2.

DEPUTY RON VOSHELL
LUCAS COUNTY,IA SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Don was always about service to the community. He was a Gulf War Veteran and had served for many years as a volunteer firefighter. Don also served for several years as a reserve officer at Collegedale Police prior to being transfered to the patrol division with Hamilton County. He was always laughing and cutting up and was good at his job.
We will all miss you!

Master Patrolman James Hardeman
Collegedale Police Dept.

It breaks my heart each time I see a new name added to this page. Another very fine officer that has been taken from their family. I saw a bumper sticker the other day and it is so very true - "Police Officers don't just give speeding tickets - They give their lives".
I wish I knew the right words to make the pain go away. Remember the sweetness of his life and smile at those memories - those are the precious ones that will get you through each day. Much love and I am praying for you all.

My heart stops each time I hear of another fallen officer. It hurts worse having spent some time in that area, and having met some of the great officers in East Tennessee. God bless the family, friends, and department of this hero. His death was not in vain.

September 6,2001 was a sad day for all of us in the law enforcement commuity, we lost a friend, a loved one, and a brother in blue. Deputy Bond will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Patrolman Brian Lockhart
Chattanooga Police Department

Donald, your death makes absolutely no sense, and words can not express what I feel. I can say that you were a hell of a dispatcher, and an outstanding patrol officer.
When they called me the other night and told me what happened, all I could think of was how we were cutting up at the jail the other night. Laughing at that drunk you brought in and trying to decide which one of us was going to get sued first!!! god you could pick em!!! But I would never, in a million years, believe that it was the last time I was to see or talk to you. You will be missed!

My wife and I pray for you and your family.

I pray that the loving arms of God comfort the heart broken many caused by the loss of Donald. I will never know your enduring pain, the harsh beating, the knife through the heart pain that you had to face. Your hearts will never heal but it will deal with it, it will at some point
be able to accept it. Donald must of been a great guy, I am saddened by your lost, for I know, after a good friend of mine ( a brother) was killed in June, Joey Cushman, what a real loss is like and it hurts me to think of the friends and family of this extrodinary officer have to deal with so much pain, like a stab in the heart.
I will keep you in my prayers. Love to all

Anne

God must have needed a good Police Officer in Heaven, and called you home.....You will not be forgotten on earth.

Thank you for being a earth angel here.....Love and prayers to your family and other Officers left to carry on your job

Every day I try to come to the ODMP to read the reflections left for "THE HEROES" that have gone before us, and I hate when I came and see a new name of another brother/sister in blue who had made the supreme sacrifice, all we can do is pray for them and their loved ones left behind. To the family and friends of Deputy Bond, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

God Bless you

Donald was a friend of my son, Hamilton County Deputy Michael Cox. The pain that all of Donald's colleagues feel is felt by all Law enforcement. I thank God for brave men and women who stand on the front lines for the safety of the people they have sworn to protect. May the memory of this young man and his committment never be forgotten.

I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Don. I am proud to say that I was friends with someone who was as dedicated to his career as Don was. My thoughts are with Don's family, friends and our fellow Officers who are all suffering a great loss.

We miss you greatly!

Don Bond was a great friend who was always willing to help a fellow officer or anyone who needed help. I have known Don since late 1995 when he was a Hamilton County dispatcher. Don became a reserve officer with the City of Collegedale while I was employed there and we spent a lot of hours together in a patrol car. Don and I spent time together after he went to patrol for Hamilton County as well. It was Don who talked me into going to work for Hamilton County. Don, I will miss you! We will never forget you! My prayers are with your family and fellow officers. We have all lost a great friend and officer.
