Rest in peace Deputy Sheriff Kuredjian.

"Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen!"

God rest your soul my brother…I think of you often and you left a lasting impression on my son that he’ll carry with him the rest of his life!

Today I'm paying tribute to Jake who gave his life as the ultimate sacrifice. I only knew Jake six months before we lost him. He was a hard working, dedicated Deputy Sheriff who came in on overtime the day he responded to assist fellow Deputies and ATF Agents. Jake was a good dude and we haven't forgotten his legacy! God speed my brother! Continue to rest in peace!

Deputy Jake Remembered 18 Years After Fatal Shootout

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials are honoring Deputy Hagop “Jake” Kuredjian all day Saturday in remembrance of his death 18 years ago after being fatally shot in Stevenson Ranch.

On Aug. 31, 2001, Deputy Kuredjian, 40, was fatally shot after responding to a call of “shots fired” in Stevenson Ranch, where Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents were serving a search warrant.

“You never know when something is going to happen — this is a dangerous job when you sign on for it,” said Deputy Gregory Hutt of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, in a previous story. “He was going to help, he got the call and rushed to it. He wanted to help, he wasn’t one to stand back.”

Deputy Kuredjian had served as a deputy with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years, and began working at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in 1995.

“His courage and sacrifice will be forever remembered,” wrote Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, in a post Friday.

Deputy Kuredjian had a passion of motorcycle riding and was assigned to a motorcycle position six months before he was killed.

In 1989, Deputy Kuredjian was awarded the Sheriff’s Department’s Gold Meritorious Conduct Medal by former-Sheriff Sherman Block for saving the life of a woman clinging to a small tree branch atop a cliff in Malibu.

“Helping others was something that came naturally to Jake and that was what he was doing at the very moment he was so tragically taken from us all,” said Cpt. Robert Lewis, with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, who personally knew Deputy Kuredjian, in a statement. “We mourn his loss along with the many other people in our community whose lives were touched by Jake.”

In honor of Deputy Kuredjian, a memorial plaque dedicated to him was placed at the corner of Stevenson Ranch Parkway and Poe Parkway. Every year, on the anniversary of his death, deputies conduct a 24-hour watch of the site.

“It serves as a reminder to the community to remember Deputy Kuredjian and the sacrifice he made,” Miller wrote.

We drove through the area on the 28th and I spoke to my wife about your incident, which we both remembered watching in Vegas on the news. I didn’t realize how close it was to the anniversary. My wife has family near the location of the incident and she posted pictures this morning of your memorial being watched over by some of your brothers. Rest easy, Brother, you are a hero and won’t be forgotten.

Almost 18 years ago and your sacrifice has not been forgotten. One can only imagine the amount of bravery and resolve you showed on that fateful day when you simply went to go do your job and back up your partners...you serve as an example not only to me, but to law enforcement as a whole. Always keeping in mind what you lost, who lost you, and what will never happen without you serves as motivation to uphold your legacy of service.

It provides some solace that you were able to live out one of your passions as a motor officer for the station and use your seventeen years on the department to make an impact not only on those you personally interacted with, but those like me who did not have the honor of working alongside you but can read your story and be inspired. We will take it from here sir...Rest in Peace.

Hey Jake- Lee and Cam and I think of you often - always with laughter, the Beach Team was more fun because you were on it - La Salsa tacos for breakfast before we hit the beach, and the In-N-Out truck at the station during the fires -

Can't ride in the Bu without thinking of you, your smile and hugs. Miss you my LASD brother - always -but especially today.

Yesterday a Deputy from Sacramento joined your team up there - Robert French - he was taken the same way you were - welcome him... and Keep Watch over us.

Jake had a smile I'll never forget. He was dedicated to deliver the best service to the citizens he served and to his fellow deputies. As a motorcycle rider I was proud to see Jake mounted squarely on his bike. Jake was that kind of guy you will always remember. God bless you Jake.
