Reflections for Police Officer Terry McDowell

Rest in peace my Brother, for your work here is done.

God Bless the family of this fine man and his department in their time of sorrow and grief.

My heart is deeply saddened that another brother of our Law Enforcement family has lost his life due to the senseless actions of a low-life criminal. When will society wake-up and take responsibility for their own actions and understand that police officers are here to make tomorrow better for everyone? Our thoughts and prayers go out to Terry's wife and children. May God reach down His hands and touch your lives in this tragic time.

Patrolman Brock Lehman & wife Kristin
Crestline Ohio Police Dept.

Rest in Peace, You have done your duties here on earth protecting and serving. You are now in the lord’s hands… The citizens of whitehall will never forget you.

Being a POLICE OFFICER in this country is a noble profession. We are not appreciated yet we risk our lives daily. I am saddend for every POLICE OFFICER, his family, and his co-workers killed in the line of duty, I feel like I know all of you. REST IN PEACE BROTHER, YOU HAVE EARNED IT.

Rest in peace brother, you are now in a place with no violence or hatred, only love. Godspeed...

Thomas W. Mayer, President, Missouri FOP

I can not put in words how I feel about this tragic event. I pray for his family, friends, and co-workers. May God be with all of them. I work in a neighboring community and it really hits home when this happens so close. We all think it can't happen to us but this shows it can. To Officer McDowell's wife and children he IS A HERO and will always be. He is an inspiration to all of us who work the streets to push on and continue this endless battle.

To P.O McDowells Department, Family and Friends:

Its another sad day in law enforcement history,
doing his job on duty , something that was so non violent became so deadly in minutes. As i think today what type of bravery and courage one has to do this job its incredible. Most people in society today do not realize that there is more to this job then that free donut or the coffee you have at your local dairy. Its a job not only you work hard to do but you work hard to want. I leave in this note , Farwell Officer your tour of hell is over........

P.O recruit

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

So, if you've a place for me,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I’ve neither expected nor had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

My thoughts and prayers are with you, the family and friends, and co-workers of the Whitehall P.D. in your time of grieving. You will need each other to get through the services, and coming weeks. Please know that you are not alone, and that Terry will not be forgotten.

We live in a violent society, and this tragedy is a chilling reminder, "But by the grace of god, go I". Be safe.

May god bless the McDowell family and the USA.

To the men and women of the Whitehall P.D.:
Please, accept in the name of my wife Aleidy and myself our deepest condolences in the brutal murder of Off. McDowell. May God grant him eternal rest as well as His consolation to the his family, friends and coworkers.

And, let's thank God that, in the midst of this tragedy, the dirtbag who killed him will not be around to be the subject of compassion by the judges of the system and thus, set free in a few years to do it all over again.

Society will never realize the sacrifices we make. Putting our lives on the line to make this world a better place. Today your family lost a son, brother, husband and a father. Today we lost a soldier, an officer and most importantly a friend. For those that knew you, will miss you greatly. Your family is in our prayers. God Bless You!!

When I first heard of an officer from Whitehall being killed in the line of duty, my first thought was of Randy Snider, who has performed at the Cleveland, Ohio Peace Officer's Memorial the last few years. I then realized that you too had been here as well, and were part of the Color Guard at the beginning of the Tattoo. My thoughts and prayers are with your family, loved ones, and fellow officer's. May you rest in the loving peace of God.

May God be with Officer McDowell's family, he was a well respected officer who was known by several brother and sister officers all around Central Ohio. May you rest in peace as we all grieve with your family and friends. You will join our Lt.Claypool in heaven and you will both look over all of us who serve the citizens of Central Ohio. God bless all the officers with the Whitehall Division of Police.

OFFICER JIM GILBERT
COLUMBUS DIVISION OF POLICE 11 PRECINCT

This has not been a good year for law enforcement in the Central Ohio area. My heart goes out to the family, friends and coworkers of Officer McDowell. It was only a few short months ago that our beloved Lt. Claypool was taken from us, killed in the line of duty. And Whitehall officers, as so many officers from departments across the country, came to show their respects and support for us. Please let it be a comfort, however small, to know that we will be standing with you - the family, friends and coworkers of Officer McDowell, in this time of need. Never let his good deeds fade. Always keep his memory alive.

With my deepest regrets...

My heart is once again saddened over the senseless killing of another brother from "our family." May the Good LORD place HIS healing hands on Offc. Mcdowell's family, the Whitehall Police Dept., and the community in which he gave the ultimate sacrifice.
